Call me MR PICKY but Im ticked off with RTE in general, and Dessie Cahill, in particular use of the word "qualifier " to describe a "qualifying game". Call me MR PICKY but Im ticked off with RTE in general, and Dessie Cahill, in particular use of the word "qualifier " to describe a "qualifying game".

As in Ireland meet England in a World Cup qualifier at Lansdowne Rd.

To me , the definition of "qualifier" is "one who qualifies"
or "one who has qualified."

This usage has become accepted now .... but to a true disciple of the spoken English its incorrect.

I don't like that either.

Sports commentators are famous for garbling the English language!
