Ah ok 10,Thanks for the response I was just repeating what I heard on TV. Thanks for not insulting me while correcting my mistake like the other poster.

Munster have come out of this Ireland game looking bad: Crowley, POM, Murray, O’Connell’s reputations have all taken a hit

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 1,567 ✭✭✭niallm77

Pom has been on the pitch plenty of times in the last 18 .months when the lineout has malfunctioned too. Think his importance to the lineout is wildly over rated now

Think there is a fair bit of overreaction here. This is the same team that was being lauded for beating SA on their own turf not 4 months ago - something NZ couldn't manage.

That being said it was a coaching failure. The gameplay was poor, the cohesion was awful and attacking structures seemed non existent. Maybe they are trying to adopt something new and it will take time to bed in but it's ominous. Maybe it was just a crap game - they happen.

I'd agree that we absolutely need to be moving on from some of the lads but it's easier said than done in some positions.

What kinda forum is this lol warnings all sides.

Nonsense. Crowley, one knock on aside, was fine. He did what was asked of him and put up contestables. Unfortunately our back three were unable to compete. We were in a position to win the match when he left the field. If Sexton had been left out in the cold after an unremarkable game, as some here are suggesting Crowley be, then he would never have made it past twenty caps.

POM and Murray were on the pitch for 10 minutes. If their lack of impact over that time is sufficient to damage their reputation as you are suggesting then I don't know how our second rows, starting hooker or centres will ever recover considering they were equally lacking despite being on the pitch for a hell of a lot longer.

O'Connell's position should definitely be scrutinised. The lineout has been an issue for far too long. Having said that none of the coaching staff covered themselves in glory last night.

I really can't imagine any other sport where fist pumping at a big moment is considered controversial.

The crowd was flat at the Aviva as it often is lately and I think Lowe was trying to generate a bit of energy for the final push. There was nothing disrespectful about it.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 2,166 ✭✭✭uptherebels

He was more worried about celebrating a big kick with the crowd than concentrating on the game. Especially considering his poor performance up to that point.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 1,567 ✭✭✭niallm77

Pom and Murray only got on for 10 minutes but that's the problem.. our bench is fine if we are ahead. But if we aren't....

Healy, Henderson, POM, Murray, Aki will probably not make the 2027 RWC.

We looked a little like we did in 2019 v England in the 6n. It looks like there needs to be a big shift in focus. We are too slow to phase new guys in and older guys out.

Tbh it was more like Ireland versus England in the warm up, granted nowhere near as bad, we look like we were totally unprepared for a test match.

Same old mistakes being allowed to happen again & again. The lineout is a joke in truth yet nothing has been done about it.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 597 ✭✭✭Piskin

Vastly overrated player in fairness. As for the lineout it has been a shambles for quite a while yet Paul o Connell is still in charge of it.

When Ireland want is a starting 15 and bench where the average age is roughly 28 years old.

The starting XV was 28.8 years old last night so I don't think the issues in regards to age lie there, the issue is the average age of the bench was 31.25…that's just too old, it needs to be around 28 aswell.

If we have a bench come 6N time of 16. Kelleher 17. O'Toole 18. Bealham 19. Baird 20. Conan 21. Casey 22. Frawley 23. Osborne the average age comes down to 28.1…and even that can be made younger with the likes of Prendergast (Both Cian and Sam) knocking around.

How would you know, this is the first time you've commented on the rugby forum since March 17th…ironically the week Ireland lost to England. Another GAAhead is trying to pretend they have a clue about rugby.

But sure we didn't come up with the rankings system?

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 5,367 ✭✭✭Paul Smeenus

The issue wasn't the age of our starting 15, it was the quality of their performance.

We absolutely need to move on from Henderson, Healy, POM etc but that's a sidebar. The "meh" performances of Ryan, Beirne, Hansen, Ali, Crowley, Porter et al should be the concern. That was a poor enough AB performance - that we needed something from the bench to potentially win should merit the starting 15 criticism.

Mod: Tone down the GAA head type stuff. Everyone is welcome to post here, regardless of when they last posted here.

Exactly, like I said in one of my posters the average age of our XV is 28.8 which is exactly where you want you're side to be, around 28 years granted it is towards the higher end but perfectly acceptable .

Our lineout issues are a coaching concern. It doesn't seem to matter what combo of players we have on the pitch. We keep struggling. Ryan got a lot of criticism for a malfunctioning lineout, but when he left the tournament injured our set piece got worse if anything.

Henderson, Beirne and POM started the QF. All are experienced lineout callers, yet New Zealand took us apart anyway.

It is the rankings system that they are talking about, there is also an arrogance factor that we cannot see but others do see,

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 597 ✭✭✭Piskin

Getting personal again I see…LOL. I am talking about rugby here

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 3,862 ✭✭✭John arse

More arrogant than the English?, Don't think so.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 597 ✭✭✭Piskin

Agreed, serious shake up is needed. Need to draft in youth ASAP. Same old mistakes from the same old players again & again.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 597 ✭✭✭Piskin

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 13,007 ✭✭✭✭aloooof

What specific mistakes from what specific players?

If anything, the two 10's have shipped the most criticism, and they are both comparatively new to Test rugby at 10.For the other players, I'd suggest the mistakes were pretty atypical tbh (lineout aside which has been a consistent issue to be fair).

I think we need to see some change. But I don't think it needs to be the root and branch variety.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 106 ✭✭lonester99

change definitely needed, few changes could solve a lot of problems. Theres no way the number one team in the world (ranked) can rock up with a bench of Henderson, Herring, O'toole etc and claim to be a top 3 team, favouring journeymen with zero upside over younger options is what killed the Joe Schmidt era.

Ireland national sides have a terrible habit of hanging onto players who are well passed their cell by date and waiting for an injury or the last possible moment to introduce talent. Osbourne only got in because of an injury and look how well hes gone.

Deadwood needs to be let go, Izuchukwu, Gmccarthy, Boyle, Prendergast etc need to get serious minutes in the coming games and not 5 mins off the bench when the match is already decided

Gus McCarthy has 318 minutes of professional rugby. It's great he's in the squad and he'll get caps but I'm not sure there is a coach in world rugby that would have put him on the bench against NZ over Herring. Herring himself is only there because of injury to Sheehan who came through to become the starting 2 very quickly.

As for TOT, who the hell else was there?

I don't disagree with any of that. Murray's selection makes sense when you consider that we were obviously trying to target them in the air but none of those players, with the possible exception of Aki, should be in future squads and I think it was a mistake including them in this one too.
