    my current employer is the type to have you in work with a leg or arm missing because at least you’ve still one— but when I told him I had Covid there wasn’t a question if I was out for the days I was on or not.

    He rang me yesterday I’m thinking surely not to see am I coming in— no, just to check I was okay! It’s basic cop on.

    Regardless if it’s Covid or a cold if you’re sick you should stay at home until you’re not sick.

    So nothing to do with Covid then. From my multinational days, such restrictions were only for board level staff. Has this changed?

    That ability to diagnose conditions by the form somebody is in is some gift.

    You should do a bit of GPing on the weekends or as a nixer.

    Not necessary to test negative before returning to work - I believe that the HSE advice is to stay out of work for 5 days after first showing symptoms?

    I hate people like the office myrter. Come in coughing and spluttering all over the place. Sniffling all day. All your doing is passing it onto others and could take down half the team when you don’t need to be here. Never mind if they’ve Covid, plague or just the common cold. Most people will catch the common cold as is without the extra help from work colleagues.

    Funnily enough our office martyr was a COVID Nazi, caught her screaming at a junior staff member who just tested in the office after a co worker text to say they were out. No symptoms, and they just weren't sure what to do.

    When they had a cough, it was just a thing from exercise, until it was COVID and they ended up on their knees.

    Office martyrs cost companies more than they make them, offices are better off rid of them

    I know nobody wants (or Should) to do this, but….

    if your employer is insisting on you coming into work, with confirmed COVID or any other type of flu, or feeling unwell,…would you not go around to as many people in the company as possible and then see how many turn up for work, for this lovely employer, over the next few days….😁

    They might learn at least to let their employees recover and be somewhat considerate of their health in future

    No more than it did before covid. But we never had a stay at home policy to deal with it.

    Covid is at this point irrelevant to the conversation, I'm not sure how it's worse today to a flu or a stomach bug.

    Your colleague did however call in sick, and was told to come in. That's awful of your employer to allow it.

    My advice is, if your employer makes you to come to work when positive for Covid (or with any other contagious or respiratory illness) announce it loudly to all around you so that anyone in your workplace who is vulnerable, or caring for vulnerable people, can leave if they want to.

    I am a type 2 diabetic with respiratory conditions. A common cold to me is not just 2 or 3 days of mild discomfort. It's usually two weeks of misery followed by a chest infection and antibiotics. If someone came to work and sat in my vicinity with covid (or a cold, for that matter) I would leave immediately.

    And I wouldn't take it sitting down from the employer either. Employers have a duty of care to ALL their employees.

    As of yesterday there were 205 people in hospital in Ireland with covid, and 14 of them are in intensive care.

    It's a bit more than a cold.
