    Thank you.

So, and this is a very rudimentary understanding of what you are saying, is Donald Trump wants to bring business back to America and promote american production and penalising imports.

I can see how that is not great news for Ireland alright.

    But isn´t that America First?

It would be great for the US if one was to believe Trump. However he has a track record of stiffing and cheating on any "deals" he proposes. Buyer beware is the best advice I would offer to anyone inclined to trust in his deals and electoral promises. He believes in Trump first, America second.

I struggle to see how the fact that she is a woman of color justifies rooting your criticism of her solely on the fact that she is a woman of color.

eg. if we criticized someone not for their actions or deeds but squarely in the fact they were a Jew, that would be ____ ?

So here's your first post today, I highlight your point about people discussing American politics and if Trump got in nothing will change and the same for Kamala.

    Now here's my reply

I gave you a direct historical example when a trump policy directly affected the cost of living/housing here, and then used that same example to show you how it would affect housing stock here.

Yet your response was to give out about it being an echo chamber and that no one is allowed criticise Harris, you're not here for discussion, you're here for outrage

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 1,210 ✭✭✭Yvonne007

I mentioned she is a woman of colour. It was not in any way a criticism.

It could only be interpreted as a criticism if someone thought that being a woman or a person of colour was an insult.

Reach harder if you want to get me on something like this.

God knows I have many contentious opinions, but racism and sexism is absolutely nothing I can be pulled up on.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 86,725 ✭✭✭✭Overheal

Orange man bad, woman of colour good.

    We got the memo.

You made it abundantly clear you deride her because of her inherent traits of being a woman of color.

Yet you complain about 'hate speech' against Donald Trump because ____ ? Can you give any examples?

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 1,210 ✭✭✭Yvonne007

Orange man bad, woman of colour good?

    I´m deriding her?

    You are absurd.

Obviously it was a play on the fact that people call Donald Trump orange.

There was nothing remotely insulting about anyone there (arguably you could say it was insulting towards Trump, but that wouldn´t fit your narrative)

Racism is serious and your attempts to ham a statement like this is the reason people don´t take actual racism serious enough.

    Disgusting.

Your previous remarks on hate speech and Trump does not indicate you take racism seriously at all. Trump only weeks ago spread rumours on national TV about Haitians eating dogs but not really racism apparently...

I thought Trumps statement was stupid and indefensible.

    Fundemental flaw in your argument.

Hate speech does not equal racism.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 12,840 ✭✭✭✭aloyisious

I have it in my mind that Trump probably, more than possibly, does see the Democrats running a woman against him as an insult. Look at how he reacted to Obama as a candidate for the presidency calling into doubt Obama's right to run for election, then combine that with Harris being his opponent [which Obama was not] and being black into the bargain. If one was to ask Trump would he prefer to be running against a man or a woman, the answer would probably be a man as Trump is so machismo.

Hate speech includes racism. Any reason why you avoided actually saying it was racist btw?

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 3,992 ✭✭✭ronjo

To be honest Yvonne that statement doesnt come accross to good.

Orange man is an obvious insult…. We all use it (fairly or unfairly) but I dont get the need to say "Woman of colour"

All of this in my humble opinion.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 1,210 ✭✭✭Yvonne007

    Exactly my point.

Talking about Trumps remark and calling it Stupid and Indefensible wasn´t enough.

It was racist because it heavily implied it was Haitians and was based on unconfirmed reports of emergency calls relating to Haitian gangs eating pets.

Hate speech is bullshit and as you and your friends have shown, it can be anything you percieve as hate fuelled.

    Racism is real.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 86,725 ✭✭✭✭Overheal

Hate speech does not equal racism.

I think it's becoming apparent your definition of hate speech is completely different from the accepted standard definitions. Not all hate speech is racism, because hate speech encompasses so many other forms of hate besides race, but racist speech is hate speech.

Anyway you didn't answer the question: what hate speech against Donald Trump are you seeing:

Hate speech is such a silly term.

You engage in hate speech every day against people you disagree with.

You just think that you are sure that your hate is justified.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 1,210 ✭✭✭Yvonne007

No I get that. And that´s fair.

It wasn´t the wisest or most articulate of responses but it would be incredibly ungenerous to consider to call it racist or sexist.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 5,565 ✭✭✭eightieschewbaccy

Honestly this just comes across as you shoehorning any grievance you can. Most people accept that racism is a form of hate speech. The term hate speech encompasses different forms of hate speech since it's not limited to racism.

So now would you say the convicted felon, rapist and openly racist individual that is Donald Trump can be considered a good choice for president? There's a reason why Trump is not liked by most posters here. He's categorically a terrible human being. Kamala Harris would have to do something pretty awful to reach his level. So that's why most think the two are incomparable cause morally it is not a level playing field.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 1,210 ✭✭✭Yvonne007

The man has had multiple assassination attempts against him.

