Sky mobile Ireland Hidden set up cost

I'm just wondering if anyone else has had this when trying to sign up for Sky Mobile.

Just to note I don't have a sky account and i havent had one in over 3 years now.

I'm in the market for a new phone and hopefully reduce my bill. So i landed on the new sky mobile offers. Found a deal that i liked. Quoted on their website that the handset was free with no upfront cost. The monthly payment would be €36 a month for the device and the monthly bill. Great deal from what i'm paying now so i tried to place the order on their website but it wouldn't go through.

So i took myself to their kiosk in Swords to place the order, same deal the whole way through the process and then at the end the sales person brings up a screen on his ipad quoting a set up fee of €216 but the bill would reduce to €18 a month. He couldnt give me a legitimate answer as to why it was ZERO set up cost as advertised on their website to now having to pay that upfront cost.

Has anyone else had a similar experience with this or have any idea why this may be happening?

    Thanks

Other networks do this too - its based on a "credit check". I've tried Virgin Media and they would end up asking for hundreds more euro as a down payment when you go through the process online. I think Vodafone have also done it in the past too.
