@drury.. I didn't mean to come across as nasty in what I said, probably just a result of being stuck in bed.

I am in the Dublin 15 area and need someone to install a Shelly unit in my fuse box plus a wall plug socket from the fuse box down (about 1-2 meters). I can explain how the Shelly can be connected if it's the first time (it's a simple feed).

Then my smart life will be fulfilled.

If you are in the area at some stage, then give me a quote via direct message and we can go from there.

    That is it

    People are bought into smart

Now how much flexibility you need over control of an immersion heater is debatable

I would argue it's mostly time wasting getting into smart control with the above item

being able to turn off the immersion remotely would be useful wouldnt it?

Depends on the family and lifestyle.

Just spent a week in a cottage in Connemara where I paid via Prepay-Power topup.

No need to have the immersion on at home every morning at the set time when we were away so I turned it off remotely.

My wife went back to Dublin for a work meeting, but she spent a night at home and returned the next day. Looking back I could see that after her stay the energy costs increased about 32% compared to the previous days when we where not there.

She left the kitchen and hallway lights on when she left. Unfortunately I don't have control over that at the moment for various reasons.

We are getting into winter. If heating systems are set to come on automatically at a certain temperature then if a window/door is left open the heating will switch on unnecessarily when nobody is around. In that case, one can get a warning and make a change.

I'm not a big fanboy of anything specific but I was just frustrated at not knowing where my money was going on electricity bills every month and not being able to view it. Add to that, my wife leaves all the lights on all the time if she has a chance. It would be great to show her the difference.

Screenshot below of the bedroom (switched off at the isolator as never used), lounge and kitchen underfloor heating, plus the immersion.

Can be turned on/off and set to different temps and schedules.

I've currently (pun intended) a 2 month bill from Electric Ireland and I dread it now.

There can be 8 here at times and some of them have no issue in using the clothes dryer even when it's sunny and has wind outside with 2 long clotheslines so I understand the requirement here indeed.

I'm looking into getting an overall device which I have seen but it was not available that would automatically detect what type of device was plugged in depending on the load etc.

I'd prefer the 'overall' device rather than one with individual sockets.

Have a look at Shelly clamp or "tuya smart life wifi energy meter".

It clips onto the cables coming from the various circuits in your home at the fuse box. In that way you can tell which circuit is drawing energy and when.

They come in one, two, four clamp options, so you may need more than one.

It's not battery operated so will need to be wired in by an electrician.

Would it though if you've already programmed it to turn off using a standard timer

    Sh1t happens but how often

I just provided an answer. Head off on holiday for a week or two or a weekend away and one is concerned more with packing/kids/pets etc and forget about turning off the immersion.

It's a matter of inclusion and understanding what may happen in other people's lives and what their needs arerather than just in ones own.

Another example is if one has a holiday home and that's a distance away. One visits, leaves and remembers a few days later that the immersion and other stuff is still switched on.

Or if renters turn up the heating to 26 degrees which you will have to pay for (happens).

I also am looking for a home device to monitor what specifically is using electricity the most. Esb smart meters only provide data for total usage and shows the day after. In England my family use a geo home device that shows real time information. For eg if you are using a specific item like boiling the kettle the device turns from green to orange and shows you the amount of electricity in real time what is been used. Is there any home device compatible with esb smart meters that can show realtime information?
    Thanks
