New to smart trainers, help needed deciding on one..

Hi All, I've never had an indoor trainer and usually get out cycling most weekends throughout the winter regardless of the weather. But thinking of getting a smart trainer soon keep the cycling going mid week also. Usually these winter months it's only the weekends I'd be cycling with running taking up the weekday evenings. But due to a knee issue the running is not an option this winter.

Appreciate any recomemndation…….Also, never used any of the zwift type apps for training so any advice on the best ones for pairing to a trainer appreciated.

From a quick look online earlier the one that seems to get a lot of recommendations is the Wahoo Kickr Core which looks to be about €500ish. On some sites I see this paired with a zwift cog/click bit of kit which any feedback from here is also welcome, as I'll be using any trainer i get up in the attic so will also be looking to minimise any noise including from gear changing if possible.

I'm happy to pay €5to600 for a trainer, any info/feedback on different trainers and apps for paring them to is appreciated.

Apologies if there are already threads on this, I took a look back over a few pages and did not see anything.

    Thanks a lot.

You won't go wrong with a Wahoo Kickr Core. You can get it with or without the Zwift cog (or you use a normal cassette).

The Zwift cog has some advantages (virtual shifting and doesn't matter what bike you use on the trainer). The main disadvantage though is that you risk being locked into Zwift. It's all I've ever used but many others on here have been trying new apps (due to both functionality and cost - Zwift now costs 19.99 a month)

I'd wait a week or so for possible Black Friday deals - check the Bargain Alerts thread here

Would go with the kicker or elite suito have both in our house and are great pieces of kit.

If you're not looking to spend a lot on a sub for a zwift like app you could try my whoosh which is free

Of those available, probably the Kicker Core if I was buying now. If I was in no rush, Jetblack Victory!

I have a Kickr Core and it is mint. I got it second hand not too loud either.

Wahoo Kickr Core & Rouvy rather than Zwift

Thanks for the replies folks. I appreciate all the above feedback. Still not made up my mind but reckon I'm leaning towards the Kickr Core. Will check out Rouvy Vs Zwift also..
