    Thanks.

I understand what you are attempting to explain. I just disagree with you with regards to what constitutes hate and why I believe that hate speech is a nonsense and open to manipulation and abuse of power.

But your condescenting tone has been noted and appreciated.

I would accuse you of "mansplaining" which I find deeply offensive, but I don't want to assume your gender because it could be hate speech.

Christ, I thought this rabbit-hole would have reached its bottom once we got to "How do you define love" or whatever.

So how about we drag this back to Trump, who last night at a town hall event, stopped answering questions halfway through, then stood on the stage for about 30 minutes as music played while randomly pointing at people, clapping, and swaying back and forth.

Never thought I'd say this, but bring back "THEY'RE EATING THE DOGS!"

Washington Post is the only outlet covering it. Imagine if Biden had done what Trump did last night? He couldn’t pause for breath without being labelled senile or unfit.
I just hope everyone gets out and votes in a few weeks. Trump will be very bad news for us in Ireland. The multinationals will get their Trump tax cuts but a string will be attached to bring back jobs to America. Small fish like us will be first to be hit with that.

    They're already ignoring it.

I wonder how much truth will be in the conspiracy theory that they'll enact the 25th amendment as soon as possible, and install JD Vance, who will in turn pardon Trump for all federal crimes? (which is all he really cares about). Then Vance can put all the heinous parts of Project 25 in motion.

Nah, they'll absolutely keep Trump. I've said before but for Project 2025 stuff, they'll just rename it Trump 47 Agenda or something and Trump will sign it off no problem. Any cases against Trump will be paused during his Presidency and he'll make sure he's free and easy after his term.

Trump would be too useful a figurehead to be gotten rid of. He won't care what others are doing, so long as he's just President again.

I wonder if Donnie is somehow being made/promised to do X number of minutes of an "appearance" on stage, but in these cases has either used up his material early or simply cannot be arsed to continue talking and just wants to hang out with his MAGA crowd while they listen to music awkwardly together.

Much like my hope for an eventual well made documentary of the hell that likely took place within the White House while Donnie was there, I would also love to see some kind of expose/documentary of whatever drama has happened (and is happening now) behind the scenes with Donnie's team. It must be truly facinating.

Just from the past few weeks we could already glean:

    • A team that tried to get him to "be nice" after the shooting. Something that he publically complained about during a rally.
    • Regularly throwing his team under the bus about teleprompter failure.
    • A team that tried to get him to focus on the economy, with even a little TicTac box to use as a prop to explain "Shrinkflation". Donnie proceeds to fail in this task and then complains about being directed to focus on the economy.
    • He debate prep amounted to one Yes-woman doing a likely piss-poor run through with him without feedback from his team.

This clearly isn't the best working relationship out there, and that's likely an understatement. His team is trying with clear despiration to get thier "guy" to actually function as a Presidential canditate, and he just doesn't want to. Or, he just can't anymore…

Exactly - Why take all the blame.

They can allow Trump to take all the hate while they run the show…

Erm… @scottser politely go and interfere with yourself if you need to resort to misogynistic comments like that.

And yup @ronjo I would class that as racist. Stupid racist thing to say.

At least Biden was only senile, Trump is senile and deranged.

Jeez, it was only a joke. Next thing you'll be telling me it was hate speech.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 1,210 ✭✭✭Yvonne007

Oh don't worry Scott. I know plenty like you.

I wouldn't class it as hate speech (although by rules you believe, it could be).

I just think it is speech that speaks volumes. I've learned more about your character in those few words than if I had been speaking with you for months.

Who ever suggested that vegetarian were hitlers.

While you may not think trump is a white supremacists , white supremacists think he is. I have yet to see any ‘white supremacists for democrats’ signs being waved around.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 1,210 ✭✭✭Yvonne007

Sorry if I wasn't clear. Hitler was a vegetarian, so therefore vegetarians are like hitler.

It was a little clumsy but wasn't intended to be be taken seriously.

If a white supremacist likes trump, that doesn't mean that others should be afraid to like trump in case they are classed as white supremacists.

Same as you shouldn't be afraid to support Harris without being labelled a crazy lefty lunatic.

You know this is the internet? Stuff on the internet isn't like real life. You know nothing about me or anyone else here.

Sorry for mainsplaining this to you.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 6,422 ✭✭✭Flaneur OBrien

It means you should look at WHY white supremacists like Trump, before aligning yourself with him.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 1,210 ✭✭✭Yvonne007

You do realise that people on here have a real life and sometimes things said online effect people's "real" lives?

I dont care personally but I know people who are deeply upset about their online interactions. I know a couple of people on here and they are very nice and supportive, so you are wrong about that too.

And not being able to spell "mansplaining" is quite funny.

But sure, this isn't real. The internet is imaginary.

    Fair.

I think more people should take more time to think who they align themselves with. I wouldn't necessarily consider other peoples allegiance. If my reasoning is just and fair, I have nothing to apoligise for.

