Do you think there are a lot of champagne socialists in the.Dublin West constituency?

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 12,494 ✭✭✭✭suvigirl

Those are internationally agreed positions. If you put aside your prejudice just for a minute and actually think about people who are fleeing persecution, conflict etc there are very good reasons as to why they may not have documents and pay human traffickers, and enter countries illegally. it is very obvious why that could be the case.

Now,.Obviously some will look to take advantage of that, we need to deal with.claims quickly, and those.that don't make it, should be sent home, unless there are.serious.humanitarian reasons not to.

There is no way we will ever just use blanket refusal on asylum seekers. Claiming asylum can be for many reasons and all have to be dealt with on an individual basis.

People coming from the UK are not fleeing persecution.

The people living in Calais live in France, where millions of people go on holidays.

By definition, as they cross the Channel, they are not fleeing persecution.

You are using the Sinead Gibney SocDem explanation, which we all know is wrong.

The AS deliberately discard their travel documents, not forget or lose them.

Yes, indeed, we should deal with claims quickly. I suggest hours/days, not months, and at the port of entry.

No wonder people voted for Trump.

If you can illegally enter a country, then by uttering three words, your illegal entry is ignored, that is bonkers.

Suggestion: set up sites outside of Ireland as the only place where asylum applications can be made.

That's the law. Dunno what that has to do with Trump🤔🤔

What happened all those new arrivals who camped on the canal? Have they just disappeared and been accommodated elsewhere? Where are putting new arrivals now?

The system here is broken, McEntee herself admitted she doesn't know if people she signed deportation orders for have actually left the country.

So in other words we are given numbers for orders signed but never get figures for those who have left.

And just to add the number of deportations in this country is ridiculously low.

Carol Nolan, I think it was, asked for a system to be set up to register who leaves during the week and was shot down.

I don't disagree. The system needs major changes. Noone likes to see people taking the p1ss. But there still needs to be a system of assessing claims. There are genuine people out there.

TD Holly Cairns again being on record as one of the chief cheerleaders of refugees, immigration / immigrants…non stop shes at it. Practically inviting them.

But then… aggressively blaming the government and everyone else for the housing crisis and young Irish people not being able to get on the property ladder.

I’m not from Cork but the rumours and opinion online strongly suggest she’ll be struggling in the upcoming general election. Let’s hope she’s not getting a seat next time around…

    Cairns :

“ Government leaves legacy of half a million adults living in childhood bedrooms ”

    Yet…

” Ireland isn’t full, it’s just not working properly “

Ermmm. Or perhaps Holly there might just be an issue of supply vs demand…driving up housing prices….which will worsen if that demand keeps, spiraling…as you as a person are cheerleading for… more immigration and refugee supports…. There isn’t a black pit of money or room to build…or services to facilitate people.

State awards tender for charter flights to deport failed asylum seekers

Lets escape the headline for a minute, we all know this will most likely will be like the UK Rwanda deal in a sense none of these illegals will be getting on an airplane because this government isn't capable of following through on this.

We should continue to ask them nicely to leave instead lol

Who are the government kidding that anything will change here.

I also dread to think of the money involved in this, if Ireland actually had deterrents this wouldn't be a problem

A spokesperson for Ms McEntee said these charter flights would be used for “removing individuals from Ireland who no longer have permission to remain in the State”.

“Minister McEntee has significantly increased investment in the International Protection Office, resulting in a major increase in the number of decisions issued and a greater number of deportation orders,” the spokesperson said.

“Therefore, it is essential that charter flights be available for An Garda Síochána to enforce deportation orders when required.”

One of the most incompetent ministers we've ever had and now is deputy leader of Fine Gael, it tells you alot about accountability in our politics. This woman has made an absolute shambles of justice department and she expects us to believe any of this is happening, HA!!!

Sinn Féin has refused to comment after Claire Kerrane, the party's spokesperson on integration, deleted a Facebook comment where she suggested that deportation should be among the penalties considered when an immigrant has committed a crime.

One of the most sensible policies from SF on immigration and it's already in the gutter lol. This party just cannot read the room, can they?

Pity she doesnt have the conviction to stand by it and leave it up on twitter, very disappointing.

I hate giving these guys my 3rd vote but I just cannot bare another FF/FG love in.

O'Gorman constitutency includes Castleknock which is well off

However there's also Blanchardstown and Mulhuddard.

I expect him to be out very soon.

Helen mcentee I have less confidence but hopeful even she can be booted out. 👢 Too

While Alejandro Mayorkas is still Secretary of Homeland Security of the United States and keeping American borders open to the rest of the world, we ought to be sending some of the refugees and asylum seekers in Ireland to the United States.

What's your rational for giving SF a vote? Strategic to keep votes away from the other 2 or just no other options in your area.

I think O’Gorman could be in trouble later this month. He’s not popular in the more working class parts of the constituency. It’s surprising the amount of people who are acutely aware of his ‘own door’ accommodation policy. My barber and I have discussed him several times. I can’t repeat his views on O’Gorman without being permanently forum banned.

Unfortunately, McEntee is safe, much as I would like to see that blight retreat into obscurity. She represents the Slane area in Meath. Her family name, the history with her father, and just general parish pump politics, will see her re-elected. She seems to have virtually nothing to do with the southern part of the county with growing towns like Ratoath, Dunshaughlin, and Ashbourne. Her seat would be in a lot more jeopardy if she was reliant on votes from that locale.

No pleasing some people. everyone wants deportations, charter planes to do it!

So, they do. But people don't like that either.

McEntee is as safe as it comes. Royalty in Slane / Nobber. Political Dynasties in this country rarely get a kicking. O’Gorman will go but in a five seater who knows

On a related note, I was out for a run earlier and saw a guy putting up posters for Ruth Coppinger. What did people in Dublin 15 do to deserve such fruitcakes representing them?

The UKs Rwanda Policy was a big success...... When ya realise they unofficialy substituted Rwanda for the Republic of Ireland. We are the last stop in Europe for the human traffickers. The question now becomes where do they go and what do they while the system and all aspects of state services collapse, for everyone living in this state.

Speaking of "obligations", the department has come under some serious pressure from Interpol lately.

A lot of checkpoints being set up around our kneck of the woods and they are not checking tax insurance etc

Expect to hear a lot of noise from the NGO industry soon about Garda "profiling"

I thought the Guards were accused of racial profiling a while back when checking people coming in from the North?

Well as Mary Lou points out, it's actual the law to send them packing if they commit serious crimes

Sinn Fein have not changed from their original position that our current immigration rules and laws should be adhered to and administered by the current Govt (the govt have just ignored these)

If Pakistan can't come to some arrangement with regards taking their own citizens back then countries should play hard ball and tell them, in that case no visas will be issued for Pakistani citizens to enter their countries, not to study, not even a tourist visa. Its not like pressure can't be applied in this or some other manner.

Just shrugging shoulders and impotently doing nothing should never be an option.
