Avoid This Contractor

A bit if advice for anybody undertaking roofing work in the Cork city or country area avoid Cork County Roofing and Cork City Roofing. The two companies are run by the same person. They will promise you initially that the work will be done via bank transfer, you will receive an invoice and a written 20 year warranty. The owner talks a very good show and is somewhat convincing. Don't be fooled by him. Once the work commences everything that's promised goes out the window. There's an instant demand for cash for all works and the price starts to increase from the original quote. Also then there's a daily demand for cash at the end of works each day and threats to walk away if not paid up. They end up leaving without completing the works and nearly all their work has to be redone.

I've put this up for people to avoid this contractor in the future.

Good tip - put the mobile number into Google and see how many different "roofing" or "driveway" companies it shows up in.

I tried putting in the number but nothing else came up. I don't know if anyone looks on this site before hiring anyone. But this company shouldn't be allowed advertise. We've lodged complaints with Google, Facebook andConsumer Affairs. The amount of elderly and innocent people caught by this company and still more getting caught is wrong.

I don't want to name the owner or put up his address as we'll get done for defamation. But the owner probably has more businesses like JVince stated. Their just professional con artists

There are plenty of these dodgy companies going around. I presume the Gardai are aware of it?

Yes the Gardai are aware of it. We've been told that this company are known to the Gardai for similar circumstances as ours. We've contacted everywhere we can think of to complain about them. Hopefully some of them will act and remove their advertisements to prevent other people from getting scammed especially elderly and vulnerable people.

Unfortunately, I don't think the Garda will do anything. I know many people who have reported dodgy builders like this and nothing happens.

They advised to go to a solicitor. The solicitor said it would cost too much to go to court against them and you wouldn't probably get your money back. The solicitor advised to go to the Small Claims Court which we have and are waiting for a response.

There absolute scum. My elderly mum was scammed by one of these bogus companies previously.

It is a joke. They said it's a civil matter and to speak to a solicitor. We done that and the solicitor said we would most likely win the case but at what cost to us financially and no guarantee that the court could get our money back. He advised try a claim via the Small Claims Court. We are in the process of that. The solicitor also advised to go back and speak to the guards and come back to the solicitor after. We went back to the Gardai who are trying to get in contact with the owner of this company in relation to this and other cases like it but aren't able to get in contact with him. We never went back to the solicitor as it's more money wasted. It's like a merry go round with nothing positive at the end. In the case of your mum I'd advise try taking a case via the Small Claims Court and lodge a complaint with the CCPC.

The way they operate is like extortion. They intimidate vulnerable people looking for payment.

That's exactly right. Threaten then to walk off unless their demands are met.