If I can justify my decision based on an informed and educated metric, I shouldn't care who else agrees with me. I shouldn't be swayed by fear of being stigmatised by who agrees with me.

But I get where you are coming from.

But Trump also actively spends plenty of time with prominent white supremacists. So frequent racist remarks coupled with hanging white supremacists very much so makes him a racist. You say racism concerns you but you're happy to largely discount this.

I discount it because it it hugely overblown. Laura Loomer is a strange one, I grant that. But Nick Fuentes (who I hate) wasn't a huge amount of time.

You are presenting it as if donald trump is hanging our with Nazis every weekend and only ever associates with black people when he attended P Diddy parties.

It's not true. Trump has said contentious things which i disagree with, has met and spoke with people I hate and has opinions I don't agree with.

I don't discount association with known racists. I acknowledge it and don't approve.

But you should be swayed by facts. Trump is a convicted felon. He owes 450m+ to a person he sexually assaulted and then continued to defame.

He stole classified documents, lied about them numerous times, and refused to return them.

He played a leading role in the Jan 6th attempted insurrection and gladly sat by whilst his own VP was being hunted by a mob.

He has dinners with white supremacists in his own house, meaning he invited them. Even if he wasn't aware ahead of time, at no point does he ever apologise and condemn their racism.

That is the person you are aligning yourself to. Take away whether you feel others are being fair to him or not. What do you think of all the above, and there is much, much more.

Are you happy to align yourself with a person like that?

Firstly there is no evidence to suggest that Kamala is a crazy left lunatic. You would have to be crazy to claim that.
Trump is quite obviously a racist proved by the Central Park Five and the birther campaign. Not renting apts to black people adds to it.

He is also a sexual deviant. This is proved by his own pussy tape. He talks of going into underage girls dressing room to see the young girls naked.

He is also an adjudicated rapist for good measure.

While his wife was pregnant he was cheating on her with a playboy model who he cheated on with a porn star and did not use protection.

He was barred from running charities in NY for taking monies from a children’s cancer charity.

He is also a convicted felon.

Taking all of the above into consideration, if you still support trump you have to accept that you belong to a cohort of people that have no problem with racism, rape, theft, fraud, dishonesty, being unchristian, being unfaithful.

To cap it all he is a traitor to the United States of America.

That is some rogues gallery of disgusting traits.

The lefty lunatics hate Kamala and are only holding their nose voting for her if they do at all. The far right definitely loves Trump.

As you say he meets with questionable people. He says questionable things. How much walking and talking like a duck do you need? It is who he is and matches up with his words and actions.

Laura Loomer is a self described white nationalist. He's flying around the country with her and she's got his ear. She's also likely to end up with some position in his administration. Even the GOP are actively concerned with how close they are. So no, I think it's pretty ignorant to view it as no biggy.

You entered this thread to initially complain about Irish people taking a US election seriously. You've implied that posters are being unfair on Trump. You've been given reasonable responses on why most posters don't like him. You've discounted or sidestepped every reason on why he's completely unfit for political office. You're in denial of his racism, you explain away the company he keeps. The reality is that Donald Trump has more skeletons in his closet than the average axe murderer and it's pretty much impossible to defend the kind of person he is. We haven't even gone near the fact he's responsible for an insurrection, is a rapist and has called for the death penalty for a General that didn't side with him. There's still plenty more that he can be criticised for.

Meanwhile his opponent has none of that baggage. She's pretty normal and is unlikely to put European security in danger. She's not gonna use her platform to repeat stupid racist **** she hears from Laura Loomer. So it's not exactly surprising that Trump is hugely unpopular on the site. We just largely hope that the US hasn't forgotten what his presidency was like.

But you agreed that the 'eating our dogs' was racist, ergo Trump is a racist

Saw this on FB, kind of tracks with the behaviour Convicted Felon Trump encourages in his supporters. The reason the buses bailed on the Coachella Nuremberg rally was not just because the bus company was being stiffed. It's because the rally attendees attacked the drivers. Nasty.

Something to bear in mind next time there are complaints about Biden not doing enough for Ukraine:

According to Bob Woodward, Joe Biden stopped Putin from using battlefield nukes in Ukraine. I wonder how many Cuban Missile Crisis tests Biden has passed with utter competence and expertise.

This is the verdict on Trump and his 'policies'…

Rolling Stone's summary of his Bloomberg interview:

Donald Trump continued his pre-election economic event tour on Tuesday with a lengthy interview with Bloomberg at the Economic Club of Chicago. It was a total mess… It quickly became clear that the former president has no conception of the mechanics of or the potential ramifications of the economic platform he’s running on. Bluntly, the former president was incoherent when pressed with real questions…
When questioned about the specifics of his plan, and if he was aware of its pitfalls, Trump seemed ignorant of basic economic principles, insisting that other countries, not American consumers, would pay for the tariffs. Micklethwait tried to explain the actual impact. “Three-trillion worth of imports and you will add tariffs to every single one of them, and push up the cost for all of these people to buy foreign goods,” he said. “That is just simple mathematics.”
