Identify this moth

I reckon its a moth. I've seen a lot of shed cocoons around my garden this summer, I believe they are all from this species. When he opened his wings his body was identical to the shed skin I've been seeing around. He is approx 1 inch in length, can anyone identify him? I've never seen one before