People have said they wish the assassin didn´t miss and would prefer if trump was dead.

    Does that constitute hate speech?

If this was in anyway true, wouldn't he start by making his merchandise in the states?

Its all nonsense. All of it.

The only thing that he cares about is enriching himself.

Look at the debacle of his rally last night. He couldn't give a good God damn about anyone else. Not even his followers.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 1,210 ✭✭✭Yvonne007

I can´t anything you say as honest so no need to preface it.

Hate speech is a nonsense. Its a term to encompass anything that you don´t like hearing.

I have not once defended Trump. But much like the Tate thread, I don´t hate him enough for you, so you see me as a defender.

Shout into the void along with the others.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 1,210 ✭✭✭Yvonne007

Havent seen it thank god. Will probably catch it tonight.

And I agree. Outsourcing to China when you are promoting America First is totally hypocritical.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 5,565 ✭✭✭eightieschewbaccy

I never said anything about you defending Trump so I think you're seeing something that isn't there, I gave you reasons on why he's pretty unpopular for most posters. You're free to declare hate speech as nonsense but it's real.

This approach of getting annoyed with posters who are perfectly respectful with their responses is pretty weird. It's almost like you're the one who wants an echo chamber where nobody challenges anything that you say. 😂

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 29,684 ✭✭✭✭looksee

Which 'people' have said that? Posters on here?

It probably could be construed as hate speech, though I think it would more likely be 'utterly fed up with Trump' speech.

Your definition of hate speech is very odd though, you said 'You engage in hate speech every day against people you disagree with'. In my case, and I think in the case of most people, I can disagree with someone without engaging in hate speech. In fact I think - I hope - I do not engage in hate speech at all. I can be ascerbic and sarcastic, but neither of those are hate speech.

Edit to add, I don't actually hate Donald Trump at all. I find him offensive, dangerous, stupid, dishonest, venal, greedy, irresponsible and many other things, but I don't hate him, I just wish he would be defeated and let everyone get on with their normal lives.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 86,725 ✭✭✭✭Overheal

No. But it is incitement of violence, and I believe in the very few instances I saw of that on the forum those users were sanctioned. But this does not at all get to your line about hate speech happening on a daily basis. We certainly haven't seen the user you directed your allegations at engaged in such speech inciting violence either.

It's odd this is the deflection we're going with while Trump is saying migrants are 'poisoning the blood' of the united states etc., calling him out on this and other words and actions is apparently hate speech to some?

Hate speech is a nonsense. Its a term to encompass anything that you don´t like hearing.

    Yet you stated this:

You engage in hate speech every day against people you disagree with.

So, we are to take it to mean you just saw some speech you disagreed with and it upset you, not actual hate speech?

    Well yes sort of.

Trumps utopian idea that if he slaps massive tariffs on Imports that all these companies will immediately come home and everything will be awesome just doesn't stand up to reality.

It doesn't account for the fact that all these other countries will reciprocate and tariff the hell out of US exports in retaliation leading to US companies not being able to export their goods.

All the while businesses on both sides will struggle to actually change things anytime soon - It's not like they'll be able to close overseas factories and open up US based ones overnight.

So what happens in reality with Trump plan is that Retail prices spike all over the world , demand drops off a cliff and inflation spikes , mass layoffs ensue leading to a massive global recession and all the terrible things that come with that.

Those companies that Trump wants to come home will be going bust as their sales plummet because they can't onshore the manufacturing quickly enough and as Sales drops their ability to afford the costs involved in re-tooling their manufacturing and supply chains becomes more and more difficult making it less and less likely that that can ever bring their business "home".

TL;DR - Trumps Tariff plan if implemented, will in all likelihood lead to a massive and prolonged global recession, which in turn will drive migration from poorer countries to Europe and the US. It will have the exact opposite effect that Trump thinks it will.

It should be noted that this is where Trump got his America First ideas. It should also be noted that trump’s father was associated with this vile despicable group. It is obviously a dog whistle to his base such as they are. What is now certain is that ethics, morals and character are irrelevant to trump’s supporters.

News: it's been certain that ethics, morals and character haven't ever mattered to Convicted Felon Trump or his supporters. Obvious since he first surfaced in the public eye.

I wouldn't class it as hate speech, it's not a nice thing to say, but it's not doing so because of what he is but because of how he chooses to act (remembering trump was cheering on the attacker of Pelosi's husband, which is an awful thing to say but not hate speech). Others opinions on the subject will be different.

Making a statement that immigrants eat pets I would class as hate speech, there was 0 evidence of it and it was purely based on someone being a different ethnicity to him that he made the statement.

People who equivalence class this are dumb idiots who I wouldn't respect in any way at all.
