Looks like a few more global south countries officially applying in the run up to this years summit. A non political, non military group based on encouraging economic advancement with each other.

Those who have officially applied this year in yellow. Looks like Cuba, Nicaragua, Algeria, Nigeria, Senegal, DRC, Belarus, Azerbaijan, Khazakstan, Indonesia, Malaysia and Thailand

BRICSTCNANSDBAKIMT just doesn't have the same ring to it.

Although, if you move the letters around, you can get "ANTI BBC CRANKS MIDST".

Also Turkey. I can't say that I blame them, as repeatedly the EU especially France, has let them know that they don't want them.

    Officially applied to what ?

It is a meaningless, vapid, pseudo-entity.

So you’re not sh1tting brics about this potential economic powerhouse made up of petty dictators and potential basket cases who were meant to take over the world at least a year ago.

Given Turkey's strong trade links with Europe and the Middle East it looks a win win for them. Given it's location it looks like a ideal place for manufacturers to set up in. Boost to the economy, extra jobs, manufacturers happy and European consumers get good priced goods.

Given Turkey is in the Customs Union, if BRICs actually meant anything they wouldn't be able to join it. Literally the only reason they can join it is because it is completely meaningless.

Trumps team are preparing penalties and sanctions for countries who trade in currencies outside of the USD.

Its basically a group of countries who don't want to be lectured by the Five Eyes. I think it's perfectly reasonable.

The petro-dollar is the method by which the USA dominates the world. Create a viable alternative to the petro-dollar and all America has left is a military it can no longer finance. The BRICs is a plan to remove America from the world stage.

Heh just found it funny the neo nazi peddlers refused to be paid in roubles for their propaganda operations and Russians had to resort to laundering money into dollars as per last weeks FBI indictments

In the same week that the C in BRICKS is blocking all bank transfers to R

They can’t even cooperate on the most basic of things, China obviously is not prepared to risk its economy and be cut off from majority of its exports, neither is India and Turkey who want to make best of both worlds, but if ever put in a position of having to choose like China did it won’t go well for Russia and Iran

    https://re-russia.net/review/765/

Russian financial market has reached a state of final abnormality! “Re-Russia” reports:

“The final macro-abnormality: by the end of the summer, American sanctions have cut off the Russian financial market not only from the dollar and the euro but also from the yuan. The idea of the Russian authorities to use the yuan as a surrogate reserve currency instead of the dollar and the euro is collapsing under the influence of American sanctions. Having assured at the beginning of the summer that sanctions against the Moscow Currency Exchange would not change the actual state of affairs on the currency market, the Central Bank is now forced to admit that the Russian currency market is segmented and this circumstance affects macroeconomic conditions.

The restrictions imposed this summer on the Moscow Exchange made the yuan circulating there toxic for most foreign banks, including Chinese ones. Russia has an “internal” yuan, which can be used, for example, to hedge currency risks (because the Central Bank recognizes it), but it is almost useless for foreign economic transactions.

Demand for the "domestic" yuan at trades has slumped, and its exchange rate to the dollar and euro differs from the international one.Meanwhile, the interbank market is experiencing an acute crisis of yuan liquidity. Rates on overnight yuan loans first became double-digit, and then triple-digit. The deficit is structural in nature and is unlikely to be overcome in the near future, market participants warn. In general, there are enough yuan in the financial system, but liquidity is concentrated among large players, and those market participants who do not receive currency from exporters will not have enough of it.

Thus, the Russian financial market has reached a state of final abnormality. The solutions found, such as sending payments to China through intermediaries or using cryptocurrencies, are only temporary crutches that are unable to replace market institutions and procedures that increase costs and create imbalances that are fraught with new problems in the future.”

M-bridge platform passes to advanced stage in testing with BIS, Hong Kong, China, UAE and Thailand. Saudi was added last month as a participant along with 24 observer institutions. It will be 24/7, instant and cheaper than the current system.

Bunch of countries about to find out why letting China dump on your markets like they done to US and Europe is a recipe for a disaster that will boomerang back onto their economies

New applications to join the group of emerging countries include Cuba and Turkey, as well as several Southeast Asian nations.

Is there an international organisation that Turkey won't join? The FOMO is strong with them.

JUst shows how far Brazil has fallen behind led by that idiot Lula. Brazil should already be an advanced country long ago. It has experienced industrialisation and modernity long before most of the other bric contenders but has squandered it again and again usually by leftist corruption and incompetence. It would be more productive for Brazil to be teaming up with its neighbours like Argentina, Chile ,Mexico and Colombia to form their own bloc. They should forget about russia, China and the rest.

Brics is a long term play , if you were to look at the globe in demographic terms they are the future in the next 50 to 100 years and it would be obvious to push for an alternative to the $
