February rates there. Can't see any reductions from BGE this year whatever about next year. They are not prime movers even though in 2nd place for customer numbers.

    Shocking stuff from BGE .

Energia have 8 cent Gas. Electricity Day 26c /Night 14c /Peak 28c and it's not even the best deal out there.

My contract expires next March. You will be paying the same gas rate but 1 cent more on electricity.Ask for lower on electricity - 25.??c or look elsewhere.I think BGE have the lowest standing charges of all

with Energia and looking for options as OOC in 2 weeks.

Best they could offer is 24 hour rate smart 24/7 @23% 25.32c(27.60 incl vat) down from 27.95(30.46incl vat)

Current usage is 3850KWH approx for 12 months which is costing me €1,424

    My options are as follows

    2. EI- 1112.30 home electric saver 28% - 23.67 (25.8c) 2024 & 22.48 (24.5c) 2025 & SC 230 & PSO 38.74 = €1,232 savings 162.23€ (25.15c per unit IV)

    1. SSE - 1122.83 Smart D/N/P (24.5/15.93/31c) & 217 SC PSO 38.74 & 9% vat 115.15 =€1,122 savings 271.7€

    (23.8c per unit IV)

    Flo Gas - 1149.00 team Ireland smart 24 D/N/P (28.52/22.23/33.73) 217 SC & PSO 38.74 = 1299.05 savings 95.48€

    (28.16c per unit IV)

    3. Bord Gais - 1150 Smart New Elec 32% &50€ D/N/P (26.63/19.65/32.41) SC 218.55 & PSO 42.23= 1200.25 savings 194.28€ (26.62c per unit IV)

    My question is this:

which of these companies can you vouch for? which has the best and worst customer service in you opinion?

    thanks

    J

You will have people with positive and negative experiences of all 3. Sometimes you just gotta take a punt and choose one. At the end of the day, once you are set up correctly with the bill agreed on, that's all that matters and can pay the bills, you will be grand.

My experience with SSE, Energia and Electric Ireland is that they'll do nothing unless you either contact them or initiate a move to another provider, don't wait too long as you'll revert to their standard rates.

Its not the worst offer. I havent looked properly yet. But given its lower, if I had no other options, it wouldn't be the worst.

Hoing to renew electricity tommorow currently bord gais . There offer of 25% discount plus €50 bring my average rural usage bill to €1430.

Just on switcher and bonkers and cheapest for same usage is €1309 from electric Ireland with their €100 cashback counted in on the price and their unit price cut due on 1st November included in that estimation also

Anyone know if there is still a charge to switch from prepay gas meter to bill pay?

Time is contagious, everybody's getting old.

Energia offering me a Nest Hub to stay. Dated and already have conventional Nest in that gaff; no thanks.

I was told 5% more off their plan a few days after I left. It still made them more expensive than all others so I’ve switched!

No sign of any of them dropping below the 23c for a 24hr meter.

Just had 2 reps from SSE call to the door encouraging me to take them up on a fixed plan. Apparently, ‘they expect’ a price rise in 4months with more people buying SUVs and greater demand for electricity ⚡️🧂

Did get me thinking though, current fixed rates are close to variable (eg. SSE fixed 23.53 vs Energia 23.61 variable per unit -Standard 24hr).

Any thoughts on how unit prices may change in the months ahead?

Would you go Fixed or Variable?

Door to Door sales will say anything to get your signature. I'm not saying they are wrong, but a few people on this thread have been told one thing and signed up to another.

I asked ChatGPT "How many new electric cars need to be sold in any 12 month period in Ireland to have any meaningful impact on national electricity demand?"

    ChatGPT response:

In 2023, Ireland’s electricity demand was approximately 6.9 MWh per capita. With a population of around 5 million, this translates to a total national electricity demand of about 34.5 TWh.

Given that 22,493 new electric cars were sold in Ireland in 2023, let’s estimate the impact of these cars on electricity demand. If each electric car consumes around 3,000 kWh per year, the total electricity consumption for these new electric cars would be:

    Total consumption=22,493 cars×3,000 kWh/car=67,479,000 kWh=67.5 GWh

To have a meaningful impact, let’s consider a scenario where electric cars account for at least 1% of the national electricity demand. For electric cars to have a meaningful impact on Ireland’s national electricity demand, approximately 115,000 new electric cars would need to be sold in a 12-month period. This would represent about 1% of the national electricity demand, which is a significant milestone.

Car dealerships are going to be busy in the next while so.

    …What a couple of spoofers.

If an SSE rep tells you the sky is blue, something disastrous has happened because it clearly isn't anymore.

tbe key take away here is to not answer the door to hawkers, they aren’t knocking for your benefit

Yeah, these guys asked my MPRN number, what company I was with, quoted me without vat included, asked to come into the porch (due to v light drizzle), sure I almost had them move in 😅 I wonder what sort of training they get

Why would you leave them in the rain? Either tell them to go away or let them in the porch if it's raining. That's just common decency!
