    I went with these busbars

I see what you mean, I just passed both + and - through the same switch, not using any extra bus bars and already got a second switch ordered now so I might as well split them.

As is, I'm not sure the 250a fuse would like 300a for 3 hours

Cheers ended up going with these but like the fact the ones you ordered are fully covered as still gap on the one I ordered under the lid

Quick question, with the 2-5am cheap electricity is there an upper limit on how much you can use of this?

I don't see it mentioned but want to be sure.

There isn't with pinergy but enegia have something like 1000kwh per month and then you get shafted per unit after that

I won't call it shafted. its 1-2 cent extra per kWh above 1000 kWh usage every 2 months.

so in first 12 months goes from 7.54 to 8.67 and its only for usage above 1000kWh this rate is applied.
After 12 months EV rate increases from 8.87 to 10.02.

Outside of the EV period then yes you'll be shafted without battery/solar as thats 33.86 (first 12 months) and then 39.84!

Energia EV Rate is from 2am to 6am

Yeah that's not too bad then, not sure why I thought I have seen it a lot higher than that, like almost 30c

But it does add up, 1200kwh on energia is €93 and 1200kwh on pinergy is €66 (unit rates only)

@idc is that a two year contract? What's the exit penalty on that?

@SD_DRACULA depends on your usage too. No EV, no HP, I've never come close...

My 40% discount contact (4 rates) is up in December. I'm borderline pinergy/energia, mostly comes down to battery size for me. Then there is the service experience. Seems to take a while for a pinergy switch to settle.

You remember right, the penalty rate difference used to be much bigger than it is now. So yes, in the past you got shafted when going over 1000 night units

So it is a 2 year contract then? And the night rate goes to over 10c after a year? That's twice the Pinergy rate. That's not good. I'm just over a year in with Pinergy, so have another year to go

The Energia smart drive plan is a 1 year contract. I'll probably switch to this soon as out of contract with Bord Gais.

Pinergy is cheaper but the level pay for the first few months seems a bit much. Though I know it'll balance out eventually.

    Thanks very much for that.

It looks like Pinergy might be the best option then.

I'm going to have a very unusual setup of 40Kw of solar and 60Kw of batteries, finally started installing this today. So the plan would be to charge the 60Kw batteries/cars etc during the 3/4 hour window (I have sufficient MIC and inverter charging speed that I can do this), run everything on the cheap electricity during the day and then get paid 20+ cent to export everything I generate.

I'd imagine this will end in arguments with my supplier/getting kicked out as a customer when I try to get paid by the provider over the course of the year rather than paying them but we'll see!

Other annoying aspect is at the moment I only have standard 3 phase (non smart) meter so I can't do my plan till I get one.

So in the meantime with deemed export I'll be doing the exact opposite of the above, ie trying to store all electricity I generate in batteries, export as little as possible.

Several regulars in the forum are doing just that. Having a negative total electricity bill for the year. It is no problem at all to get paid back from Pinergy, takes a week or two sometimes.

Make sure to put anyone who contributes to the bill to your bill, there is a €400 FIT income exemption per person on the bill. I have 5 people on the bill 😁

    Thanks for that, will do.

Guessing I can't get my 7 and 9 year olds as bill contributors 😁

Have you managed to get them on the bill or just in the app as users? Think has to be the former for tax purposes

Just the app. That's good enough for me. All are over 16 years old and do paid work and they contribute to the bill.

Technically they still get paid probably around €100 per month, they just have to pay you more 🤣

Unless you setup a trust fund for them and from the trust income, they pay you towards the bill? 😂

40kw of panels? Must be some roof you have.

I presume you have 3 phase, but I would imagine you will have to apply for something from ESB networks to export that amount to the grid. NC7 or something similar?

Yes you can, there is no lower age limit for Income Tax in Ireland, just stick them on the bill

I want to know how you charge 60kwh in 3 hours 😉

He has a 3ph connection in a newish home afaik. That's plenty of MIC to draw 20kW. So even with a legal (NC6) limit 5.5kW inverter and a few separate chargers / rectifiers, you are allowed to do that fully by the book.

    It's 11kW on a nc6 for 3 phase 😁.

But with 40kW of solar, that needs a nc7 anyway

Yeah missed the 3ph part earlier but still interested in the setup he is going for, I am assuming he's not daisy-chaining 10 rectifiers for this 😂

Damn, I need to buy the land behind my house from the council and get a 3ph connection myself 😁

Only beginning to look at a battery project.

Anyone come across these. Delving down the Alibaba rabbit hole. Seems fairly ready to go.

11kwh battery delivered for €1600 or so.

Very close to pulling the trigger on one of those GobelPower batteries, the last challenge remaining is the logistics of locating a 120kg unit up into an attic. Other than tearing it down and rebuilding it up there, anyone got any experience of a similar challenge of a) lifting it up there and b) ensuring the weight is adequately spread across joists?

I wouldn't leave the weight on the joists, can you stick it on the wall?

That's what I used to have, made a "shelf" out of two heat pump brackets and it happily took 200kg of batteries, all the weight on the thick wall between houses.

Before ordering…confirm they are DDP (Delivered Duty Paid…. i.e. no additional charges)

Other popular choices for complete kits include:

    • YIXIANG
    • Gobel Power
    • Fogstar (Seplos kits)
    • NKON (Cells only)

I found that by paying in US$ using Revolut for Forex can save ~100→200. Using EFT can also save a few %.

A good set of options for DIY kits can be found here: https://off-grid-garage.com/diy-kits/

Hipped roof on all sides, so no gable wall unfortunately. The existing 5kWh battery is mounted to the roof frame but I suspect at 120kg, I'd be better off treating this unit like our water tank and spreading the weight across several joists using cross-beams? A quick google suggests a standard attic floor can hold 40-50kg/m2, so I need to distribute the load across 5-6 joists I'd say?
