For some reason POM has been the only player we had in the last ten years had any smarts around the lineout. He's way past it, but he's the only one that can make it work. What is wrong with the rest of them.

explain also why we picked a bunch of unfit chaps just back from injuries who were miles off the test match pace - just asking

It might be a wake up call but we wont know until the 6N squad is announced. Lets not forget match sharpness is vital as well, this is the AB’s third week on the bounce and our first game, that counts for a lot.

that said. Murray, hendo, healy, POM need to go. Bundee not far behind them. Players like baird, Izuchuwu, ben murphy, cian prendergast need game time in these games.

Its the same thing every RWC cycle for Ireland. We are looking for the perfect 15, while every other country is trying to develop a squad that can win a RWC.

Hopefully they wake up and cut the dead weight. Bring down the average age, learn a few lessons for the younger lads and put the foundation in place to build for a championship squad

The issue with analysing the game is it was such a collective sh!t show 1-23 from start to finish, give or take 2 or 3 but even they wouldnt get more than a 7/10, that it's hard to point to one thing and say that's why we lost.

What'll be important is how the team respond to this, they simply have to go out and make a statement over the next 3 games. Fail to do that and I'm going to start worrying.

When have we ever been on the top 4 though? Weve never reached a semi. It would be nothing new to get bet in a qf again.

Letting Mike Catt go was a dreadful error. We went from the slickest attack in World Rugby to absolute muck.

When your lineout doesn't work, and it's an integral part of.your game then your in trouble.

When your 10 is average and you have several players playing for the first time in weeks, if not months, then you lose.

Sexton was a once in a generation player. Even in his decline he was significantly better than the next best 10.

None of the current 10's are likely to dominate/own the shirt the way Sexton could.

POM, Sexton and Murray are natural born leaders. Only 1 was replaced, Murray with JGP. None of the forwards have stepped up to take the mantle off POM, maybe arguably Beirne and JvDF. We need to figure out how to win without a generational talent and leader at 10 too. Between ROG and Sexton we were blessed for the best part of 20 years in that regard

Why arent we seeing on the world stage then? The world cup? Are you one of them who think test wins are the be all and end all? I

True but the scrum was poor, the breakdown a sh!t show, our attack non existent due to consistent drop balls…its honestly a game with no positives…the only positive I could muster up is that NZL were bang average, otherwise this could have been a +20 pointer.

I understand the not playing in week but I dont think its enough of an excuse, players like Frawley for instance have had plenty of minutes yet were a complete shambles.

It doesnt matter who you have as attack coach if the players are dropping the ball every 2 seconds.

    No you havent.

Rankings are bullshit when you constantly fail at world cups. We are a team thats was decent for a while and now are going back to the doldrums.

#team of us is in decline.

A very poor performance from Ireland, notably in the line-outs and the penalties conceded. Some of the players looked like they’d never been in a lineout before which is inexcusable for professional players.

You said "how are we top 4" I've just shown you clear evidence, if you dont like it because it doesnt suit you're argument that's fine, I dont really care.

Ireland were never number 1 in the world. No harm to bring them back down to reality and let them realise they are bang average.

Your hiding behind rankings. Which are flawed considering we dont perform at the only competition that truly matters for a team who really believe they are a top 1 or 2 or 3 or 4 team.

Lots of 6/10 performances tonight which won't cut it against NewZealand, even in their current form.

JGP was outstanding, VDF and Beirne were tireless. Bealham out on his feet when he came back on (and was definitely angling in for that penalty before going forward, as much as we may not want to admit). Lacking outstanding moments of class or incision. Doris was grand, Ryan was grand, lots of just "grand" performances but nobody really taking the game by the scruff of the neck bar JGP.

Good to have Lowe and Hansen back as a wing duo - both had good moments. Crowley has a very very average game. Frawley had a stinker but I'd be hypocritical to throw him under the bus - he deserves another shot and we know from the South Africa game that he does have bottle. Today was just a bit of a blip for him. I would leave Prendergast until the Fiji game.

Bench not ideal either (not helped by the O'Toole situation). Was surprised to see POM only coming in with ten minutes to go, hard to make an impact with that little time.

Overall, discipline and errors killed us. We lacked any real attacking platform (not helped by a misfiring lineout) for a lot of the game and the penalties really killed us especially in the second half.

TH cover will be an interesting predicament if O'Toole and Furlong are both out. Clarkson going to get a look in?

I'm not sure I like the discussion about Ireland being rusty or under cooked, in this thread or from the Virgin panel. We haven't had a problem pitching up for the first game in prior Autumn internationals. We were just bad.

We definitely struggled in the conditions, as did New Zealand. But for the most part they cut out those errors in the second half while we kept knocking on.

Attacking shape and handling were the big problems, but mostly I'm worried by how we just couldn't get hold of the ball. New Zealand monopolised possession and we were unable to win the ball back through a poach or a maul choke.

For all those blaming the outhalf for losing the game, the possession stat of 33% to Ireland is the most telling.

Ireland's front 5 were not up to it tonight as against England in the 6N this year.

The offensive lineout will always be an issue when the hooker is inconsistent with his throwing (the opposition know this so will apply pressure). Closing the gap needs to be dealt with on the field by the captain and or pack leader, the coach sitting in the box can do very nothing once as the referee has blown the whistle to start.

The defensive lineout was built around POM's natural athletic ability and his reading og the opposition setup. I am sure he did his homework and studied the opposition before matches as well.

What do you think the rankings are based on Einstein? The only competition in you're mind because it suits you're argument best you mean?

The lack of depth is frightening...

Im still in shock at how bad that Irish bench was.....to a man- they made the team worse once they were introduced....
