Ugly Cars

There I am stuck in traffic as usual on my drive home on M50 and I notice what I think is a 'banger' SUV/mini van in front of me.

Horrible big square black box of a thing with tiny lights across the back, like something from the 1980s.

I nearly died when I saw it was a 242 D brand new Santa Fe. Without a doubt the ugliest car currently on the road. I will admit it didn't look as bad from front but still no getting away from that design on back.

So it got me thinking, what do you think it the ugliest car around at the moment?

    Hyundai ionic 6! Ugly as…f##k

Yep hate that one aswell, whats going on with Hyundai, they always had nice cars before.

Did they get some nutjob lately to design all their cars.

I find most of the EVs grotesque. They're like Japanese cartoon cars.

    ionic 6

    Nissan Juke

    Nearly all SUV's

In fact any car where the roof is more than 5 feet off the ground and has more than 2 doors is onto a looser when it comes to good looks!

Apparently that new Santa Fe is meant to beautiful personally I don't see it.

Another one is the Kia EV9.

I agree with the Hyundai 6, its like a 911 smashed into a Beetle

    I hate these two SUVs

Jaysus that Kia EV9 is horrific.

The only EV cars I like are ones that don't look like an electric car!

The id4 is grand and the Skoda EV think it's Enya or something like that just looks like their normal SUV.

Have you actually seen the Santa Fe in real life? I'm not been smart but doesn't look that bad in pictures, only when your stuck behind it for 20 mins that you would see how horrific the car is.

Honestly a new car that looks like it's from the 80s is shocking.

Ioniq 6, Mercedes EQE and EQS all look a bit off because of the excellent aerodynamics.

Audi seem to have cracked the aerodynamics problem and kept car looking good with the new A6 etron. The much less aerodynamic and less range and probably dearer Q6 will still outsell it though so you'd wonder why they bother.

Tesla model Y horrendous looking, doesn't stop it being unbelievably popular.

Some coupé style SUVs look very awkward and ugly from behind when the roof starts swooping into the coupe back end from a height, looks very out of proportion.

Some BMW SUV are among the ugliest front ends now, I saw one the other day coming towards me I forget what model it was, not the big ix, maybe ix2 or ix3 or something, I couldn't believe the state of it.

Most if not all electric cars. No wonder no one Is buying

I don't mind the Model 3, but the Tesla Model Y is a really strange looking car. It's aerodynamics seem to be operating front, back and sides.

The Santa Fe just doesn't look like a car for the Irish market. I could see it being used in the States, for transporting criminals between prisons.

VW ID4 & ID5 . Both look very frumpy and inelegant - to my eyes anyway.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 1,163 ✭✭✭freddieot

Love the Santa Fe although it took a while for the back to grow on me.

Hate most EVs especially the Nissan Ariya, Toyota Abcwhatever, all pregnant looking Mercs and my 1977 Datsun had a more interesting interior than most Teslas - horrific looking yolks.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 1,163 ✭✭✭freddieot

Exactly, like most VWs, no real design innovation since the original classic beetle, boring as hell and could be from any decade since the 80s. One day soon they'll probably relaunch the old Jetta design, as an EV of course.

I’ve always thought the rear view of the Landrover Discovery is horrendous with the plate all over to one side. Looks as if the car has had a stroke! 😂

The Toyota Prius looks ridiculous now, especially from the rear

The original Prius was quite a decent design. The winged tail lights were just ludicrous looking and basically wrecked it.

Also, yeah the Discovery with the off-centre plate is annoying. It's like that fad for asymmetric clothes that lasted a very short time.

I think the Tesla 3 rear end is ungainly.

This, get the feeling they're all copied from the Jetsons or similar.

That iteration of the prius was very ugly , the previous two were reasonable looking. In recent years Toyota seem to have got their sh*t together with their design language , the current prius is an attractive machine

I'd be on the same page as you on that. Love the interior of all of them as well.

It's one area that Europe used to be quite reliably good at - generally producing a high % of nice looking, well designed cars. That's really not the case anymore.

The 'sci-fi' design aesthetic for EVs is probably putting a lot of people off.

Also they need to either put a grill on it or don't, but stop making these awful looking fronts. There's no reason for them in most cases, and if you look at older designs of cars the grills were often quite minimised. The big brute of a giant grill seems to have become a thing and has carried through to EVs.
