Yep, they would certainly come to regret attacking Turkey in so many ways.

The US can quickly mobilise its airforce to try to shoot down any missile incoming towards Israel ….. but don't appear to be able to do it on any of the many missiles leaving Israel and fired at other countries.

I'd say they'd be confident/arrogant that they wouldn't be attacked in response by the other members. If Israel attacked Turkey, and Turkey fired back, would the US uphold their NATO pledges, or would they shoot down the Turkish missiles?

US warning of severe consequences if Iran launches an attack. Meanwhile Israel can blow up thousands of kids and its serious consequences are billions of dollars in weapons from the US. US has lost serious credibility over this past year.

Most Jewish people are now applying for American citizeship as a preference over Israeli citizenship. They only then apply to Israel as a backstop and because they automatically can.

Jewish people neither feel safe or welcome in the country Israel has become. It's a failing project.

I was talking to an academic years ago who told me about the sway the American Bible Belt has in middle America . Sure the East and West coasts are multi ethnic with loads of people who came from Europe and Asia but in between is a basket case

Remind me, what were the severe consequences when Iran launched missiles at Israel back in April?

"if you get on the wrong train, get off at the nearest station, the longer it takes you to get off, the more expensive the return trip will be."

I'd imagine any Iranian 'attack' will be for internal consumption purposes in Iran rather than to inflict real damage inside Israel, same as last time.

Ideally Iran would swiftly defeat Israel and eliminate Netanyahu to end this madness but I think the threat of a US response would see them limited to token strikes only.

It's hard not to be fearful on the scale this conflict will take as the Israeli thirst for blood will only be limited by where the US place their red line for support which currently appears not to exist.

Using anything, WP or not, against a civilian population is a war crime.

However, using WP within a civilian area is not a war crime, unless it can be shown that (1) the civilian population were the object of the attack, (2) the use was inappropriate given the target (or in the case of a smokescreen or marking mission, given the intended effect), or (3) that the munition was air delivered. None of those factors can be shown from this photograph.

A lot of the objections by human rights organizations tend to miss the subtleties and just go 'WP bad.' Which given their intent is understandable, as a civilian caught up in it is going to suffer. Not that they won't suffer if they're close to a 1,000lb bomb going off, but humans have an innate fear of burning. Still, the laws are the laws.

This is not saying that Israel are always adhering to the laws. But photographs like that are not evidence that they are not.

Bar smoke screens or burning scrub on a mountain, it isn't really much use for anything.

Handy for setting fire to logistical areas (Think fuel/ammo dumps, for example) or forcing defenders out of cover. Was famously used for the latter purpose by the US in Iraq in Fallujah. Interestingly, the US artillery manual also suggests the use of WP against vehicles like tanks in the absence of anti-armor munitions, trying to set fire to air intake filters and the like and thus disabling them. Kindof like a long-range molotov cocktail.

The first shot is free, and quite a few since as well by Iranian directed forces.

Israel has decided that asking repeatedly or graded responses don't register with the lunatics it is fighting..

I think one missile now will be treated the same as 500 ballistic missiles, Iran is long past declaring war and needs to be stood up to.

Mossad commentary, not Mossad but someone who has informal links to them, used by them to get a point out before, shared a post with a video of Irans main power station, nice in the middle of nowhere target in response to an attack.

Israel is no longer playing and can't afford to so I would say that a severe targeting of infrastructure, especially the nuclear infrastructure would be on the cards.

An attack from which the Mullahs would be lucky to survive, revenge for all the women they have mutilated, raped and killed recently.

Iran is an amazing country, with an amazing people but a qtr are fanatics

any iranian attack on israel will surely be very limited given US elections are only a month away

Iran aren't stupid, even if they were able to launch any meaningful response they wouldn't because they no the consequences.

They're happy to sit back and let their proxies take the hammering, putting themselves in the firing line aint their style.

Apparently Iran has notified the US of the scope, scale and timing of their 'attack'. Exact same as last time so. Puffing up the chest and beating hard but mainly for show.

Iran "swiftly defeating" Israel is beyond far fetched. Israel is militarily vastly superior to Iran and it'd have to cross several countries to even reach Israel.

Obviously Iran can cause some damage to Israel via missiles and drones, but a "swift defeat" or any sort of remotely favorable outcome in a war is complete fantasy stuff.

How Israel responds to this latest attack is the key.

It will hardly encourage more by letting this slide, ultimately Oct 7th started in Tehran and the end of it is in Tehran .

Ah hang on now. Israel are a shower of genocidal pr1cks, but the Iranians are hardly any better

All eyes on Kursk. Slava Ukraini.

I would go so far as to say that there is something problematic about the whole region.

Looks like it may have started. 12 minutes is the average flight time to Tel Aviv for an 'ordinary' ballistic missile from Iran apparently so if it has started we'll know quickly.

Some form of rockets or missiles over the skies of Tel Aviv.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 25,222 ✭✭✭✭Kermit.de.frog

It's confirmed now in the media by the IDF. Missiles inbound.

Theres a good article on newstatesman.com about Israel s war on Hezbollah it says the invasion could be very costly in terms of casualties there's no guarantee they can stop missile attacks on border areas Hezbollah has 1000s or well armed troops when are experienced in conflict

As casualties mount up Israel risks losing support from western country's and America at some point American politics might lose patience
