It’s funny but I have the complete opposite experience and find Three the best of the three networks by a long shot. Vodafone network isn’t great around here, as I found out, and I’m after switching to Eir and they’re even worse.

My phone is showing 5G but struggling to load webpages. Just tried to do a speed test there with 3/4 5G bars and fast.com is stuck on 660kbps and testmy.net and Speedtest.net won’t even load.

I was going to wait until my current offer ran out to get my money’s worth but don’t think I’ll bother and just move back to 48 or even Three.

About 3 weeks ago I got a 3 esim to test with the intention of porting my personal phone over (3 now have better roaming options outside EU than Vodafone which I need) and I'm finding it the same. Very poor speeds, what appears to be good coverage bars but very unstable internet (speeds blazing fast one minute and crawling the next ) and call quality definitely not as good and I'm noticing 3G a fair bit. I did try Eir last year and found they'd improved greatly. 5G was available almost everywhere I went across the country to my surprise but the speeds were on par with 3s 4G or Vodafones 4G. We used to be with 3 for work before they swapped to Vodafone but based on the experience in the last 3 weeks I think they're deteriorating not improving. My brother in law mentioned last week that he used to have good 3 coverage around home and noticed it has now started to break up and calls drop too.

I might give Sky a shot in another few weeks once the MFA issues etc are resolved and just use Airalo eSIM when outside EU but don't want to port to them until feedback is better than it has been

I also find 3 network brilliant - run my internet of a 3 hero plan sim for 15e/month and my mobile is tesco mob @ 20e/month - cannot fault them.

    I subscribed, keep boards alive!!

Yeah I had the 5g auto on and accepted the settings they messaged me. I am using the 16 pro max and was disappointed it didn't work out as it's a fantastic deal. Maybe I might give them another go when I know i'm around to try it out more. The 14 day cooling off period got me spooked as my time was running out.

The lack of international calls would be an issue for drivers. I only go up the north occasionally but regularly need to ring customers

Have they excluded Northern Ireland from their domestic call plans? Must be the first company to do that

I just realised that I’m with Sky mobile a month today!

So thought I’d give a quick update.

Initially I was one of those unlucky customers with the 2FA issue i.e. not receiving verification sms.

However I haven’t experienced the issue lately, so I guess the issue could be fixed now.

The only issue I experience now is temporarily getting stuck at “E” with no data. This seems to happen periodically when I leave my house WiFi and it hands over to mobile data. I’ve also seen it happen coming out of a weak underground signal area.

However the issue is quickly remedied by airplane mode.

I have added a shortcut button to my Home Screen (iOS). Pressing it basically turns on airplane mode, waits 3 seconds, and then turns airplane mode off. All seamlessly.

I see this as being a temporary issue and hopefully one they get sorted over time. I’m not overly concerned about it and it’s one I can fix myself, so only a minor inconvenience.

    Otherwise happy enough so far.

No, roam like home applies in UK like ir does in EU. Who'd touch it otherwise?

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2, Paid Member Posts: 3,223 ✭✭✭Glaceon

I think they're asking if Sky treat calls to NI as international? I think they all do if dialled as +44 28, but not with 048.

    great discussion this.

I was initially going to port my sons to Sky, but not a chance now.

    Went with gomo, €15 , 30 day.

If it’s not good for him, then can port elsewhere

Switched to sky last week, I've a pixel 7a,

I'm not getting 5g, just LTE, but with good speeds. - I'm in an area with perfect 5g network, and have been in larger towns with the phone, still no 5g.

Is this a network issue? A pixel issue? All settings are present and correct as far as I'm aware.

    Anyone else having this issue?

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2, Paid Member Posts: 3,223 ✭✭✭Glaceon

Pixel issue, it has a whitelist of networks for which 5G is approved for. Sky isn’t one of them. It was mentioned earlier in this thread that the next Android update will remove the whitelist.

Sound. Thanks for quick reply, it's been bugging me

I had this exact same problem, it would get stuck on E or G after a restart of the phone, after using airplane mode, after disconnecting from Wi-Fi or even while using LTE / 5G it would happen. Not sure what is happening.

Have the issues with WiFi calling been resolved? Planning to leave 48 as they cant offer it and badly needed in my current house during the day

Not for me on s23 ultra anyways. No option to turn it on

What phone are you using? I have iphone 12 and partner has Samsung S24, both have wifi calling. Conscious for other phones on this thread (especially Google phones) may not have available yet.

Am hoping we have joined at the right time and all the crap they had initially are all sorted, thankfully no issues for either of us so far (almost 2 weeks in).

Has anyone bought a phone from them? Took this from their site, 36 month contract for S24 phone that seems to decrease monthly price in the last 12 months. The 24M contract is the same craic with the monthly price much higher initially, and then decreases for last 12 months.

Feels a bit complex for me but will look more into it when/if iPhones come along.

Does this price include a Sky Mobile plan too? If so it's kind of an insane deal. A S24 is 919.99 in DID so not only is 888 cheaper but if it includes three years of unlimited calls, texts and data it's a steal.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 6,353 ✭✭✭caviardreams

No it doesn't - the plan is 15 per month on top. So you end up paying 888 for the phone

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 8 Spatula99

Yes think its slightly cheaper in this example, but assume the price could change for the better/worse depending on when ordered. Seems the A55 is more expensive to buy outright than other places from a quick check there now.

S24 is average of €24.67 a month on the 36 month deal for the phone only, says on site they stop charging you after contract ends and the SIM is a separate contract - presume this is a dig at Vodafone/Three/eir.

Can't see anything about CPI +3% like the others if anyone knows?

Vodafone/Three/eir are only ones doing the inflation+3% yearly increase. Sky do do a yearly increase but you're usually free to leave the contract early, however with mobile the price is being advertised as "for life" so shouldn't be any increases at all.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 987 ✭✭✭feargantae

Change the +4428 to 048 and it'll be treated as a national call.

Hi Folks. Changed from Vodafone to Sky last week. Got the sim in the post yesterday morning. Activated SIM about 9amat about 5pm lost network on my Vodafone sim, popped in the sky Sim all working OK, Voice over data and WiFi calling both working, getting same data speeds in house as I was with Vodafone. So all happy so far. Using a Samsung S24

So the S24 is provisioned for 4G calling, aka VoLte. I've just come back from a quick visit to the SKY shop/booth in Liffey Valley where I signed on. Helpful lady there went through my phone with practised hands, confirming what I knew, my phone is ready, the carrier is ready, they just haven't provisioned my settings. She gave me the help number to ring, just said to say you want to cancel, and you'll get a real human, hopefully not one abroad.

I'd like to see a screen shot of the APN list on the S24, is there only one entry like mine, or is there a seperate one named IMS. I'd be curious to see the actual APN settings too, they're fairly sparse on mine, just the name and url, the country and carrier, and a list of all the APN types.

    My apn list

This is from my S24 .VoLte is working on mines

Thanks. I don't have the last 2 values, I'll give then a go.

First issue I might have found with Sky Mobile IE is that there might be an issue with calling or call routing to the funky 088 numbers used for  ‘Internet of Things’/IoT/'machine use' 13 digit numbers for the likes of electic gates. More testing needed to confirm.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2, Paid Member Posts: 8,145 ✭✭✭deezell

No joy. When I created a new APN, it deleted the other one. I seen that before when I tried adding another APN, depending on the values used it would vanish the original.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2, Paid Member Posts: 3,223 ✭✭✭Glaceon

I wonder if they haven’t provisioned your account on the IMS or something?

I'll ring that number early tomorrow, too busy with other stuff today, too late now.
