Nope, he simply stated that 'there's going to be doors open' not whether they were used. It simply means that they'll be given an opportunity to be heard, but as he said if they're crap they'e gone. Why have they succeeded when the scions of other artists have not? Could it actually be hard work and some talent? You remain singularly unable to give an instance of his father helping out as the behaviour of the band consistently displays the rigmarole of those doing it for themselves. As Jeff Buckley, Zak Starkey, Nancy Sinatra and Damian Marley did. They deserve your bile also? You can't get very far with a name if there's nothing behind it.

And are the open doors those of Monroes & the Roisín in Galway, Bar Square in Ballina or the many such venues around the country where they plied their trade for seven years before being signed?

And where are the dozen mansions owned by Bono? Please disclose. And why would his son go to any of them rather than return to his parent's Dalkey house? And you think he spends his life on private jets. Do you realise how bitter and envious that makes you sound? As well as being inaccurate it's a trait I don't like from many on this island. Every one of our actors, musicians, public figures seems to get it in the neck. Success breeds envy and it's often factually erroneous and directionless. As with your input here.

Sorry man, but when someone bitches about a successful Irish act and throws in several lies (no Noel Gallagher Tour, U2 on the Island label NOT Polydor, no publicity machine used, etc) then I cannot resist responding. #SayNoToBegrudgery 😀

Well good luck to them .They are a good band and have built up a following already and not all are impressionable sorts who don't know their Kneecap from their Elbow .

Ticket bought for Zeal & Ardor anyway, 21st March. Should be a cracking show!

Don't be so naive. Do you genuinely believe that those sort of family connections play no part in generating hype and media attention? It was mentioned on the radio every time they played the single a few years back. That at no time was a phone call made to an influential friend or two to take a look and see what they think? That some low level media exec who had to choose between 2 bands to feature didn't think we'll I don't want to piss that guy off?

It's nothing to do with begrudgery. Parents will use everything in their power to help their kids in life - I'd do it in a heartbeat if I was in a position to do so but thankfully none of mine want a life of soul sapping IT drudgery. Now the guys eventually have to stand on their own feet and live or die by the audience reaction and good luck to them they seem to be doing really well - but don't try to claim they didn't start with a massive advantage over lots of others who also put in the hours but didn't get the breaks.

Back to this! I thought it was done. Naive of you I think to believe that the scion of a rockstar relies on his Dad to have two number one albums and sell 13,000 tickets at the largest venue in the country. The Dad's name creates more derision than respect and making a success despite that has to be admired I think. Hence it'd have worked for all the sons of these rock giants. Why haven't Jakob Dylan, Sean Lennon, Dhani Harrison, Adam Cohen and the likes made it? Some deservedly did (eg Damien Marley, Justin Townes Earle) and I don't deny them their success nor talent by virtue of a successful Dad. Could be something in the genes too?

It ain't the film industry where you can give your kid a part n your next movie irrespective of talent. Musicians have to sell albums and tickets.

And which specific single are you referring to getting airplay? A vague reference as they've had more than a dozen. Certainly not their first which they self-released a full six years after starting in 2012. Didn't get played on air. What year are you talking about, and pre or post the Polydor signing?

They gigged around the country for years before getting a contract and with it the Polydor hype machine. Did they need the Dad to get a support gig at the Roisín Dubh? Was a Derry band like Touts taking them on tour to do the Dad a favour? Did the Dad book them into the small room over a Ballina pub? Nope, those are venues in small urban and rural areas that are happy to welcome anyone as bands willing to put in the shift discover. Areas that are starved of music got Inhaler, and other artists willing to tour regularly and to less accessible locations.

And if the Dad had pulled strings don't you think you'd have heard details about that by now? There are enough people who'd be only too happy with the schadenfreude of gloating on the mis-steps of youngsters. I believe this ad hominem stuff says more about the doubters than the lads themselves.

As @scruff monkey said it's probably more of a disadvantage than advantage to have this Dad. Whatever they do gets disparaged, justifiably or not. More of a burden than help. They toured relentlessly, like Otherkin, Fontaines, Wood Burning Savages, Murder Capital, Fangclub and many others of that era did. The same faces regularly appearing in Galway for starters. Those acts all built up a reputation but most didn't sell enough tickets to keep going. Loads of lies told about these guys, and Elijah has to defend himself in every last interview. Gotta be frustrating as the naysayers won't change their viewpoint irrespective of the facts. Dumb stuff re Bono having a dozen houses, Inhaler flying on private jets, being taken on tour with Noel Gallagher, being on the same label as his Dad, etc, etc.

