What a day to be alive.

Ridiculous take. It was a test match, meaningless ultimately.

Definitely worse than Staunton because it was drawn out so long and left us at such a low ebb. Might be a better manager but it was negligence leaving him at the wheel past the first campaign when everyone but his biggest cheerleaders could see he was drowning in the role. FAI to blame as usual for that one.

No GAA semi’s preview, and particularly no EURO’s Final preview is a bit strange… hope everything’s ok with the lads.

To be honest I've been kind of thinking the same. They've never been so short staffed before.

    Perfect weekend completed

I just assumed Eoin was on holidays but yes they do seem a bit stretched at the moment. Plus Murph seems to have relocated down the country not sure if temporary or permanent.

Same, I kind of thought it odd Eoin would take holidays when the euros were at the business end.

Can we not do the whole parasocial relationship thing, cheers

I'm jacking in the pod sub for a while. SC is badly in need of a refresh of some sort, you can hear it in the lads voices at this stage, I think that they are all a bit fed up. Same auld tired contributors (shoutey Delaney again today FFS), tedious audiobeds etc. The OTT negativity from Ken and that insufferable hipster Branno in particular around the Ireland job finally did it for me. I may check in again mid-way through next season to see if anything has changed, but life is too short to pay to be annoyed by a football podcast!

I wouldn’t be as strong on it as that, and I will likely continue with the subscription. But this Euros event was one of the first where I really wasn’t bothered about listening to the after match pods.
could just be me being bored with soccer or something, but there’s def a little less entertainment value last 3 months.
Side note, but Audio beds are def not at the same exquisite high standards they used to be.

It's a lot to do with the crap Euros/soccer in general. If you'd told me a few years back there's be a summer tournament during which I would only listen to a tiny handful of the Guardian or Totally Football daily pods, I would've said you're mad.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 552 ✭✭✭Tucker.Tim

I’ve really enjoyed their Euros coverage and it was the perfect amount to complement the actual football. The summers with no major tournament are rotten for football.

Could be a range of factors but i checked out of the last two months of the Premier League season and wasn't excited about the euros but it grew on me. Actually went back to the guardian after a couple of years away as the tournament progressed.

There's too much football for sure and that affects everyone involved, players, media, fans. No harm in taking a break from it and seeing if it's worth coming back to, it'll survive.

Probably won't jack it, but agree with you, it does feel a bit jaded these days.. I find Ken difficult to listen to, I think he talks a lot of **** about football, prone to exaggeration.. like Mainoo was the best midfielder in Europe after 20 min against the Netherlands, he will dog him in a few weeks.. I find him a little tabloid

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 7,851 ✭✭✭Raoul

If it wasn't for Ken I wouldn't even listen to the free pods.

Lee Carsley not even being in the conversation for the England job now it’s open really tells us how attractive our job was to him.

    Carsley is second favourite.

Both the BBC and the Guardian have him the shortlist of candidates - he is in the conversation.

Having said that I'd be very surprised if he was the chosen one.

Listening to UK-based football podcasts, they all seem to scoff at the idea of Lee Carsley getting the job as if he is a total nobody.

Kind of surprised they didn’t give some reasoning for not doing any previews ahead of last weekend. Did they just forget?

Typed Lee Carsley into Twitter, the majority of responses from England fans is positive, not sure if that means anything, wouldn't rule him out.

I liked it, listened to a lot the night they were released. Ken calling from the stadium gave a nice atmosphere too.

Listening to Ken and the lads shouting over Despacito and some remix of a Shakira song the other night definitely added some atmosphere to it.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 1,598 ✭✭✭Dante

I still miss the travel logs of Ken during the WC in Russia 2018. That really was peak Ken.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 552 ✭✭✭Tucker.Tim

The Rory super fans will have a bad weekend from the looks of things. Can’t get over how invested some of the lads are in a guy hocking a ball around a stupidly manicured course in the first place so it’s all just good fodder for podcast talk to me.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 6,608 ✭✭✭jaykay74

All sport can be dismissed with a similar comment. :) Its all meaningless rubbish just to pass the time.

I thought Gavin Reilly was spot on about Tiger Woods, can't see him competing to win a major again but wouldn't begrudge him his right to play them

I mean, no, golf is first among equals on that front.

The amount of good land that could be used for other purposes wasted on the vanishingly few who play it seriously is remarkable and not something replicated in other sports. The amount of instances of golf clubs working actively against the common good in their communities are so numerous that the only thing that can be done is point you towards Google if you don’t believe me.
