Any word out of the Bord na Nog meeting , I know the email Mooncoin sending in 6 weeks ago or more at this stage really rattled the feathers .......there needs to be a complete change of the top table

Not sure what was in the Mooncoin email but at the start of the summer it was brought up at CB that there hadn’t been a Bord na nOg meeting in a long time, CB chairman told Bord na nOg chairman to have a meeting which he said he would and then spent the summer putting it off and not calling a meeting! If we think the main board need to be changed times it by a thousand for the juvenile board, one man running the show like a dictator and not for the best interest of clubs and players that’s for sure

good morning Ned.well it would be up to the county board to get board na nog in line and if they didn’t or don’t at this stage then this shows the inefficiency of the county board.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 351 ✭✭Nedflanders02

Well I think they’re is obviously a part of that that the CB should be intervening but Bord na nog have always ran nearly independently and have always had they’re own meetings, conventions and everything. It’s the last few years that things have been derailed

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 1,293 ✭✭✭Marrooned

when are they announcing times and venues for the championship/league

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 1,293 ✭✭✭Marrooned

The county board certainly needs a change at the top but everyone is afraid to move. Society in general has gone like that just look at the Dail bicycle shed disaster you bet that there will be no one to blame and life will trundle on until the next disaster.

Anyone think two teams from junior should go up and two teams from intermediate should come down as the top teams in junior IMO are stronger than bottom teams in intermediate ? For the overall competitiveness and fairness of kk hurling

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 1,606 ✭✭✭Village87

    No

Was at Tullogher vs Mooncoin today, we really through it away in the second half. Mooncoin weren’t a magnificent outfit by any stretch of the imagination, backs were very slow up the field with the short puck outs and not much from inside forwards but they shot from way out the field and it worked for them. Better team won out.

Senior and intermediate league finals are on website this morning. Junior and intermediate championship first round fixtures are there also. Senior championship first round not published yet.

Don’t agree with relegating more than one team. I would agree that the intermediate grade as a whole does have some weak teams in it. I don’t think there is a standout team in intermediate who will go up and hold their own in senior either, the strongest clubs in my opinion are in senior now that Thomastown got up. Who are the strongest junior teams?

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 313 ✭✭jamesbond2022

I wouldn’t agree if there is stronger teams in junior than some of the intermediate teams why haven’t they won junior the last few years and got promoted the system should nt be made easier for team to get promoted.

Every year is different and to win a grade you need to first get to a final and 2nd win the bloody thing

You can’t change the structure of a competition because some bigger clubs or stronger looking clubs on paper haven’t got out of junior

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 5,069 ✭✭✭kksaints

No thanks and I also wouldn't allow the 2nd teams of clubs into intermediate hurling if they win the Junior championship.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 662 ✭✭✭Neewollah

Couldn't agree. I believe the only team currently junior that might be comfortable in Intermediate is Freshford due to them having 3/4 top quality forwards. Obviously Blacks and Whites are struggling this year due to travels and injuries but have one of the smallest picks in the County. They're the only outlier this year in the Intermediate grade. Conahy, St Martins, Carrickshock are all stronger than likes of Windgap, Galmoy, St Patricks, Emeralds

Why are you sticking your oar in? It’s a discussion forum and the comment was relevant.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 270 ✭✭KK36

I wouldn't say that. It's a very relevant topic which is of great interest to a lot of people on this forum.

Why do you want the "Tune" changed? Are you on the county board yourself??

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 1,606 ✭✭✭Village87

Marooned i have agreed with a lot of issues you have raised on this site the past few months. The whole set up is run by dinosaurs and poison with corruption

I think promotion/relegation is fine as it is with 1 up/1 down for the championships. It works well overall.

With the split season in play however, we should really have a proper cut-throat county league competition in play for the earlier part of the year to develop competitiveness in the club scene.

10 team divisions, 3 up/3 down between the divisions every year. Top two in the Divisional final, next two in promotion playoff. Teams 7 & 8 in relelgation playoff. Pure cut-throat. Give a bit of prize money (say €3k) for Divisional Champions for the top 3 divisions to promote and drive it.

Obviously minus the players on the county panels, and some players will be missing due to holidays and such, but for the most part it'll be the same players that will be turning out later in the year for the A & B teams, so they'll have more games to hone their skills.

The reason for the 10 team and 3 up/3 down format would be crossover of the county championship grades. For example (based on our current county system), we'd have 10 senior teams in Division A, 2 senior & 8 intermediate in Division B, 4 intermediate and 6 junior teams in Divisions C. So teams from the lower grades of the county championships get more exposure against better opposition, and hopefully with exposure to stronger competition can develop a bit more.

    Just a thought really.

But the split-season is there, we should use that to help develop a cut-throat competition in the county to increase the competitiveness of the clubs within the county for the county championships.

PS - They could also throw in a "Kilkenny Cup" competition as well in alternate weeks. Straight knockout, finish on the day. No 'B' teams involved. Start with a round for some of the Junior clubs until there's 8 Junior clubs left, then add in the 12 Senior and 12 Intermediate clubs so you have 32. Open draw from then on. If a team from a lower grade gets a team from a higher grade the lower grade teams plays at home. Teams from the same grade play in neutral venue. Give a €5k winner takes all prize for it. I reckon you'd draw a crowd.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 5,069 ✭✭✭kksaints

I'd be more sceptical tbh, is that level of prize money really enough to increase interest? Where would the prize money come from? How is it really different from the Senior/Intermediate leagues that are usually run in the Summer particularly for the players? Is clashing with the Intercounty championship going to lead to the same low interest that the aforementioned leagues have? Could it lead to diminished interest in the League because we'd have seen more of the matches earlier in the season?

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 2,313 ✭✭✭randd1

Good questions, I suppose we'd have to try it first to know.

My ideal solution would be the GAA to promote county leagues in both codes in every county in the country during the first half of the year, preferably encouraging clubs to play under lights on a Friday night so as not to clash with the inter-county scene, and establishing a find for floodlights to be in every club ground within 7 years instead of white elephant stadiums.

The carrot for these county leagues would be that the winner would then represent their county in a provincial/national shield competition similar to the club championships, which would be run at the same time as the club championships. And if a team wins the county league and then wins the county title, the runner up of the county league would represent the county in the provincial/national competition.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 5,069 ✭✭✭kksaints

Ah I see, that's a much bigger and national scale than I'd thought from your initial post. I'd have significant questions on the viability of such a system from both a financial and player interest side particularly as you'd run into clashes with other sports fairly quickly but it's still an interesting idea.

I'd agree with a floodlight fund and astro pitches fund for all sports. The standard of sporting facilities in Ireland is poor for the most part compared to Europe.

The new CBS out the Granges road in KK city a fabulous new school with little or no facilities. I know there is one all weather pitch and I think that’s all, which is unbelievable in this day and age when you would think the government would be doing everything to promote sport. Dicksboro are going to share their pitches in exchange for use of the all weather pitch, the only trouble is the Boro are already stretched with only two pitches available for a huge membership. James park is only leased.I think the government should be doing everything to help clubs purchase more grounds, this will be the saviour of our youth. O’loughlins tried to get a bit of land on the Johnswell road that’s lying idle for years and they got no hop off of the local council. This land is on the left going out of town before Lidl. They only wanted it for juveniles they didn’t want to purchase it.Now I’ll probably be slaughtered for misinformation but that’s it as far as I can see it.

If its inside the ring road it's probably zoned for housing as it should be.
