should Quake 3 work on any high spec machine, or do I need to check I've a good enough graphics card? 2.2GHz Celeron 256 MB RAM. No idea what my graphics card is.

ya on a nice machine like that even if you have no good gfx card it would be fine for q3. If theres a problem with the frames per second you can lower the detail in setup menu to make it smoother.
