If you had sons of your own in the IDF you might think differently. You seem to treat this like its a game.

no harm for the Israelis to get a bit of their own medicine , they have no problem killing all around them … best of luck to anyone fighting Israel

It should come as no surprise to anyone that American policy is chock full of double standards. It always has been. They won't "confront Israel" if there is nothing in it for them and so far there's nothing really in it for them. Israel will continue to push the boundaries of acceptable behaviour until they push it too far.

Well it's easy to be gung ho for war when you are thousands of miles away in Ireland. He might think differently if he had direct experience of it like the former defense force member that was interviewed in the Sunday Independent at the weekend. It's a good read by the way

They maybe pushing it too far now. We have seen reports American officials are very frustrated with them at present. A wider war couldn't threaten American interests.

He is for the birds so. Anyone that deluded is either dishonest with himself or dumb.

What are they doing in the Hyacinth House?

Looks like the Israeli's are downplaying the missile attack by Iran in terms of damaged caused. It appears Iran endeavoured to only hit military targets unlike the Israeli's. It does appear that their shipping casualties in trying to invade Lebanon.

Despite any pleas from America I expect Israel to retaliate which will prompt Iran to strike civilian infrastructure. Israel may eliminate key Hezbollah and Hamas figures but it won't defeat these movements. Hard to see how Israel as a country survives in it's current guise.

It's this kind of fantastical thinking that has led to never ending conflicts the world over but in the middle east specifically.

They are not dealing with Hamas or Hezbollah or any other group you choose to name. They are just creating a new generation of even more motivated people with justifiable grievances against a country which has run roughshod over them, over international law and treat even their supposed allies like shìt on their shoe.

How anyone that has lived long enough to see the struggles of nationalists in the north, the internment, collusion in killings and yet side with someone like the Israelis where they make what the British did in the north look like a childhood scuffle is just baffling.

Also he may think differently if he witnessed 18 members of his family killed same day.

Israel admits that only two civilians were lightly injured by last night's missile attack by Iran. What's with the 'existential threat to Israel's very existence' nonsense?

Here's another alternative, and it may not be practical or impossible, but how about the zionists stop being such arrogant pricks to their neighbours all the time.

Oct. 7th would not have happened had they not be up to their continuous shenanigans. They would have gotten their hostages back alive had they continued the negotiations at the end of last year. They blamed Hamas for breaking the ceasefire, Hamas blamed the zionists. Even if it was the former, they would have surely been better off turning a blind eye to the blame game for another few days til they got more of their people back. But…..arrogance…..

For one thing, the fictional genocide of a population (Palestinians) that is growing in leaps and bounds.

I'm not sure about the equivalence you're drawing between Russia and Israel. We know that not only are Russia and Iran allies (to the point where Iran is a key weapons supplier to both Russia and terrorists against Israel) but that there have been extensive contacts between Russia and Iran's other allies.

The Russo-Iranian axis has made it clear that its fight with Ukraine and its people is a fight to the death, as have Iran and its other proxies made it clear that their fight with Israel and its people is also a fight to the death.

And one thing about fights to the death is that they are very simple - you're on one side or the other. And the Left have made it very clear that they are on the side of Israel's mortal enemies by chanting "From the River to the Sea" while calling for BDS just against Israel.

My position on both the Russo-Iranian war on Ukraine and the calls/actions for the destruction of Israel and its 7 million Jews is clear and consistent - I am firmly against both. What I don't understand is how one can be for Ukraine but against Israel, or vice-versa, when both are fighting the same war against almost identical enemies.

The US might have a bad conscience because it refused 900 Jews, who were fleeing the Nazis, entry in 1939 when they refused the ship St. Louis permission to dock in Florida. The ship was also refused permission to dock in Cuba and Canada. Some of them were allowed entry to European countries but many returned to Germany and their deaths in the Holocaust. As Israel is now recognised as their home maybe the US owes them a debt.

I always wonder how the Israelis could know where the Hezbollah leaders were, even to a particular room in a house, yet can't find a hostage in Gaza?? It's as if they don't want to fins them.

Far simpler Seanw to see Israel and Russia as guilty parties who invade the lands of others. Very similar in method and response. Putin very similar to Bibi too. People don't like invaders and bullies especially those who target mainly women and children.

You can indeed support Palestine and Ukraine.

Nobody is trying to annihilate Russia or calling for the entire country and its people to be wiped out. (Or Iran for that matter, just its crazy and evil government).

