We didn't look like title contenders '' today'' , we might soon enough though, still need players, we are lost without Mac Allister in midfield, Sobo was poor, Jones made up for it, Gravenberch hustled all game, never hid, but lacked the protection of Mac, so was up against it at times.

Chelsea are a good team and will be in the champions league next year I’m fairly sure of that, they’d scored 15 in 7 games before today and we reduced them to 2 shots on target was all, we played well, deserved to win and probably could have had another goal. Chelsea could have gotten a penalty and Tosin could have been sent off on another day, thems the breaks.

Perspective needed all things considered, I will 1000% take the same performance next week against Arsenal but I’d definitely bring in Mac for Szobo who just isn’t 100% at it at the moment unfortunately.

It was fantastic to be fair, only just back from the ground.

Atmosphere was poor in the first half though, was sat near the Chelsea supporters so maybe that drowned out the Kop a bit but even when they weren't singing the place was fairly quiet.

Definitely picked up in the second half, especially after they equalised. Nunez had his couple of dumb moments but he was electric since coming on, Jones and Trent were huge as well.

I'm not sure how Salah's performance came across on TV and it wasn't one of his best ever games by any means, but he put the fear of god into every Chelsea player and supporter any time the ball came his way. Couldn't believe how strong his presence was on the pitch, had the joy of seeing Messi play live once and Mo has almost the same aura about him.

Brilliant day out overall, the new Anfield Road end is top class. Voice is bollixed from the singing so it's time to head out for a liquid remedy. 😉

    Brilliant, sounds great 🙂

I thought Mo's vision today looked incredible, he seemed to be seeing passes like he was floating above the pitch. They didn't all come off, but I enjoyed seeing what he was trying

He's adapting his game as he ages from an athletic goalscorer to playmaker.

I'm very much on the Alexis, Jones, Grav train too for Arsenal. Szoboszlai not quite clicking as well as those 3, and could be a shrewd impact sub.

Played and beat probably the 4th best team in the league without playing our best. That is exactly what potential title winners do!

I actually thought Grav was great today in a tough midfield battle.

Blues fan since 1970 here in peace.

Was pleased with Chelsea. Thought we'd be blown away, but we're improving thank God.

However, VERY Impressed with Pool. There is a steel and game management to their play now. They deserved to win.

Not quite as flamboyant as under Klopp, but I can see an attitude that can beat City. Slot has brought an extra layer to their game, ie how to kill a game. Thats how you win titles.

    oh BTW Salah was sublime.

    Best of luck to ye.

Would maybe like to see Endo, Mac and Szobo start in Leipzig during the week now, since Mac got a decent rest today. Give him 60 minutes and bring on Grav or Jones for him then.

Definitely want Grav, Jones, and Mac all feeling fit and rested enough for next weekend.

Yea. I thought Chelsea were more than decent today, it's a good win without having any of the South American players really available.

Prioritize Arsenal this week, we can afford to shuffle the deck against Leipzig a bit (depending on who's available.)

Benitez on MOTD giving some great thoughts on the game today.

We did what was needed. I thought Gakpo was poor and Szobo is not at it at all.

I'm not feeling particularly well this morning but the win will get me through the morn.

As the gracious visitor put it, we are learning to win ugly and there's nothing wrong with that.

Big week this week Leipzig and Arsenal away, Leipzig are joint top in Germany and needless to say Arsenal will be another tough game.

I share some of the concerns about Robbo but I thought he was mostly good yesterday, Madueke got the better of him at times but he's an excellent 1v1 winger who will do that to any fullback; we don't say every fullback who Diaz runs past is a bad player, we just acknowledge Diaz is really good at that.

The big concern is definitely Szobo, specifically when he's on the ball. When we're defending he's actually been quite good, happy to run all day and put in challenges, but in possession he is the ultimate dawdler. Every single time he gets the ball in a promising area he manages to squander it in increasingly baffling ways.

Szobo turning into our Jordan Henderson. That's the impression I got from yesterday's game. He'll run all day chasing the ball but his end product on the ball is lacking.

I thought it was an excellent performance, we were quite happy to let them have possession.

1 big game gone, 10 to follow.

I don't think that's fair on Henderson. He was never the most skilful but he was always good enough and capable of good passes and through balls etc.

Szoboszlai seems to lose the ball constantly with really crap passes or indecision. It is a major issue, Jones basically covered for him yesterday by putting in a MOTM performance.

Jones over Szobo until he figures out what he actually offers, because all I can see is poor passing and decision making. Some fans sleep on jones but hes a damn good player when he gets a run in the side, probably our best midfielder in the first half of last season.

What? Henderson was a thorougly underated midfielder, I have seen nothing from Szobo to suggest hes half the player Hendo was.

The American feed I was watching yesterday mentioned that Liverpool haven't lost a PL game they were leading in Anfield at HT since 2016.

They also noted that Chelsea had spent $1.2bn more than Liverpool over the last 2 transfer windows.

    Mad stats.

We all new talks were going on but VVD has confirmed them himself at least.

a left back has to be top priority in the next window andy looks to have fallen off a cliff

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 17,442 ✭✭✭✭Fitz*

I thought Trent defended very well yesterday. It does go unnoticed when he does I think.

I think it's telling that all of Chelsea's subs were made on their left hand side, as they got no joy down that side of the pitch at all. Sancho → Neto at HT and then James → Veiga too. Badiashile, Enzo & Nkunku all leaned more to that side of the pitch also.

This was the incident that Neville kept saying Salah should have been booked for.

While I'm not entirely convinced that it was a penalty, I think that it was more of a coming together which you just play on from, there was a foul initially outside the box that the referee just ignored also.

  • Administrators Posts: 56,309 Admin ✭✭✭✭✭awec

It was definitely not a penalty IMO. There was contact, but Salah exaggerated the contact and threw himself to the ground. Yellow probably harsh for it, penalty would have been harsh too, play on a good call.

Tackle before was definitely a foul and arguably ref could have brought play back for that?

So the ref actually did signal advantage after the first foul from Colwill, he just determined that 1 touch of the ball before losing possession was enough of an advantage to not call it back for a free kick…

This one really got me too, it's a clear dive from Reece James but even if it was a foul surely the ball is in a dangerous enough position that the ref should wait 10 seconds to see if a goal is scored, then review the foul with the VAR:
