    Perhaps not.

But it may entice (if any enticement is needed) her to come out and encourage her supporters to vote against him

I was reading earlier, she can sue him.

There is a specific law in Tennessee, where her management company is incorporated, called ( seriously) the ELVIS act - Ensuring Likeness Voice and Image Security.

Under this law, she can sue him for using her image for personal benefit etc.

As with his Kamala AI nonsense, every accusation is an admission.

I’ve seen a couple people mention that the worst thing about him for some supporters is that he’s becoming boring.

    Boring and weird.

Yep. Just an utterly vile human being. The fact that he's seen as some sort of God-like figure by a good portion of the US population is profoundly worrying.

In the best tradition of distraction politics, Mike Lindell says he's going to shave off his moustache to infiltrate the DNC. "you're who?"

Indeed. Also Donnie wanted that debade to take the form of a Trump rally. Of course she shouldn't do that one. Also they agreed to a normal debate with Biden at later date anyway, which I'm guessing was fine before. He clearly wants to try to tip the scales now that he's up against someone who can talk back at him.

Any bets on him refusing to do the second debate because Harris isn't doing the Trump Rally that Fox agreed to?

'Comrade Kamala Harris has just informed us'…I doubt she did any such thing. She is busy having a convention. She did not say she would do the Sept 4th debate - and it does not appear that she was even asked. Its just Trump scrabbling around for talking points to remain relevant. There will be a lot of these this week.

Same old loonball nonsense, but it's like someone turned the record player to 18.

    Low energy ranting and raving.

He is almost 80 I suppose.

It’s all very transparent. As soon as he tried to get his Fox rally/debate ahead of the already agreed ABC date, it was obvious it’s a bad faith agreement from him.

The way the polls are going it’s Trump who will needs the debates more than Harris so she should feel no pressure to campaign on her opponents terms.

Absolutely, if she agreed and turned up to Fox he was never gonna go to ABC, now he has to go to ABC or he gives her the free solo air time in front of the voters he needs.

100% , he'd do the Fox Debate and then say "I won that big league, I don't need to debate her again".

I'd wonder if we'll end up in a situation where Trump will now attempt to talk to an empty podium at his Trump Rally Fox Debate, and thus fail to turn up at the ABC Debate resulting in Harris talking to an empty podium. So we end up with a series of one-sided debates where the other side isn't there.

This is will likely serve Harris more than Trump. She's got a popular message, while Trump will just lean back into his boring old wierd material. I can easily imagine him refusing to do the ABC Debate after she doesn't turn up to his unilaterally agreed Fox thing. Thereafter I can see him refusing to show up at future main network debates, but still set things up with the likes of RSBN or NewsMax and "challenge" her to turn up to debate him if she dares.

We could well see a Harris/Trump debate, but part of me is doubtful.

I saw a clip from Jon Stewart's podcast where he was asked about how debates should be done, and he said the debates nowadays are so over-moderated where candidates get 1-2 minutes to answer questions with their pre-prepared answers and so there's never any real debate. That they instead should be two people talking at a table discussing their policies back and forth with each other, and actually challenging the merits of each other's policies.

The issue with that is you can't do that with Trump. Walz and Vance, maybe, but you absolutely need strong moderation with Trump otherwise he'll just shout over everyone and he'll never actually discuss or debate how his policies actually work or how they'd be implemented.

Agreed, but surely somebody looking to be POTUS should be able to handle a blowhard like Trump?

They have to deal with much more impressive people than Trump so looking to sanitise the debate seems wrong.

And as Stewart says its end up with a pointless session where real issues are reduced to 45 second sound bites.

Imagine having Trump actually have to expand on his ideas. And be tested on the implications.

Most political opponents when discussing matters don't spew BS at a rate of knots to an audience who laps it up.

That happened and worked in 2016, nearly worked in 2020 and there is zero upside to risking it again this year.

If he doesnt turn up to ABC he gives Harris the ability to fact check everything he says at Fox without any chance of reply which would be a huge error.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2, Paid Member Posts: 5,310 ✭✭✭Rawr

    Well….I don't think we've ever accused him a being clever….

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 19,390 ✭✭✭✭VinLieger

Absolutely but you have to see how much he is currently being managed, so its a question of how petulent he will be on the day vs how much control his handlers have to answer if he turns up. Team Harris should be really trying to see how much they can rile him up between the FOX and ABC dates to try and get him not to show up, its a thin line to walk between making him not show up and making him want to show up even more though.

The term "playing chess with a pigeon" comes to mind, where the pigeon will knock over the pieces, sh*t on the board and strut around like they won. Yes, as POTUS any candidate would have to deal with incredibly impressive people, and be able to take them on in a debate or heated discussion.

But that's not what Trump does. He's a completely different kettle of fish to the point where he would simply not really answer the question (he never does anyway), dodge criticisms, and just shout and throw baseless nonsense attacks at his opponent. You cannot have a reasonable debate with him, and without strong moderation to counter his debating style engaging him in that way serves no purpose for someone like Harris.

This clip is what comes to mind:

"Dealing with" a political opponent and winning a televised debate are two very very different things.

If you are negotiating with a foreign leader or maybe an opposition leader of the House/Senate and they go all "Trump" and just shout and roar and talk nonsense you just get up from the table and say "we can continue this when you are ready to discuss this rationally" or whatever.

The ability to "walk-away" from the negotiating table is a powerful tactic , get up from the table on TV and you've lost to the screaming idiot.

Should Trump not show up for ABC, then history has already provided an able deputy

Great to see former republicans appearing at the Democratic convention.

    Every little helps
