Pat's would have some of the highest earners in the league.

SK got a massive deal anyway, he most definitely is the highest paid manager

Towell has done well in recent games coming on, he still has a good drive in him.

I think the close season could be tough for us.

I can see some players moving on. I don't think Maher will be with us next season. He'll be back in Dublin.

Also think O'Reilly will be gone. Patching too. Some of those short term signings like Wisdom, Robertson, Davenport might be shown the door (for all the good they did).

I think we need 2 good CBs. A driving attacking midfielder too, we are too pedestrian in the middle.

But will players want to come to Derry when they will have the pick of 3 Dublin clubs at the top of the league?

Not too sure Shels will be challenging next season if they fcuk this season up. I'll be honest about Shels, i have seen them maybe 6 or 7 times this season and they look to lack some quality that Rovers and Pat's have. They had great fight & spirit, but i can't recall them hammering many sides.

For me, well from what i have seen, Paddy Barrett looks to be their best player, Ali Coote has been inconsistent, although i think he has plenty of talent but since they have lost Jarvis the goals have completely dried up.

I've given up predicting next season standings when it comes to previous season form in the LOI to be honest.

Isn't O'Doherty funding the latest round of redevelopments in the Brandywell? Derry have security of tenure so they may as well own it. The plastic pitch suits the council but it probably suits Derry as well.

Pats absolutely pay well, but look at that Rovers squad. They get who they want ultimately 9 times out of 10

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 35,353 ✭✭✭✭NIMAN

We have security of tenure, but the pitch is used multiple times per day over most, if not all, days of the week.

Couldn't do that with a grass pitch, so the council will hold on to the plastic as long as they can. The chairman already offered to replace the pitch at his own cost, but was told no.

I don't think it suits us at all. We play terrible at home. I think we'd be a better team on grass, but it's not happening any time soon.

Them pitches should be fcuking outlawed. The amount of times lads from teams i played in got injured on them was a joke. Fair enough if we got the weather you get in Scandinavia, but we don't have that problem, oh, not to mention, what time of the year the matches are played in also

Regardless of Injuries, you'd get a different bounce of the ball on different part of the pitches also.

I was looking at it and even if we only take 2 points from the next 2, we will still have a live shout at the title on the last day (I’m not saying I actually believe Waterford win in tallaght). 2 wins in 13 could genuinely do it, but being realistic it’s almost definitely just death by a thousand cuts.

I have no idea how you could read that message and find optimism within it.

This part sounded like you were trying to paint a brighter picture than what is actually going to happen

The lads on RTE 2 last night think Derry City don't deserve to be league winners after their display. Sligo were really up for it. I think the league is won on merit and fair-doo's to Sligo and Bohs for giving Derry no quarter in their back games!

Shels, Derry & Shamrocks are fighting for it still, while St.Pats, Sligo & Galway still have a mathematical chance depending on results with all having 3 games left!

Now we know why it's the Greatest League in the World! 😀

Rovers have bad records away in both Drogheda and Dundalk so I wouldn't be surprised if we drop points there. Can see this going to the last game.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 3,186 ✭✭✭wazzzledazzle

Dundalk are fcuking atrocious, Rovers could send their u19's up and take 3 points. They'll beat Drogs no worries. That late goal against Apoel might have sparked them in to life finally

There are many statements you can make say something else if you chop half of them out in fairness.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 34,548 ✭✭✭✭CSF

Whoever crawls over the line will deserve it. This thing where we start giving extra credence to those who were sh*te in the first half of the season because they’re in form now, only matters a jot if that form takes them over the finish line.

The chance missed right at the end for Derry, the lad ballooned it over the bar it looked a weird bounce just before he hit it. Must be really hard to play on, the bounce is unnatural.

Dundalk were good against us 10 days ago, although it was one of our poorer performances all year. They kept the ball, had good movement and created chances. Always felt if we'd gone in front their heads would have dropped but we were too passive.

Can see 59 points winning it myself. Genuinely cant see Rovers, Shels or Derry winning their last 3, could see Pats doing it though and reaching 59 so it could easily go down to GD on the last day… any one of those 4 could win it on the last day.

The nerves at those fixtures will be off the charts.

Pats will not beat all of Galway, Derry and Sligo. They're in great form, but I would be very surprised if they managed that.

Rovers are favourites for me. I said it months ago when people wrote them off. They have the added bonus of having the momentum at the most important time of the season. All three of their games are against teams below the main pack.

Pats probably just left themselves one more win to now away from really pushing for a title. It may end up a pats v rovers top 2 push if Shels can’t win their next two. Imagine Derry and shels game at end is to decide who finished third and fourth. ( how demoralising would that be!)

I’m actually optimistic that if we play like we did against rovers (and end of pats game) shels will win the next two.

Which of those fixtures is tougher than a run of away to Rovers, Shels and Bohs?

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 34,548 ✭✭✭✭CSF

It’s not, and I’d have told you that they wouldn’t win those 3 and would have been wrong.

I’d still be very surprised if they won the next 3 also though. Anyone super confident of that happening should get down to the bookies and make some nice dollar, as they’re above evens to win this weekend alone.

The only team I think have a particularly strong chance of winning out is Rovers myself. I think this Friday in Drogheda is the banana skin. If they get past that with a win, I will be assuming Shels need to somehow win out to have any chance of salvaging it.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 2,314 ✭✭✭waynescales1

I'd prefer if Drogs still had a realistic chance of getting out of the relegation spot and not have a cup final to look forward to. Under the circumstances though I can see a comfortable win for Rovers on Friday.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 3,482 ✭✭✭topmanamillion

Obviously Drogheda have to get through the play off final and that's the priority. But after that they have a real chance of winning the cup and European football which would be a fairytale season.

The way that Derry side crumbled under the pressure on Monday night against Rovers and still looked second best against 10 men shows how weak of a mentality they have. I also think Doherty is the better manager compared to Higgins.

The saddest thing about the Shels collapse (and yes they may still win this league hilariously) is the effect it has clearly had on TGM.

    Hopes he's okay

The finish for the title should help the attendance figures as all the games are important!☺️
