It was a huge help in our build up as well and he looked fairly solid for the most part.

Who would people play at rb if Martinez was to cover lb, Mazraoui or Dalot

Dalot is the obvious fit as it’s his best position. I’d go with him at RB, and keep Matinez at LB until Shaw is back.

Probably rotate tbf - bring one on after 60 mins for fresh legs. Also Dalot has played a fierce number of games so some rest/rotation for him would make sense. Maz may not be up to the full 90 yet though for midweek

Ya rotation is a good idea actually,.dalot has played way way too much and while I've no figures he seems to do a lot of running ans sprinting then others he pops up everywhere these days.

I think I'd go Mazraoui myself but wouldn't complain either way

Lads ,I thought this thread was only to be used by Man united supporters.

After the Spurs defeat we had over 60 comments within an hour and now an hour after a great result playing great attacking football and should have won by a good bit more we only have about 10 contributors interested.

Everyone is entitled to their opinion but at least be consistent when we get a good result.

Just saw the highlights. The assist from Rashford for Garnacho was brilliant. A super ball. Not bad at all from Bruno for Hojlund either.

Havent watched the game myself yet, sounded like we had a very good second half.

It’s also Mazraoui’s best position so there is no obvious fit really but I would prefer him to be playing right now ahead of Dalot.

Rashford played some outstanding passes today.

Very harsh. There has been very little to get happy about for years and every time the team plays half decent and a new corner has been turned it is followed by yet more disappointment.

There comes a time where it is perfectly reasonable to wait before getting over excited.

Beating Brentford at home shouldn't really need much discussion. These games are not going to be what anyone is judged on.

Em, they scored 2 goals because Bruno and Rashford produced a bit of quality to set up Højlund and Garnacho who took their goals well.

I didn't see too much great attacking football.

Can you outline occasions where there was any effective interplay between the striker and the wingers? Like setting up chances for each other?

It was an attritional win. Why are you trying to make it out like they won 5-1?

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 626 ✭✭✭kyleman

I'll admit i only listened to first half commentary but saw second half and loved it.

Someone else must have mentioned 5-1.

There were good moments from individuals in the 2nd half. Bruno getting close to the striker, Højlund taking the chance when it came to him, positives for sure.

To call it a display of great attacking football is to be hyperbolic. There is a big problem in the attack and the fluidity of it. 2 goals at home against Brentford doesn't change that.

    I rest my case….

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 626 ✭✭✭kyleman

I'll admit we are not the finished article but we had 23 shots on goal with almost half on target.

Brentford on the other hand only had a couple on target.

That missed chance from a potential Onana assist. I have them both in fantasy football - would've made my week.

Absolutely thrilled with Hojund today just his general play was much better (still a ways to go yet) and he looked like he could take the physical battle finally, like there is no doubt his finishing is top class we just need to get him the ball more in good positions and he will deliver.

Him and garnacho where way off each others patterns today but that should come with more game time together.

Fantastic. It was like watching Tottenham Hotspur at times.

Second half was a major improvement and as big a ETH fan I am, he really needs to start getting this team to keep that type of performance up. I know it won’t happen against better teams but surely we should be controlling and dominating most teams.

“Its only Brentford” has being put up on here, but if Brentford be at us it’s the end of the world. We can only beat what is in front of us

I imagine our medical team got chewed out yesterday for not addressing DeLigt's head injury properly. It's a poor look having the player sent to the sidelines three times to treat a blood wound, reducing us to 10 men for unnecessarily long periods and leading to their goal.

Hed have to have gone to the dressing room I guess. We dont know of the medical team were told to try do something quick rather than take him to the dressing room.

Plus, you then simply have to blame the players or coaches for messing up the assignments on the subsequent corner.

I'll be honest, when I saw Rashford on the right and Garnacho left, my blood began to boil. But I was wrong and it worked so credit to the manager on that one.

You'd have to feel sorry for the manager in a lot of ways looking at the lineup yesterday. He's been absolutely cursed with injuries. The lack of pace and legs we had in key areas of the field is ridiculous.

Rashford now has zero excuses to not put that type of performance in every week. He was so smart with his work defensively. It's not even about running more with him. It's knowing when to run. He and Hojlund were excellent.

Really need a left full fit. It's really hindering us. At least we had a left footer there yesterday and you could see how much easier it made life for the likes of Casemiro. Gives him a couple yards extra space and time to play which he needs at this point.

How can you try to blame it on the coach and not the medical team.

Really, that is reaching at this stage.

It's either the fault of the medical team or it just happened. You can possibly be blaming EtH for the medical team not stopping the flow of the blood properly.

No way he asked them to botch up the job.

Overall a good team performance, we were the best team in both halves. Some great chances were missed by the players, which falls on them, not the manager. If they had taken their chances better would have been a more comfortable win.

    Hopefully more consistency to come.

MOTD analysis showed the gap from having De Ligt off the pitch, nobody expected De Ligt to be told to get off during a corner.

It kinda happened so fast you can't really blame anyone, though Dalot didn't cover himself in glory.

Imo MDL has been our best defender this season.

How can you be sure the medical team didn't say

    We can:

    1. Try a patch job til half time, might not work
    2. Take him away for 5 minutes while we do a more solid fix.

And then ETH and the coaches chose option 1?

I dint see how that's a reach, seems a reasonable course of events to have happened?
