Southern Gaels are missing Joe Crowe too who you would expect to be one of their better players as he was only 16 but on the county minor panel this year.

I've absolutely no pity for that man. A blight on cavan football for years attacking local journalists, volunteers and set up a page on Facebook once to try run Terry Hyland out of his job. He runs onto a pitch where he has no business being, to abuse McCabe I presume. He can have no complaints. As to suspending gowna players, I doubt there's a rule in the rule book about not assaulting pitch invaders. I've been hot at manys a game but never went onto a pitch as a spectator like that. He should be getting a long ban from the GAA.

The Railway Cup is on next weekend in Croke Park to trial the new rules. Players who exited the Club Championship are involved. Are Faulkner or Oisin Brady with the panel?

Is his Facebook page gone now? He did well to get update it twice from A&E yesterday, first one slagging off McCabe (deleted not long afterwards) was up within a few minutes of the final whistle.

Looks to be gone alright. Yeah, claims to be injured but got a video of kids on a bus up. Then he limited comments and deleted replies after people called him out. Same on his 'apology' post. Near everyone went at him, so he must have called quits on the page. Is this going to end up a Gardai matter? Serious question…

Whilst the reactions are dreadful, and they are, there is one person who instigated the whole thing. I'm no fan of McCabe but he comes out of the aftermath quite well. He shakes hands, he corrals someone from the ref and then is followed by someone who looks like he stumbled out of a pub at closing, in his face and then begins shouldering him. I can see why players were raging with that but there's zero excuse for throwing the boot into someone on the ground.

That's a good question, the fact that the whole thing was on Cavstream might have an impact.

There doesn't seem to be much force in the kick in fairness i'm not codoning kicking someone but it was harmless.

In fairness to Madden, it's a mess of bodies and he is being jostled. I don't think there's anything very clear cut on the video to say that he threw a boot into the lad on the ground. Was he happy enough to stand on his leg? Probably.

McCabe indeed comes out of it looking like the lone adult. Stops his fellow mentors and players going after the ref and walks away in the face of physical provocation.

Regret probably setting in with the lad who started it. While he crossed the line, he didn't raise his hands and the few digs he got are probably punishment enough.

The fact he claims he had to go to hospital, then deleted the page might suggest there's been contact and he's closing down things his end so as not to spread things. I wouldn't be surprised if there's action

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 228 ✭✭tazman06

The lad who started this wouldn't have the brain power to have regret. You should have a look down his twitter profile too, he's gone to the right and is now a 'patriot' according to himself. He's always been full of himself

There'll be a big statement from him soon enough I'd say

He probably will need a bit of watching in the next while all the same, I'd say he'll not be in great shape after that

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 473 ✭✭mylestheslasher

Why am I not surprised. He will probably up as a candidate for the Irish Freedom Party next. Anyway on the game, I was half expecting that Gowna would come good in the end and were timing their run for a good crack at Ulster but I was ignoring the signs of poor performances throughout the championship.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 1,349 ✭✭✭rrs

A little tap of the boot. He wouldn't have been able to get up straight away if there was force . A pity there is much chat on the game.

Exactly it was a hell of a game. Two teams going at it. Some brilliant scores and these two teams when they meet never fail to disappoint but Ramor are Gownas bogey team

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 166 ✭✭etuzyuk

Makings of a tight low scoring final. Crosserlough took some shocking options at times and looked very suspect second half against a very poor Gaels but at the same time no bad way to arrive into a county final.

Ramor were excellent defensively against a very dangerous Gowna. McCabe's men had some bad wides and will be disappointed with themselves but at the same time credit must be given to Ramor's defenders. Took their goal chances brilliantly too.

Refereeing performance was acceptable. Might have been some calls left people sore but absolutely no call for abuse and chasing of ref from mentors on the sideline REGARDLESS of what he did with the whistle. And as for that other carry on. GAA and fans have to get real. Absolutely disgraceful scenes. Regardless of who is who, or where someone should or shouldn't be, players attacking supporters and then piling in on them when prone on the ground, laying the boot in etc. There are no excuses. McGregor fans might think this is ok or comeuppance but in GAA, in a showpiece semi final under the main stand! I'd have absolutely no sympathy for anyone involved and book should be thrown at all of them. Tail wagging the dog with all the BS excuses people use for trampish behaviour.

