Heard a brief clip ths morning, stumbling over his words about how he runs in parks in London but it's much nicer running here. Something about books [click]

Haha, busted! That Tubridy point is basically a trademark at this stage, you can’t unsee it once you’ve seen it.

My eyes! What have you exposed me to? I could only stomach a few pages but will revisit it for full consumption later. Some of those are quite distasteful - particularly the one of him pointing to Charlie Bird on the Croagh Patrick climb. What on earth was he thinking with his maniacal grin and extended finger point at Bird? It was hardly in keeping with the seriousness of the event.

I had long thought the man was insincere and putting on an act as it were, and that the public persona was playing to an assortment of galleries; and while those pictures encapsulate all of that, they are coupled with a gargantuan lack of self-awareness, but with supreme self-confidence and an enormous ego, along with a palpable desire to always be the centre of attention. They make quite the combo.

How did this man (with all of his “flaws”) hide in plain sight for so long?

Tubs might get some inspiration here.

Dave Chappelle does a routine about Smollett. A lot of the jokes are transferable onto Ryan.

You don't have to be , Tubridy points at everything, it's all he does

impressive you have noticed that. Whenever I have come across a photo of tubs I never had a desire to study it in detail and compare to other photos like it sounds like you do.

    Good for you

He used the word "sick" to describe something that used to be called "cool" when I was hate listening for 5 mins.

Sounds idiotic from a man of his age. Trying to be down with the kids whilst wearing tweed!!!

Down with the kids you say?

    He never stopped.

I recall being in Ballybunion playing golf a few days after his visit. This picture was in the indo at the time, and the image scarred my retinas. The locals were quite excited that Mr. Tubridy had deemed them worthy of a (no doubt sponsored) visit.

Then again this is the county that elected two Healy-Rae’s and Norma Foley in the last General Election so they must have previous little to be worrying about.

When I googled “Ryan Tubridy skateboard” the first link was to an RTE Facebook post wherein Ryan thanks the company who provided him with the skateboard for free. I don’t know whether he requested it or it was an unsolicited gift, but either way, it’s yet another example of Ryan on the take in one form or another.

That's the hilarious thing, Tubs is making money of the obsessive hate listeners / rage social media followers, it must be driving them insane as they dont know how to continue following and obsessing over his every move without enriching him.

Maybe they could set up a secret club and then one of them could take the screenshot of his Instagram posts and share it, this would only count as 1 view. Maybe one of the anoraks could record his radio show and they can all come together on a Saturday and spend the afternoon listening back

I wonder if Mary Lou had appear how that would have gone down, its interesting to see how people take sides. Next week Amy … Amy please she's been off the TV for too long now.

    ______

In the end they were just greedy, they all knew one another and knew what to expect more money for no return, it was a secure cash flow, but in fairness they looked for what they wanted and fair dues to them for that, and wouldn't you be doing the same!

Just one more thing .... when did they return that car

When he announced that he was going to have a rugby star on next, I presumed that it was going to be Jonathan Sexton. Sexton's book is coming out pretty soon. Presumably, he had to pay O'Driscoll to appear on his podcast.

    Communication was the greatest fatality

I don't listen either way, I just think it is bizarre how those who are clear fans of Simon Harris, like yourself, were only to proud to go on about him on Tubs' show but I can imagine the disappointment had Mary Lou appeared. No post about the leader of the opposition had it happened.

@hawley I'd say other than Simon H almost all got some form of appear fee.

But you wouldn't be posting about her appearance either.

Ah! Bob, I am saying if Mary Lou was announced as guest for next weeks show, unlike most people on here, who hounded poor 'aul Simon for being a guest and to poor 'aul Tubs for having him on. You'd not even post on the matter nor would you listen. Isn't that right.

    A compliment.

Given the numbers it doesn’t appear that people are tuning in even for hate listening purposes.

O’Driscoll was a fantastic rugby player, but a great public speaker he is not. I’ve heard him speak quite a few times at corporate gigs and on the after dinner circuit and he’s awfully, awfully bland. He’s afraid to offer even the slightest negative opinion of anyone or any thing in case he upsets any of his myriad of sponsors. He also seems to tell the same stories over and over again. Nice work if you can get it I suppose but he’s just not that interesting in real life. Perhaps he’ll be better in a 1:1 podcast environment, who knows? His autobiography a number of years back was likewise, terribly bland.

You can rest easy though on your allegation of hate listening etc., as I for one won’t be. I do hope you enjoyed Callan’s Kicks again though last week. I hope one day you can forgive your father for forcing you to listen to it.

I do actually believe you on this as you’re more of a Heather Humphries fan to be fair.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 1,692 ✭✭✭Peter Dragon

To be fair most of these things are (as far as I am aware) done for publicity alone. If there was however a fee to be paid, I’m sure it would be Easons who would be left to deal with that.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 1,692 ✭✭✭Peter Dragon

It is a strange choice given Sexton’s book is out this week (I think?) and O’Driscoll’s memoir is a decade* old at this stage, but I assume it’s a case of beggars can’t be choosers.

Who knows? Even Bobson might get on yet! If you do get around to publishing your autobiography (or was it fiction?), perhaps you’ll make an episode of Season 3 or beyond and discuss your self-proclaimed literary “flare”.

*I know this as it was bought for me the night before I departed to a particularly memorable (for all the wrong reasons) work conference in the US in 2014. I read the book on the flight. As noted in an earlier post it was terribly bland, that I do remember.

Not from me he’s not, and I suspect many others here. I don’t follow him on Instagram as I’m not on Instagram to start with. I haven’t watched a second of the podcast on YouTube nor listened to it on any platform. I do of course read, but apart from perhaps Brian Cox none of the guests so far would have been particularly appealing - and that’s before we talk about the interview style of the host - discussed many times on various fora and it’s just not for me. I also have a pile of books at home and in my parental home that I have on my list to complete before I venture further afield so why would I engage? 🤷‍♂️

It is perfectly possible to observe the travails of The Exiled One in a manner which doesn’t enrich him you know.

I’m not angry at all, why would you think that? Projection perhaps?

I find the thread - and you - rather amusing tbh, and amusement doesn’t make one angry.

As for you getting under my skin, not at all. As above, I find your postings rather amusing, bordering on hysterical at times. I assume your posts are in jest and tongue in cheek and read them as such. I mean, I at least hope they are……

The hypocrisy of your Callan’s Kicks takes gave the game away though, that was your mistake. You can’t deride posters here for hate listening and criticising the host and keep a straight face while you do the exact same thing with Callan and his output. Up until then I genuinely thought “this guy is serious”.

Why would one need to listen to Tubs or look at his Instagram when the "highlights" are all here?
