Whatever about the new rules, the new warning process with accumulated bans sounds very similar to the soccer forum, minus maybe the DRP process... and it worked.

The only thing I'm not sure is whether in Soccer the warnings are permanent - there used to be a reset every couple of years, but that was years ago.

I think longer term it might be a good thing for CA - mind you though I don't frequent the forum, so I don't know the extent of the damage…

Upcoming gigs and events: Cardinals, David Byrne, VNV Nation, Lord Of The Lost, Dry Cleaning, The Shawshank Redemption, These Charming Men, Sasha Velour, Disorder Festival, The Cure, Garbage, Olafur Arnalds, Cabaret Voltaire

It was quite useful until the brilliant idea of posting private messages no-one wanted to read.

Ye should bring back people being able to post new threads about whatever all the time, the obsession with keeping the place tidy or whatever and forcing all conversation into a few threads was really stifling and frankly an awful idea for the users and really just for the mods. More new threads is more interesting for people

at the risk of going off topic….

Far too much credence was given to a minority shouting "mod-bias" at the expense of the majority of posters who if anything wanted more moderation.

those two aren't mutually exclusive, a lot shouting mod bias would be happy with a bit more moderation overall, if it was applied evenly, over all.

Are the existing forum perma-bans allowed back?

I presume what a user says on another thread in CA is fair game? RI/PI seems an obvious thing, a bit of a **** thing for someone to bring that up elsewhere.

(I honestly didn't know there was new rules till I saw this thread, all seems to be well so far, there is a rereg or two who you see go after some posters that will need to be watched).

go back to my first second post in the thread and make your own judgement

If the thread is still open in the morning (afternoon) I might say more

    Inclusivity2.jpg

This policy is definitely not being followed, with open and very deliberate misgendering and transphobia now being allowed.

Or should we ask, does misgendering and transphobia now come under the "very minor" type of infraction that will be ignored?

Can I ask what was the thought behind removing thread bans?

tbh i thought a lot of boards mods had moved over to r/ireland, or at least that's what it felt like a few years ago…

After Hours still tolerates a bit of that, I think. and The Cuckoo's Nest is still a thing, though probably not as well frequented or publicised… (I suppose it depends on the type of thing you want to post though)

    #MEGA MAKE EUROPE GREAT AGAIN

As someone in “prison” right now (for a crime I didn’t commit *shakes fist * 🤪-I certainly wanted more more and better moderation.

Saying that - I actually love ❤️ this part of the new charter:

“However we would like to clarify the following - Low level snark/ personal abuse, concern trolling, sealioning, victim blaming, piling on posters, link dumping and bringing up a posters previous posts from other threads/forums are specifically

    not allowed”

    ,

There’s been A LOT of low level snark personal abuse piling on posters type trolling on certain threads - this has greatly reduced and long may it continue.

I’m interested in the “debate can be more robust” aspect though - I think robust debate is super - but there’s a fine line moving from robust debate to the above type of abuse type posting - robust and honest debate combined with attack the post not the poster will need to be remembered - robust debate often leads to “bickering” as Beasty calls it -so I’m not sure what “robust” debate actually means - standing your ground over 3 pages of posts “could” be classed as robust- it could also be classed as other things but it always takes two to tango - I post, you reply, I reply again and before you know it we’re into page 2 of “discussion” albeit poles apart - is that robust or just one upmanship, thread de-railing ?

Sometimes posters end up in this situation because of pile on- sometimes it’s a “spat” between two posters - but either way, I think “robust” needs to be defined or exampled a bit more -

I can only assume it was to boost post numbers after blocking reregs from CA.

In an amazing turn of events the unbanned have immediately resumed trolling threads again. It boosts activity but kills quality.

They were too messy and cumbersome to enforce and keep track of. Vanilla has no concept of a thread ban, it was entirely up to the mods to keep an up to date list for every single thread.

In the new rules people who found themselves getting thread banned previously will just end up getting forum banned a lot faster instead.

I haven't read all (or most) posts on this thread.

In the first 24 hours 8 posters received a 1 day ban.

Threadbans have been removed and replaced with actual forum bans. This means a poster can't troll one thread, be thread banned and just move to the next one. These forum bans will expire to give people a chance to amend their posting style. If they don't they will be forum banned again for increasing lengths up to permanently banned.

There are more posters posting more often than the Moderators are online to moderate. But reports will be gotten to. Just be patient. We ask posters to continue reporting posts they feel are disrupting the forum. The moderators will get to them.

However, when reporting posts please leave out the digs at the volunteer moderators! One poster in particular has reported a number of posts minutes after they've been posted with comments such as "So this is acceptable now?", "Why is this allowed?" Just report the post with your reason for reporting it. The moderators will get to it. A post posted at 12:06am reported at 12:15am with "so this is allowed now" type comments just make the reporter look like a dick!

Yes, soccer was used as the inspiration for the totting up of warnings into bans.

All we ask at this stage is for people to give it a chance. If it's clear something isn't working we will make adjustments.

You cause a lot of issues. You admit to being a wum and enjoy it.

I don't understand how you get away with it, and then call on other posters to be banned?

Can you clarify in Soccer in relation to the "totting up of warnings" into bans… are warnings ever expired or are they permanent within the forum?

We ask posters to continue reporting posts they feel are disrupting the forum…

Genuine question for clarity - should only posts that we believe are causing disruption be reported, or is there any point in reporting posts that are otherwise inappropriate, offensive, aggressive, uncivil, etc - considering we've been told "minor infractions" will no longer be actioned.

  • Site Banned Posts: 12,921 ✭✭✭✭suvigirl

Asking for posters to report posts, but them calling them dicks is a bit harsh!

Also, what type of posts are unacceptable now? I get personal abuse etc, but it's kinda hard to know

  • Moderators, Category Moderators, Social & Fun Moderators, Society & Culture Moderators Posts: 24,598 CMod ✭✭✭✭Ten of Swords

Report any post you feel is inappropriate, that hasn't changed at all.

The mods will decide what, if any, action is needed.

An for the record, personal abuse of any kind and thread spoiling are not "very minor infractions"

Mods and admin are going to have to manage those posters all over again anyway.

When I modded soccer it reset every league season, I think now it might be every two years.

  • Moderators, Business & Finance Moderators, Social & Fun Moderators, Sports Moderators, Paid Member Posts: 58,422 Mod ✭✭✭✭Necro

Yep as Mickeroo says it's any warnings accumulated within the forum within the previous 2 years. So if you pick up a warning today for example and another in 6 weeks time you'd be banned from Soccer for 2 weeks. A third would give you a months ban, etc, etc.

Just report the post with your reason for reporting it.

That's a pretty bizarre piece of advice. Some reports might need context.

Ah yeah but you have to have some form of a reset when you're moving to new rules. It'll be a short term pain for long term gain, similar to Soccer now going back public. Imo anyways. The serial offenders can't help themselves.