Easily the best senior club game I've seen this year, but that's not saying much :) Intermediate game afterwards was also decent. Ramor vs the Lough should be an interesting one, hopefully it's a cracker.

It certainly appears he is gearing up for an action given his post and advising of his location and injuries.

The page may have been taken down because he stuck up a video of a load of kids on what appeared to be a supporters bus, possibly arranged by the club. I know parents certainly wouldn’t be happy with a video showing their child being associated with what went on yesterday.

He may also have been advised to take the page down by his legal advisors, it was removed by reports etc.

Could be a multitude of reasons but hopefully it doesn’t come back.

Players didnt attack supporters. A supporter ran onto the field and attacked a manager and the players reacted to that. Its disengenious how you are describing the event. Spectators are not allowed enter the field. If a player was up in the stand fighting a supporter I would be fully agreeing with you, but thats not what happened.

Players absolutely attacked supporter. You say that's disingenuous to say that but at the same time you say he attacked McCabe and the players only reacted. Absolute BS.

I don't condone his behaviour in any way. GAA need to clamp down on this BS. Ban him by all means for confronting a manager on field at end of game but players have absolutely no business getting involved. He was punched in the back of the head by players and then kicked and punched multiple times on the ground. That is a fact, that is what I saw at the time and there are multiple videos doing the rounds showing exactly this.

That is escalating behaviour no matter what way you spin it and book should be thrown at them. Same way mentors getting involved with players escalates things or subs getting involved. McCabe was in absolutely no danger and if you think players had the right to do what they did then family members of that fool would have absolutely every right to come out on the pitch to protect him. A line was crossed. Pretending it wasn't is not a solution. All involved should be ashamed and there is no defending it.

Odd that in your post you direct most of your condemnation at the players and the least at the guy who started the whole thing. We will have to agree to differ.

    "Confronting a manager"..... Hmmmm.

I suppose by that logic Madden confronted a spectator.

You can't start a row and then cry when it's escalated. The line was crossed when someone who had no business on the field of play started the whole thing. Who started this matters.

If you hit someone in the stand it's assault. The rules on the field are different and if you go on the field you are assuming a level of risk that goes beyond the rules of the game. Players have just spent an hour knocking lumps off each other. They are held to a different standard. He got pushed, grabbed and stood on. Was it pretty? No. Was it predictable after the initial incitement? Absolutely.

A good lesson for all overly zealous patrons. If you enter the field of play, you are putting yourself at the same physical risk as the players. No further action required.

There was one put up last night on his page that has been taken down. Screenshot of it doing the rounds on WhatsApp.

He alleges he was sitting in Drogheda waiting on further scans and an operation and mentions court.

James Bradley seems to be playing regularly under the Tyrone men. He was always a good player but was used from the bench under other managers. Simon Cadden not in the picture this year. It should be a interesting final.

I presume Crosserlough will wear the white kit. Black and Amber and yellow and black are too similar

    Hi all,

Any date set yet for the intermediate and senior finals? Will they be a double header?

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 1,325 ✭✭✭baconsarnie

Last few years the junior and intermediate have been on the same weekend, with the junior on a Saturday and the intermediate the Sunday and the senior the following week. I can't imagine anything different, let's be honest separate finals is likely to be a better draw for revenue on the gate.

EDIT: fixtures up on the new Cavan GAA website:

    Junior final Saturday 12th 6pm

    Intermediate Sunday 13th 4pm

    Senior Sunday 20th 4pm

Where have I not condemned the supporter. But he was not guilty of violent assualt, the players were.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 166 ✭✭etuzyuk

Idiotic post. Give your head a shake lad. McCabe was confronted by a nut job, all verbals. He was then violently assaulted by players.

Saying common assault is ok or different on the field and is acceptable or to be expected once on the field is idiotic. Big difference between physical play between players and off the ball assault. Plenty of lads have been in court and narrowly avoided jail for it.

Having the junior as a double bill with get more neutral support. With 3 finals on different days, lots won't bother going to all 3.
