I wonder who Martin is? He’s being slid sideways of that couch for the last couple of years!

Here's another quote from King about Tubs: "

Ryan is on at 10am every morning on Q102. Why would he want to be on RTE?

    Is he having a laugh?

I wonder will Graham Norton get Tubs on as a guest on his show this season 🤔.

Hopefully on the Red Chair and be put on his hole after his first couple of words 👏.

TV and Radio people are in a world of their own. Not that I think you should always complain but they really seem to have their blinkers on.

Over the last week for example I have read about the return of the Today show on RTÉ ONE …. and how it … "is now part and parcel of people’s day. It has evolved over the years"

Seriously its Live @ 3 or Open House or The Afternoon Show …. its a part-time daytime show …. it has changed as much as RTÉ has …. not at all

While with the advent of 35 years of Fair City it is … "so important to Irish TV culture and a part of Irish history really"

And that is not to mention the strange interview on the Ray D'Arcy show that I caught the tail end of about Eurovision!

Meanwhile Weatherman Martin King says … "I wouldn’t be the least bit surprised if Ryan pops up on ITV or BBC TV because he has the chops and the experience to be able to do the lot" … perhaps he does but weren't you presenting the weather when he was just a Researcher in RTÉ?

@hawley sorry just read your post there, and I suppose to be fair to the above they are promoting themselves and the companies / shows they work for :/

With Steve Coogan beside him dressed as Alan Partridge? :)

I once considered Martin King as a capable radio presenter back in the days of Sunshine 101. Gradually over the years and since independent radio in Ireland was legalised, he has descended into mediocrity. I wouldn't value his opinion on anything radio, let alone his view on Tubridy's presenting skills. Although I can't help but to think that he is indulging in some brown nosing.

Honestly Tubs isnt even good enough for hate listening.

Joe Duffy I can stick it for a while.

Wonder if Bobson was on the radio would it be worth a few mins of hate listening.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 5,925 ✭✭✭yagan

Bobson would accuse all his listeners of tuning in just to hate him.

I haven't listened since he got the sack but I enjoy catching up here 😀

Problem Bob is he's been talked about on a platform that is not relevant. :(

Glad to see you've passed denial and reached the acceptance phase

    Imagine Bobson hosting liveline

"Go ahead caller ..tells us why you hate the show so much?"

    show might end with
"and tomorrow we will discuss hating middle aged white men as that never seems to get any coverage anywhere else. I think they were born middle aged….." fade out

Since I am giving out about Middle aged men I might as well have a go at Middle aged woman : -

    https://www.irishmirror.ie/showbiz/elaine-crowley-admits-shes-ready-33741833

TV host Elaine Crowley has admitted she turned down working for RTE after Virgin Media gave her her own show – and said she’d love a chat show to rival The Late Late Show.

    Didn't happen… you don't refuse RTÉ because … they make you a deal you couldn't refuse …

But in fairness how many women in broadcasting in Ireland could say they executive produced their own show and had their name on it? No-one.

BiBi, Mary Kennedy, Miriam Callaghan and they all got paid vastly more than you.

I think there is room for it. There is definitely a possibility for it. I can definitely do it without a bother. So maybe it is time for the girls to take over from the boys.

    See above!

Did Tubridy get inducted into the IMRO hall of fame? Noticed that D'arcy was being inducted according to RTE.

Vogue Williams on Richard Osman's" House of Games" this week. (Not doing great, but whatever!)

Her profile in the UK is on the up recently . possibly assisted by standing in for Tubs recently

Tubs' profile in the UK, however, doesn't seem to have budged since he got there. He really needs to start putting the work in, getting out and about, if he's, going to make a success of his overseas venture.

Mind you, hard work never was second nature(or required) when he bestrode Montrose like the God he surely believes himself to be 🙂

    Not a chance…

Even the legendary Graham Norton Show editing team couldn't make Tubs the slightest bit interesting.

IF D'Arcy qualifies to be in the Hall of Fame of anything, that thing should be disbanded.

If you are going to do this radio show you need to have more that one answer to everything.

I mean say they come on Bobson livelahn and go on for 3 weeks about the beatings by da brodders in the local RC school and all you can say back to them is

"Might have been funnier in your head , my compadre"

the whaling and nashing of teeth!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

nationwide replaced 1 man with 2-3 women

the news went all female and when the viewing figure went down they reacted with "we are doing it our way" - yeah right! - its all BS!

I’m in the Aer Lingus departures lounge in Dublin at the moment. There’s a rather famous Irish person who left Ireland for pastures anew and has “made it” in the UK media scene sitting across from me. I wonder if I asked him politely would he be so kind as to give Ryan a few tips?

I’ll be in London for a few days. I have a driver waiting to collect me in Heathrow, I’m sure the first thing he’ll ask me is do I know The ToyBookMan given he is so famous there. I’ll likely be in a few taxis over the next few days so will doubtless be plagued with this question.

I’ll be on the tube too so will keep an eye out for posters of the most trusted man in Ireland.

Tubs' diary today, the main bits so you won't have to hate read like I did, resulting in a feeling of self hatred for doing so.

So..this week, our selfless and soulful hero attended the London Irish Centre in Camden where TV and radio presenter Dermot O’Leary had "organised a big evening of musical entertainment with some of the finest Irish musicians doing the rounds". Tubs "managed to swing by to wish him luck and found myself saying hello to a heap of people I used to see very regularly when they came on the Late Late, including Gavin James, Mundy, Tolu Makay, Picture This and Imelda May…"

Yes, as always, Tubs is somewhere by fluke with selfless intentions ("managed to swing by to wish him luck") but in doing so, "found myself" meeting a whole host of stars. Ahh yes, I recall other diary entries where he "happened" to be having a pint, and "happened" to see Sinead O'Connor walking down the street etc. etc.

Does this guy really think he fools us all with this "how the hell did that happen" routine?

The London Irish Centre gig was probably the only place where he would have been recognised. Even at that stage of his career, Alan Partridge had his "Skirmish" TV programme.

The Irish Irish Irish thing following him to London is hilarious. Didn't mark him as one of those people that makes a beeline for the nearly Irish pub whilst abroad.

Last Sunday's RT column was about a trip to Dubai where all the Irish are doing so well apparently.
