Energypal is telling me a smart plan is best for me. Register for ESB networks, export your usage report and put it into energypal.ie. My contract with BG is out on Friday, so I'll change next week.

    Hi Guys,

Switched from Bord Gais to Energia. Two week process to be totally moved.

With my usage figures, the best dual fuel deal I got was energia 32% off both Gas & electric

Rates are 0.0766 (Gas) & .2489 (Elec) Inc VAT

For me, this offer was cheaper than the Certa offer (certa elec unit price is cheaper ( I use more gas, that is why it was better for me. So if you use more Electric than gas, then Certa maybe for you)

Note : This offer is for non-smart meters. Not sure if you still qualify if you have a smart meter but remain on MCC01.

To get the offer, click on the filter and select Dual fuel to get 32% offer

My SSE plan expired yesterdday. Offering me online the same 10% rate new duel fuel customers get but no €300 cashback.

Anyone been able to get a better renewal offer by ringing or will they contact me now I'm out of contract?

That's a smidge better than my current Black Friday BGE dual fuel rates.
I'll be keeping an eye on that one when it come to the end of my 12 months

There is a smart day night with 29% discount so 8c gas approx 26 day / 28 peak / 14 cent night rate electric.

As usual depends on what you use, 11,000kWh gas and only 2,000kWh electricity for me. Needless to say gas is more important than leccie here.

Rang SSE Airtricity. Got 2 offers:

Same Duel Fuel 10% rate as new customers but only 50 cashback rather than 300: 29.98c E, 9.28c G

Or Fixed Rate: Same Gas a new customers 8.28c, worse Electric rate 24.58c vs 23.53 new customers

Very poor offers and no budging to lower rates. Zero incentive given to keep me

    Hi,

Similar to others will be changing supplier in Oct for Electricity from BG as the discount offered is 24% and €50 credit. Am I correct that the switching sites are not including the €101 extra charges allowed by our "great" regulator from Nov 1st which can be added to the current standing charges which the ESB are absorbing for now?

There are slight differences in the standing charges currently but an increase on approx €100 euro from Nov1st is substantial.

Were you able to download the whole years data from ESB? I can only get 6mts worth.

Haven't been on this thread in around a year and around 3k posts since but will go back through a few pages at some stage this week.

Just looking for some advise with contract up on 27 September with Electric Ireland 18% discount dual fuel. On standard 24 hour meter urban.

Current Rates Gas 9.84 incl VAT Standing Charge 155.98 incl VAT Electricity 29.39 incl VAT Standing Charge 250.77 incl VAT

Been offered to renew 8.64 incl VAT gas and 25.80 incl VAT Electricity and from 01st Nov goes to 8.38 incl VAT and 25.02 incl VAT.

Usage for year is 5,415 units with gas and 3,744 with electricity.

I looked on bonkers and seems Flo Gas Team Ireland with 300 cashback is my best option.

Does anyone have any options and advise on this and would you think other companies might reduce prices shortly?

    Thanks

My BG plan (Smart EV plan) expires Oct 4th. Best offer on BG web site to renew is shown below plus a €50 bonus. Based on energypal.ie and actual usage there are def better plans for me (BG new customer offers, electric Ireland home electric plus or SSE smart fixed rates). I will keep checking the BG web site…

If I remain with BG is an additional 5% loyalty bonus off electricity and gas, as I’ve hit 12 mos., an additional bonus or factored already into the 25% and 19%?

Do you usually wait till after your contract expires to switch, with a new plan date retroactive back to the day your previous contract ended?

Switch to Energia finally done over phone. As you said they're moving us to a day/night plan for 2 weeks before changing to the EV smart plan. Got €50 extra credit as well. Tho maybe they give everyone that.

Hey thanks a lot for this, I used your post as leverage to get from an 18% existing customer discount, to a 29% discount! They said it's the best they can do for existing customers. This was going to a smart plan which would mean I'd never be able to return to a legacy plan. I queried any legacy plans and they had one offering a 30% discount, but it was slightly higher rates on electricity so 30% worked out slightly more expensive!

    Smart 29% discount:
E: 25.47 (can't remember exactly but around that)
    G: 0.799

    Legacy 30% discount:
    E: 26.66
    G: 7.88

I actually figured out after the call, that the cent saving of the E Smart rate will work out cheaper overall based on usage, but I had read posts here of great hesitation to switching to a smart plan and not being able to switch back so got scared and just agreed to the more expensive legacy plan.

I switched from BGE. They offered me 23%. They just sent an email offering 25% of any plan if I cancel my switch.

I'm not going to but just thought I'd mention it.

Any issues with signing up in a partners name to get the new customer discount as I'm coming up on 12 months now ?

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2, Paid Member Posts: 8,675 ✭✭✭ongarite

Won’t work. Accounts are tied to the meter unique number, MPRN, not name on account

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 10,353 ✭✭✭✭CoBo55

Who did you switch to? What rates are you getting from them?

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 1,950 ✭✭✭bittihuduga

    how does this work?

we switch from BGE once contract expires to EI fo example.

BGE calls us to move back and if the offer is good, we just ring EI to cancel within the 14 day grace period?

do we go back to BGE without much problem?

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 5,330 ✭✭✭Daith

Well I can't guarantee you won't have a problem, but yes that's all you need to do. You normally have a 14 day cooling off period so should be fine

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 4,704 ✭✭✭Deep Thought

I don’t entertain them, they could have offered it to keep you but chose not to.

    Just move

I did send them an email saying they should have just offered the discount before my contract is up, not that it would do much

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 1,950 ✭✭✭bittihuduga

i uploaded my hdf to energypal. i currently have BGE smart - saturday free plan with 25%. my new offer is 15% off.

SSE offer on energypal is 806. BGE price is 812. so just 6 euros savings for my usage.

i noticed 50euro cash back on bge account page. not sure if its for dual plan or do i still get it for electricity only.

if i get 50euro for electricity only, then staying back with BGE is best offer.

But if you have a totally different name and a different account, can you not say, for the first partner, that you're moving out and say the second partner is moving in? How could the company know you're a couple? Genuinely wondering?

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 10,353 ✭✭✭✭CoBo55

Give it a try the worst that can happen is they'll tell you to take a hike, be fantastic if it worked. I'd get the missus to sign up in her maiden name next year. Let us know how you get on.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 606 ✭✭✭TheSunIsShining

In contract til next year. But might try it! Here's hoping for us all!

I did that with electric Ireland. Applied online in my wife's name switching from my name. Same surname and it went through no issues.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 7,834 ✭✭✭bren2001

i never quite understood this attitude, if they made you an offer that's cheaper than what you're switching too, I wouldn't move.

That's good to know, so herself got the new customer deal, did you use her bank details, email etc?
