On a completely different note, does Jenna Ortega now live in Dublin? I work in Ballsbridge and have seen her once or twice in recent weeks. She was at the match tonight.

Frawley had an absolute horror show. So much for all the hype.

We've bigger problems than Lowe trying to rise the crowd abit. That's what Lowe does. Tried it a couple of times in the game. No one complained when we won games .

Definitely half a dozen lads in the 23 tonight who have been allowed to outstay their usefulness. Test rugby is brutal and has no place for sentiment, apart from the Irish national team for some reason. It's been a theme for a decade now, lads retaining places based on former glories.

I said it to the lads I was with in the pub at the time when the kick found touch, Lowe's 50/22 is indicative of the issues the team has. Being delighted with a quality moment of play but then failing back it up and turn it into points meaning, ultimately, there was nothing to be delighted about. We seem to get carried away with lesser moments rather than focusing on the things which actually win games. The "little victories" mentality seems to have infected the British teams and Ireland, it needs to be dropped.

I still think there is a lot to be positive about in Irish rugby, there are lots of very talented players there. We just need to find that balance between moving on from once great players and bringing through the next wave. We seem to hang onto lads past their usefulness at international level. While we continue to do so, we won't progress beyond where we have been for the last decade.

Really tough night for Ireland tonight, too many handling errors and missed tackles. 13 penalties conceded.

Bench gave no impact or not on long enough to make an impact. Frawley in particular had a night he'll want to forget. We backed the older players tonight to deliver a win and we lost, lost badly. We really need to start freshening things up.

Posters making a lot of noise about our lineouts, we were beaten in open play tonight, we had over 20 missed tackles, 21 handling errors and conceded 13 penalties, we scored 10 of our 13 points when NZ were down to 14 men. The lineout was not the reason we lost tonight.

Filming the next season of wednesday here I think.

NZ were as poor tonight as they were last week. Against a good defence they really don’t have much of a game, even with almost 70% possession they relied on our mistakes to survive. Ireland were brutal other than defence which was very good, if we’d been able to turn that into turnover attack we’d have won handily, but poor handling killed almost every possession we had. Our lineout travails are unforgivable at this stage. Did we compete once against theirs tonight? I don’t think so. Not competing at all is absolutely irresponsible as it allows them to confidently go to the back every time in our half.

Hopefully that’s our quadrennial sh*t game out of the way tho I was reminded of our toothless performance against England in the 6 nations.
there’s a big leadership chasm here, even though the team is a bit if a dads army. Notable that in the huddle before love’s 50/22 lineout POM was doing all the talking. That bodes poorly for us as several of these older players won’t be around in a year. They’ll have a lot to prove next week.

NZ were good enough to win, and that is all that's required. They managed their game, we didn't manage ours.

My 23 didn't include Aki, Herring, PO'M or Henderson so not surprised at their performances.

Our kicking from hand didn't produce gains and yet we persisted with it, in lieu of kicking for territory. Lineout (with 3 locks + Doris in it) was a shambles both offensively & defensively (maybe PO'M could replace PO'C).

The major concern is discipline. Conceding 13 pens (5 by NZ) rarely wins matches, particularly when you either kick away or drop possession.

Furlong & O'Toole now doubtful for next Friday. Who benches behind Bealham ?.

Getting Felix Jones involved for the next World Cup is vital.

Doris is too nice to be captain. Cian prendergast is the best young captain in the country. Kendellen is also good but further away from Ireland selection.

Frawley is not a 10 he lost confidence so quickly I felt bad for him. You would change is personality he's too nice. Maybe Cullen was correct 💯 after all

When it's a last ditch tackle that's stopping a team like the All Blacks from scoring then you're really going to find it hard to win as they'll eventually break you down and score.

I watched the match in a pub with a group of friends, none of us saw Ireland winning that match until we went ahead during the YC period but as soon as the All Blacks are restored to their full 15 they again look like they'll win that game.

Its been clear for years why the french ran O'Connell. Lineout has been broken for 2 years and is the reason pom can't be let move on

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 1,053 ✭✭✭johnh6767

No attack, No out half, No discipline

JGP VDF & Lowe gave moments to reclaim control

Age a big issue and poor selection adding to the woes . If above 30 different selection should apply as each game is compromising the next generation. Bench was a disgrace in selection terms bringing on the old guys when you have the next generation champing at the bit

both out halves need time and trust to allow them to gain confidence

His 3rd start and he is forced to do 80 minutes against the all blacks. He's been a sub since 2016. Says it all about development and game time. Flogging furlong against Italy while bealham watches on

Argentina and Australia will be rubbing their hands together now.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 20,370 ✭✭✭✭Clegg

I think we'll ultimately be fine. This game damages the reputations of some players and maybe puts doubts on the future of some of the older lads. But it'll work itself out.

What I don't understand is why they didn't play Portugal when they were over there. Portugal nearly beat them pre world cup behind closed doors and would gladly play them again on short notice

She'll get more attention along with gladiator Paul Mescall

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 134 ✭✭jim Dempsey

Do worry I remember in the world cup warm ups the media telling us he will sort it out. No one is as detailed as him when it comes to lineouts. Poc is keeping pom in a job because without pom you may as well have Michael d Higgins throwing into that lineout.

Irelands attack is give it to aki and run it up the guts. Without aki that attack is going backwards

Yes there was rustiness and unforced errors that may not have occurred 2 weeks from now, but the fact is we were totally schooled at the breakdown tonight, same in the QF...worrying

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 18,477 ✭✭✭✭bilston

Ireland will hammer Australia. Argentina will be a tougher game, I still think we'll beat them, but it isn't a gimme. Australia are really poor. If we lose to them at home we have serious problems.

    Dear Andy,

To save you reading 200+ posts this evenin,(a fair few from posters who miraculously appear when we loose & quickly disappear again) I will summarise.

    You need to

    Sack POC & A Goodman

Cut the majority of players that are over 30

Play Frawley at 12 or 15 coz Leo was right

Fast track Sam straight into 10, doesn't matter he's not the 1st choice for club yet

Give up the Lions gig coz Simon E can't manage this team for 6 nations.

Tell Lowe to stop trying to motivate fellow players or the crowd.

    Get a new captain

That should cover it.....Will review again post Argentina game

Safe to say O’Connell and Goodman’s careers/reputations are over after that loss tonight, we looked terribly coached

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 9,332 ✭✭✭lawrencesummers

we were beaten by a team playing their “next best” at 10

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 138 ✭✭Leslie Purkiss

thornley reserves most of his criticism for the crowd. Such a clown.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 9,332 ✭✭✭lawrencesummers

Ben Earl was roundly and rightly ridiculed for it before.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2, Paid Member Posts: 27,568 ✭✭✭✭phog

Some stats, 11 turnovers, 5 rucks lost, we seemed to lose the breakdown against the ABs, some of it could be put on the reffing of the game but the team needed to adapt too, we seemed incapable of it.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 9,332 ✭✭✭lawrencesummers

Im not so sure. One of them is in England and the other Italy, and they arent the best of friends, hard to see them rubbing anything together really.

We probably need to accept that this team has peaked.

The level has dipped since sextons departure, and there are a few more players that need to go which will have an impact.

This side will probably get worse before it gets better as players like frawley and crowley ain the necessary experience, and players come into the front row.

We can still beat anyone on our day, but we are clearly a side thats heading for a slight decline
