I assume these will be marked in a similar way to other assessments? In that there are 3 categories of difficulty on questions that are based on adaptive assessment, as you perform?

    Easy question, worth 1-2 marks

    Average question, worth 3-4 marks

    Difficult question, worth 5-6 marks

Total 15 questions, marked out of 100. But it doesn’t just go on your score out of 100. Basically we are all put into a pool and marked based on each others performance. So if we all do terribly, someone with 50/100 marks could be number 1!

Is there a minimum threshold I didn't see that in the booklet

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 97 ✭✭Aabbccdd

In the overview section it says candidates must reach the minimum required standard to pass, but they don’t outline exactly what that number is as this style of testing isn’t set in stone like others. The passing mark will be based on the overall results of all applicants accumulated

Just looking at the practice tests again - any tips for that ratio question? I'll have to really study those as I'm lost - not coming up with answers close to the answers given

Does any one fine both practice numerical and verbal difficult? Usually the numerical would be my down fall but, found the verbal tricky. Maybe it is just me !

No and I wouldn't mind some tips myself! I failed that one.

There usually is for numeric, but it doesn't state this anywhere for these assessments.

Numeric yes but that is my downfall 😫 For the verbal; just pay close attention to what the question asks, compared to the info in the paragraphs. Nothing can be inferred.

Had anyone ever done this on an ipad? I’m on holiday at the moment so will be doing it in my hotel room and I’ve either a phone or ipad?

You can use the ipad it's not ideal but it'll do in a bind

Just did aptitude tests now. I found the numerical very tough, way tougher than ones I did previously. Scared I have messed it up and I really want/need HEO this time around 🙈🙈

How long did it go on for? How was the verbal reasoning?

Was the numerical one all graphs or general questions?

Ratios compare two numbers, usually by dividing them.

So if you had 330,000 of A and 450,000 of B and they asked for the ratio of B to A you would divide B by A

    450,000/330,000 = 1.36:1 = 1.3:1

If they ask for the ratio of A to B it would reverse

    330,000/450,000 = 0.73:1 = 0.7:1

I doubt it will come up but I've also seen sample questions around finding the simplest form of a ratio. So if you have 2 numbers - say 160:150 - you find the common factor, which in this case is 10 and divide each number by it. Answer would be 16:15.

Another sample was to find the value within a ratio

The ratio of x and y is 9:5. If x = 81, what is the value of y?

There are a couple of ways to do this.

    1. Divide 81 by 9, then multiply by 5 to get y = 45,
      or
    2. Use the ratio formula x:y = 9:5 y=(5/9) x 81 = 45

Were they way tougher than the sample test questions?

Numerical is very much my strong suit and I found the numerical side of things very tough on this test. Verbal reasoning wasn't too bad although there were a few where I was really torn between a couple of answers.

It's done now and can't be undone so I just have to wait!

sova tests are always very difficult, I failed internal competitions that used them before ☹️

15 mins eaxh one. Mix of graphs and tables

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 138 ✭✭Itchyfeet89

Yeah. I did v well in Aptitude tests 2 years ago but I failed the presentation part of interview but I thought Numerical was way tougher this time around

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 477 ✭✭skidmarkoner

What kind of topics came up? Ratios? % differences?

thanks for explaining this for me. Maybe I’m just having issues understanding/reading the graph as the numbers I’m getting still don’t add up.

Just for my own sanity can someone tell me where I’m going wrong as I have A (Q3 2016) as 300 and B (Q3 2017) as 440.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 523 ✭✭✭gestappo

I did sova for my EO and got fantastic marks. It also helped that it was just a pass rate for the numerical which I don't think is happening in this comp.

This time around I just can't figure out the questions at all.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 200 ✭✭CivilCybil

To be fair to everyone I don't think anyone should say because it gives an unfair advantage.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 983 ✭✭✭furrybones

    A (Q3 2016) = 300 and B (Q3 2017) = 410.

    2017 is the darkest line.

That's 300 to 420 is it not, for that question you don't even really need to work it out as there is only one answer that could possibly fit
