Agreed, I loved most of GOW 2018, but I couldn't finish Ragnarok!

Steven Spielberg confirms he doesn't use console peasant noob pads.

Well, after ET on console, what do you expect ?

The ps5 30th anniversary is crazy though.

You can see sold items have gone for over 5k and there's a ton that sold already. Weird to think I could literally sell my preorder for thousands.

A friend of mine who works a decent job failed to get one and begged me to sell for 2k. I could even keep the extras as he already bought a 30th controller. He just wanted the console. I laughed and said he could buy it for that and sell it for double the next day.

Obviously he wouldn't and I wouldn't sell it either but thought that funny.

Now I'll be using mine but the resale value will be good enough to get a PS6 and that'll be enough for me.

Different tastes / priorities and all that, but the idea of spending four figure sums (double or more what it’s actually worth at retail) on a console because it’s in a different colour scheme is getting into pure tulip mania territory.

It's not just a colour scheme, the 30th anniversary PS5 is and will be a piece of history, all the other base PS5 models will go down in value in decades to come, the 30th anniversary will only go up and stay up. It's an investment and a pretty good one. I'd easily have spent another 300 over the base PS5 pro but they were gone before I even had a chance to look.

That being said the retail price is all I'd pay for it, but scalpers will win in the end with something like this

  • Moderators, Category Moderators, Arts Moderators, Computer Games Moderators, Entertainment Moderators Posts: 31,113 CMod ✭✭✭✭johnny_ultimate

It’s still just a colour scheme.

At retail price, fair enough - still too expensive for the package IMO (it’s basically forcing people to buy an expensive Edge controller), but it looks nice and it’s not pricier than just buying the standard versions. But paying double, triple or more for it as an ‘investment’ or worse for actual every day use… that’s just being silly and being caught up in the hype cycle.

This is the second time Sony has annoyed me in a few weeks. First, the price of the Pro. Now, I really liked the look of the 30th-anniversary edition, but they've decided to only make 12,000+ of them. This kind of scarcity just encourages scalpers and other bad practices

At least Astro Bot makes up for it

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 8,370 ✭✭✭Grumpypants

Since they sell them through PS direct they could easily have people log into their ps account and have a one per person policy.

But they kinda don't care because all the noise around it selling out takes away from the negativity around the price.

If anything it a good indicator that they could charge more for these limited editions and then have the "normal" version be the "cheaper" (but still expensive) version.

The ps5 pro classic is basically this:

    mailbu-stacy-episode-image.png

And I have to hand it to Sony. There was a nanosecond where we were all angry about the PS5 pro price and now all anyone is talking about is the classic sku. They kind of did the same with charging for PSN, throw Xbox under the bus so much that they just casually drop it while everyone is too busy on the hate bandwagon.

Well they're getting all ye talking about it online so effective advertising completed! We won't mention the rumoured price of the upcoming 5090 is gonna be over €2k... pc ftw and all that... (that's not an invitation to explain to me why 2k on pc is acceptable)

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 29,945 ✭✭✭✭TitianGerm

In fairness a 5090 would be used in the vast majority in work applications rather than for gaming.

Those halo cards usually make up less than 10% of sales and it will make a mockery of the PS5 pro. You want to be comparing the cost of the budget cards that will match the power of the PS5 pro as those will be the big sellers.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 14,770 ✭✭✭✭Potential-Monke

I said it wasn't an invitation. There's no talking to pc heads.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 8,657 ✭✭✭Mr Crispy

Oh **** off with "it's not an invitation". Nobody needs your permission to respond to points they disagree with.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 14,770 ✭✭✭✭Potential-Monke

Settle down petal. Just like I don't have to respond. I just didn't want to get into the same tired conversation where pc heads tell us why pcs are better for everyone while shyting over what will be the most powerful console available at the time it's released, blind to the fact that more than enough people don't like/want to game on pc.

I'll leave it at that. You seem a tad annoyed at a few words for some reason.

Finished God of War 2018 main game. Beautiful looking and super polished but all a bit underwhelming.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 8,370 ✭✭✭Grumpypants

As digital foundry have pointed out an equivalent graphics card is the 4070. That's €634 on Amazon. So if you can get a processor, motherboard, ram, hard drive, cooler, power supply and a PS5 controller for €150 then you can be happy in the knowledge you have machine that can't play any of your playstation games.

I wish Xbox released a upgraded console. I'd happily pay a grand for it. Saying that I spent over a grand on my 7900 XTX that I don't play with and then a grand as well for my previous 6900 XT that also seen very little action and a 5700 XT before that and I could keep going on about graphics cards I owned but the cards I didn't mention were bought used those three cards I mentioned were bought brand new.

Completed Plucky Squire. Really enjoyed it. Very easy but good to play something original. Started TLOU Part 1. Amazing visuals and looking forward to playing through the story again.

Playing HL Alyx, Dungeons Of Eternity and Walkabout Mini Golf Mars in VR. Dungeons Of Eternity surprised me. The weapon setup and varied gameplay is excellent. Tried Starwave. Very underwhelming. Its no Pistol Whip. Looking forward to Behemoth.

Haven't played anything as good as It Takes Two for couch co-op. Always on the look out for good games to play with my son.

Nah, you're in the wrong here. You spout nonsense expect to get called out on it. You aren't immune because you said so.

    Leave it at that.

Started playing Uncharted The Lost Legacy on PS5. I love how the Naughty Dog games are so uncluttered, display, gameplay and controls wise, compared to the artificial complexity in other games. Sure looks lovely in HDR and high frame rates. They do escape sequences really well. The first level has you running and sliding across rooftops, and down ropes with lights on them that pop, in the pouring rain, with excellent music and sound effects. Also, the dialogue is snappy and spot on. Then straight into the jungle searching for some McGuffin. Also I much prefer looking at Chloe and Nadine than Nathan Drake and his chumps any day too. 😁 It's a lot of fun.

What a breath of fresh air after the turgid, depressing, brutal, God of War. Plus I know it's a short game and not going to suck the life out of me.

Started Resident Evil 7 today. I'm really late to the party on this one but it's so good. Finished the first two sections. I love how messy and scrappy the boss fights are. Not sure why I left this one so long to play.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 13,115 ✭✭✭✭Jordan 199

Yes, it's very good. I got a copy of it when I got my PSVR headset. I played a little bit of it in VR but the tension got too much.

Resi 7 is good but has the classic Resi problem of having a killer first half and a ho-hum second.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 9,586 ✭✭✭SuperBowserWorld

Tried RE4 on Wii but I couldn't get past the muddy graphics. Waiting for RE4 remake to drop below 20 quid physical on PS5 and then I'll get it. Think I'll leave it at RE4 only as these games freak me out. I can't imagine what they are like in VR.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2, Paid Member Posts: 7,319 ✭✭✭jj880

The standalone RE4 on Quest is excellent. Non stop action and the weapon play is tight. The old style graphics make it like a classic arcade game and with VR controls juggling, flicking between weapons its so addictive. Minimal gathering / crafting so you can pick it up any time and get straight into it.

You should stick with it. It's an absolute classic and one of the best paced games of all time.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 2,674 ✭✭✭recyclops

It's also one that didn't require a remake and probably plays better than the remake, RE4 VR is a great ad for how immersive VR can be. Loved it from start to finish.

The resident evil VR is top class. Village and 4 get the boost of PSVR2 so are even better. Even just doing the shooting range in 8 and seeing the reloading of weapons is really well done.

I couldn't finish 7 in VR it got too scary 😳.
