I've seen that Zubimendi by reports seems to be on the fence about leaving Spain. Reports suggest he's quite happy with his current living situation and seems like he needs to be convinced to leave.

So for us I think that is something we absolutely have to be 100% on. We need to be sure the player is willing to commit 100% to the move and there is little chance of home sickness etc.. If he has a wife and kids then we need to know how they feel about the move as well. All that should be done on each move really but it's especially important at this stage for Utd.

At the moment Utd need every transfer to land and improve the team. Everything has to be right. We can't carry a 60m midfielder who is homesick for a season to sell at a loss next summer. There's no room in the budget and there's nothing in the squad to step up and fill a gap.

So even though Zubimendi might be a clearly better footballer with a higher ceiling than Berg. He might not be the better option for Utd right now.

If Utd were in a better position squad wise then we could look at taking the chance as the upside if the player does settle could be seen as worth it. But we aren't so our gambles need to be careful.

I hate the notion of "PL proven" but in this case it might actually make sense.

Ya a few players now have had some shock after leaving united on a free, lingard, martial, degea and even pogba to a degree I'd say were certain they would have better offers from bigger clubs then they got, I'd say degea definitely regrets stalling on that contract offer he had

Lingard did get multiple offers, just made a terrible decision.

    Pogba went back to Juventus.

De Gea was obviously cooked. Completely lost his nerve every time he got the ball. Was sad to see.

Martial I get the feeling could take or leave ever having to play football again.

Leaving beautiful San Sebastián for Liverpool would have me doubting things as well. But yeah we don’t need any more Di Maria’s, that was a nightmare. He’s still talking about his hatred for United 🙄

I kinda wonder if we do go back to bayern with new bids if we should make an offer for Davies rather than mazraoui. He'd be a better first team player, but then logically I think it would be stupid. But man I'd like love Davies.

I didn't say they didn't have offers just they ended up at clubs a few notches lower then they expected when leaving.

Lingard turned down west ham due to money took the short deal at forest and couldn't make the team. Gambled on standing out there and lost massively.

Pogba I'm sure expected a top champions league team ended up at juve who were mid table the previous year on less money then united offered him

And degea now ended up at a mid table Italian club after a year of looking for a club on a fraction of what he was offered with us no doubt.

Had a feeling we'd get news today just thought it would be later.

What's the problem with that? We're buying from a European team and (hooefully) selling to an English team.

Good to see those deals done and by all accounts seems AWB is essentially done too. Now hopefully we see some movement on midfield.

Reckon we are going to hear shaw is out for a prolonged period very shortly. I think the awb out and bayern lads in became a bigger priority in the last few days. I had heard Shaw was just not fit, similar to maguire, zirkzee, but have since read he's properly injured again.

Not overly sure on the two bayern guys. De ligt is a similar style to maguire, though maybe that bit more comfort on the ball is a key difference.

Mazraoui looks like an injury crock, so while in theory he provides cover and options both sides, it seems like he is going to spend as much time on the treaement table as the pitch.

It also makes me wonder what vivel is doing, when the two options we come up with are former ajax and ETH players. Could mean ajax just had really good players but also makes me wonder if we ate still leaning too hard on 'players ETH personally knows and likes' which isn't a sound long term strategy.

I also worry that we've now spent about 120m on defence and still have the disaster of casemiro as first choice dm and Collyer as second choice? We hear funds are tight, so can we actually afford a decent option at cm now?

You say you have read that Shaw is now properly injured, have you a link to that? haven't read it anywhere.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 48,944 ✭✭✭✭Mitch Connor

Nope, read it on a restricted (Patreon) discord. A few united accounts in twitter were hinting at it yesterday too.

Shaw being out again would be an unmitigated disaster. Where have you seen this? Not seeing it in the usual places.

    @Mitch Connor

No hassle. I'm sure we will find out in the next few days.

I thought he was still working up to fitness after his break after the euros and given his injury record, utd are correct not to rush him back for a friendly.

But maybe he is injured and Utd are getting better at keelping stories quiet from the press.

Its whats done to make it look like we pay more, Sky are notorious for putting our transfers with all add ons as a total but not for other clubs.

Looks like Licha will start at LB. Interested to see how that goes

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 7,612 ✭✭✭SteM

You might have a point if we were both selling and buying from a European team, but not in this instance I'm afraid. They're right to put the transfer to West Ham in sterling.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 48,944 ✭✭✭✭Mitch Connor

Amass not even on the bench. Extremely odd decision imo, with martinez at lb, Evans at cb I can't understand not having him ( or any defender) on the bench. I'd think it likely we'll have to sub Evans or martinez but off, and we've given ourselves no options. What was the point in bringing him on tour if he's not ready fir the bench in such circumstances?

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 2,650 ✭✭✭All_in_Flynn

Just separately, the piece around Vivel and ex Ajax players. I merely think this is coincidence with these two. I'd be fairly shocked if the scouts weren't keen on De Ligt.

Can understand why people may have reservations about De Ligt given that Juve and Bayern were happy to let him go. But from what I've read, Juve had to tighten the purse strings and it's a little similar to Bayern again now. They spent big money on Kane and need refreshing elsewhere. He's on big wages and they felt they could get Tah in on less money.

Mazraoui is an upgrade on AWB and looks like will be for a similar fee. His fitness is definitely a concern but AWB missed a chunk last year too. We needed some kind of fee for AWB.

I still think there will be a midfielder brought in.

Maguire and Evans at CB, Martinez at left back. Not good. Not one defender on the bench, no sign of Shaw FFS. Looks like we're doing the 4-2-2-2 again.

Maybe you're right about Shaw and they're minding him now or he might have picked up a late knock. It's definitely strange though.