I've got nothing more to say on this you'll be glad to hear. I'm not a fan of the band. The musicianship and big sound is fine but I don't hear any decent tunes. I don't care who slags them off for their material but I fell like the bile towards them/him is too personal and another way to get at the Dad. Begrudgery is alive and kicking in Éire 2024.

Can we just move on from the Inhaler discussion - at least until an Inhaler show is announced?

2025 gigs: Selofan, Alison Moyet, Wardruna, Gavin Friday, Orla Gartland, The Courettes, Nine Inch Nails, Rhiannon Giddens, New Purple Celebration, Nova Twins

I always love the "make a stupid point but then say you're done" mode of discussion. You probably think David Beckham's kid played for the Real Madrid academy due to his sweet left foot or that a politicians daughter gets elected purely on their civic ability?

Nobody is denying the kids talent or work ethic, but do you honestly think that being Bono's kid makes it harder to break into the music industry then being the son of Mick the plasterer and Mary the nurse. Seriously he has no advantages over others who are working just as hard?

And I said the single as it was the first I heard a few years back - not really my thing but perfect radio single and I can't remember the name. Wish them nothing but the best. But I'll happily defer to your encyclopedic knowledge of the band you're not a fan off.

I see both sides of the argument but doesn't your "Beckam's kid at Real Madrid academy" point prove what @Seathrun66 is saying.

Being the child of a famous parent in that industry will open doors, but without any talent, effort and drive no amount of opened doors will sell out venues or get you into the first team.

Jesus can this please be moved into it's own thread or can it be taken to PMs.

It's insufferable for the rest of us at this point.

They clearly do as several posters have made varied points here. More accurate to state that you don't care rather then deign to speak for all.

Knowledge of Inhaler - easily researched. As with anything. You refer to a single but have no idea when or what it is. Pre or post-Polydor signing is significant in terms of having record pluggers and publicists.

Advantages and disadvantages to having a famous parent. In this instance they deliberately didn't take advantage and did everything in their grasp to make it themselves. I admire their effort.

And what kid of Beckham's played in the Real Madrid academy? None so thus more false info thrown in to belittle a bunch of young Irish musicians doing pretty well internationally. Romeo Beckham played for Brentford reserves but that poor grasp of facts matches your prior points in throwing in random thoughts.

Luckily Elijah can refer to his Dad for advice on dealing with bile and begrudgery. And nepotism definitely works in business and politics, but not in music or sport. You just can't get away with it.

And @Exclamation Marc, sorry for the crap. I stopped posting two days ago but it was resurrected by a late arrival poster this morning. I don't want to continue but if someone is throwing in false info I'll counter it. No offence taken if you mute, hide or block me but I'd also like an end to this as people ain't changing their positions.

I blame Inhaler for all of this /s

When will their crimes on humanity end?

Bloody hell. It's right there in there in the post. He admits he got opportunitys because of his Dad

Now, let's be done with it

Wonder what announcements will get in the next few weeks to capitalise on the Christmas market

The bucket list is getting pretty bare which is not a bad thing as such. Hopefully get an Oasis ticket out of somewhere

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 10,160 ✭✭✭✭Seathrun66

Nope, he states that doors could be opened but if no talent you’ll get nowhere. As per the sons of Dylan, Cohen, Harrison, etc. Why not give the guy some kudos for his/their success?

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 10,160 ✭✭✭✭Seathrun66

And to finally get away from bloody Inhaler what are the chances of The Cure doing Malahide, or even Marley? Though maybe 40k tickets a push. The new album has led to heavy hype and they’re on the road in 2025 (no festivals til the year after) so are we talking Sumner outdoor shows or Autumn arenas?

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 129 ✭✭Count Hairyfoot

Long shot but has anyone been to the Hallenstadion in Zurich. Hoping to see Ghost and Just wondering what a non golden circle standing ticket is like there?

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 4,350 ✭✭✭Stillill42

And still Bono stays silent. Absolute charlatan.

  • Moderators, Social & Fun Moderators Posts: 6,912 Mod ✭✭✭✭Irish Aris

That would be summer 2026, right? I think they won't start touring until autumn.

I believe they sold out Malahide the last time. I'd say they can sell it out again. Marley park could be an option too, with 1-2 good opening acts I could see them selling 30k tickets. The Cure tend to have good ticket prices, so that's a plus for fans.

2025 gigs: Selofan, Alison Moyet, Wardruna, Gavin Friday, Orla Gartland, The Courettes, Nine Inch Nails, Rhiannon Giddens, New Purple Celebration, Nova Twins

    I have.

Its like most other Arena floors, prob 70 yards long by 35 yards wide.

Id go for the Golden Circle for 25 euro more that will guarantee a great view and you wont need to be there early.

    They are available here