Israel on the other hand, like Ukraine, is facing this very issue. And like I said, with a fight to the death its very simple to figure out where you stand. It's even simpler when you realise that the aggressors in both cases are allies working hand-in-glove with each other.

If the Iranian regime falls, Putin falls after.

If Israel falls, Ukraine and a lot more will fall after

Nah. Israel does not want peace. It would be much better off seeking it though but then it would have to stop stealing land in the WB and interning innocent children for years without trial. Nothing like being sanctioned numerous times and condemned by the ICJ to show them up for what they are. Very very similar to Russia in the tactics they use too.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 9,421 ✭✭✭SeanW

But there are those on the Right saying much the same about Ukraine - i.e. that they don't want peace, should "negotiate" with Putler, and should give up land that's rightfully Russian. Propaganda shills for Moscow also make broad accusations against Ukraine that it's full of Nazis and that it was violating the rights of Russian speakers, had NATO biolabs and more nonsense. And of course this is nonsense because Moscow has made it clear it will settle for nothing other than the complete destruction and conquest of Ukraine.

I do not understand either the Left's, or the MAGA Right's position on this matter.

As far as I am concerned, both Israel and Ukraine are fighting the same war against the same enemy, just on different fronts. And I don't give a fiddlers curse what either of them have to do to make their mortal enemies go away. If either - or both - decide they have to take the proverbial gloves off, so be it.

It's not strictly got to do with just Israel but looking at the US , Europe and the wider world we seem ,imo , to be experiencing a rise in the ultra right unseen since the 1930's . BN has to be stopped now

There is no equivalency between Israel and Ukraine. Ukraine are defending themselves against a neighbouring country led by a war criminal that is invading them and committing attrocities.

Israel is a country led by a war criminal that is invading neighbouring countries and committing atrocities on a scale that far surpasses the absolute worst of what Russia has done.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 13,738 ✭✭✭✭kowloon

I was under the impression Israel gets along fine with Russia. There are no sanctions, even on military exports, and no arms sent to help Ukraine.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 393 ✭✭meepins

Amazing, someone on these forums understands that these conflicts are for Jewish hegemony.

And I don't give a fiddlers curse what either of them have to do to make their mortal enemies go away. If either - or both - decide they have to take the proverbial gloves off, so be it.

This kind of rhetoric is all too familiar. I know exactly who thinks and talks this way.

Probably because a huge chunk of Israelis are Russian nationals or children of Russian immigrants.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 17,617 ✭✭✭✭nacho libre

This red herring about a population growing meaning genocide can't be taking place has been debunked many times. Yet here you are repeating the same fallacy again.

Yet more insincerity from you, you know perfectly well the parallel that I am drawing- you condemn Russian war crimes but go out of your way to outright deny or excuse Israeli war crimes. Also Russia and Israel are both occupiers. You are against one occupier but firmly support the other occupier. Your hypocrisy and cognitive dissonance is astounding.

Putin won't fall, unless the Chinese abandon Russia. Israel isn't going to "fall". A heavily armed nuclear state with one of the strongest armies in the world , who just happen to be backed up by a super power is not going to "fall". You know this already but you are back to repeating this falsehood again. The only conclusion to be drawn is that you are being disingenous for some reason.

I don't think it has anything to do with that Tayto, TBH. It's more to do with America's interests in the Middle East in a possible future scenario involving direct US activity than something that happened over 80 years ago. They want the Jews to be their hard man over there and are willing to look the other way when they get up to appalling and wanton murder, spoliation, colonisation of their neighbours.

The US, as a political entity, doesn't have a conscience. It operates on a purely practical & self motivated level rather than a conscientious one. Otherwise it wouldn't have lent support to some of the most vile people and regimes as it has.

It's a really warped mind that will try and draw an equivalency with Israel and the Ukraine.

    SMH.

Funnily enough, Israel has just attacked a Russian air base in Syria.

Probably because it realised that there are other countries in the world it hasn’t tried to fight yet.

To say that Israel is committing atrocities far beyond the "absolute worst" Russia has done is a bit much.

You can absolutely have the opinion that both sides are committing atrocities, but don't downplay the atrocities Russia has carried out and is carrying out.

It's not a championship. Russia deliberately targets civilians, hits urban areas with artillery and ballistic missiles without even pretending to be striking military targets, engages in ethnic cleansing, systematic murder of POWs, kidnap/rape/torture, etc.

The civilian dead in Ukraine would be far, far higher only for the fact that Ukraine has a decent air defense system, which obviously Gaza and Southern Lebanon do not have….but it's certainly not from want of trying by Russia.

So equate them by all means, but don't downplay what Russia is doing.
