    GOP chair:

“The mainstream media wants us to think of ourselves as a democracy because that leads to socialism.”

It is evident what they think of democracy.

As for the US being better under Trump. How many dead from COVID? One of the world's worst responses when they had time to plan out before it reached them. Is dead better?

If you think Putin will be happy with a "chunk" of Ukraine, I have a bridge to sell you.

Plus, he deserves none of it, pandering to a scumbag like that will just entice him more to keep going. Trump doesn't have the chops to stand up to Putin, he will be walked all over, and thus Ukraine will suffer.

He says all of this when he has no influence, there are no suggestions as to how he would do it. He is a con-artist.

Did you mean going to "DISOBEY" orders as in a treasonous act or are you accepting of the possibility that Trump is acting as an unregistered foreign agent not compliant with the laws of the US? It's irritating the way some people apparently make mistakes in their keyboard writings giving false impressions on the content of their postings and intents.

And if they don't agree? Which is what is the case at the moment.

What will Trump do to get them to agree? We already know. He would cut off funding and so force Ukraine to surrender.

He already threatened to cut funding if they didn't dig up dirt on Biden. So Ukraine are forced to surrender.

Christy, you're forgetting the Trump supporters who wore Red t-shirts at a Trump rally professing a loyalty to living under a different form of governance to that of the US, if given the choice between living in a Democratic country and one run by Putin and his fellows [better red than dead].

Can Trump just cut funding to Ukraine if its neighbours stand up and meet the shortfall?

Is he going to ally America with Russia against Europe.

Threaten to stop gas supplies to Europe if they don't tow the line for example?

There were discussions about a degree of "future proofing" by NATO and some European allies. Not too sure as to the efficacy of those efforts. Like many things, time will tell.

Putin took a chunk of Ukraine in 2014 and has increased his territory-holding of Ukraine since then. Acceding to the thief's demands, even through a proxy like Trump, wont satisfy his greed for more.

This thread every now and then spirals into this...

"The Gish gallop (/ˈɡɪʃ ˈɡæləp/) is a rhetorical technique in which a person in a debate attempts to overwhelm an opponent by abandoning formal debating principles, providing an excessive number of arguments with no regard for the accuracy or strength of those arguments and that are impossible to address adequately in the time alloted to the opponent. Gish galloping prioritizes the quantity of the galloper's arguments at the expense of their quality."

Does it look like Trump would just take away his toys or would he actively take Putin's side against Ukraine as well as any countries who attempted to assist Ukraine?

Would it be all about divvying up Ukraine between USA and Russia into agreed zones of influence?

Could this extend to Nato States with Russian populations that Trump would insist were given recognition of their Russian allegiance?

Might Trump be "more Russian than the Russians" ,acquiescing to any demand or suggestion they made (unless countries like Hungary disagreed)?

Would probably be Trump slashing assistance to the Ukrainians. Again merely conjecture at the moment.

As regards zones, that was among the zanier theories I have seen online. The Russians taking a chunk of the country, leaving a rump state in the west. The more imaginative have Poland and Hungary taking chunks of Ukraine. Again this is similar to the fantasy maps of the Russian Federation being carved up in multiple republics.

"As regards zones, that was among the zanier theories I have seen online"

    Zanier as compared to what?

Russia does not want Ukrainian territory?

    Is that not a zone?

How big a "zone" does Russia covet and how much will Trump give it if he is able?

The Zanier theories were that Ukraine on its backfoot, would then be invaded by Western countries such as Poland and Hungary. As opposed to just being invaded by one of its neighbours.

As regards Russian goals there were different suggestions put forward. One was the Donbas, another was everything east of the Dnipro river, another was including Odessa and a land corridor to the Transnistria.

Unfortunately with the amount of blood and treasure Putin has sunk into his invasion, he will want to try to dictate terms. Regardless of whether it is Biden, Trump, Harris or another in the Whitehouse.

Regarding any brokered settlement - what security guarantees would Ukraine receive that Russia could not invade again.

If Putin felt able to go again, he would simply accuse Ukraine of breaching whatever terms were reached and use this as a casus belli.

The "Truth Social" post could be likened-to a disclaimer from a person running for re-election after the failure of the Capitol Building event in Washington, in which he IS directly implicated, forced a reversal and retreat in tactics by him and his criminal pals. It's similar to a "plausible deniability" claim to avoid arrest, charge and conviction in a court of law for some-one who's already had a close brush with the law in the past.

When it comes to using media and linked agencies, t's worth refreshing one's memories on the recent history of the whole Trump election campaign from 2015 onwards. Cambridge Analytics was abandoned by ALL the political heads involved in using it as a tool to spread disinformation and damage.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 4,922 ✭✭✭amandstu

Is that Zany?If Russia is making huge inroads into the whole of Ukraine would Ukraine not welcome an "invasion" from Poland (not Hungary I would have thought as they would be on Russia's side)

This whole fing war is "zany".Its developments are bound to be concomitantly outlandish.

Putin will want what Putin will want but imo Trump will just deliver him his wish almost as if he anticipates his desires.

Nothing too bad can really be said about Trump -sadly we get used to his hellish psychic landscape.

Interestingly the said could be said about Putin.

It's not an official one because it wasn't an act of the President if the US, it was an act by someone who held the office

    ..

Everything I don't like is either woke or fascist - possibly both - pick one.

You can’t have an intelligent or objective debate with a MAGA supporter because they neither have intelligence or objectivity, they simply are cult members want to run the ar5e of Trump.

Best deal with them like what they are; degenerate scum.

Both Russia and Ukraine are in a bad place. The west are keeping Ukraine going by slowly feeding them enough equipment to hurt Russia but there is clearly no intention in the west to help Ukraine win the war.

If Trump gets in I suspect he will try for a fast settlement, not an ideal settlement. I think Trump would stop that war but yes there would be every chance of it flaring up again in the future. However, both sides will sign up as they are both in a poor position.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 8,569 ✭✭✭Jinglejangle69

    What a load of nonsense.

You know nothing of what the Ukrainians will do.

    Stop spouting lies.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 5,321 ✭✭✭jackboy

Lies🤣. I was clearly giving an opinion. I believe eventually there will be negotiations and Ukraine will give up territory to Russia. That is not a lie, its an opinion.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 95 ✭✭gneel

Biden should call them deplorables. That'll win the election.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 2,823 ✭✭✭randd1

Degenerate scum sounds so much better.

    And apt.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 8,569 ✭✭✭Jinglejangle69

Straight out of the Russian propaganda book.

Ukraine will have to accept a deal that of course cedes territory to Putin and his cronies.

You have no evidence that this will happen.

    So yes it is lies.

That's always the way bullies work isn't it, you give them what they want and they leave your alone forever more. It's a one time deal, they are decent like that...

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 15,242 ✭✭✭✭Danzy

Unfortunately that is the reality unless Ukraine is flooded with money and advanced weaponry. Even then it will be the reality

As you point out the west only gave Ukraine enough to hold Russia not beat them.

    Nor will that change now.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 5,321 ✭✭✭jackboy

Instead of calling opinions lies and now propaganda how about you give your opinion on what will happen with the war if Trump gets elected.

After a point you get diminishing returns, 1 is cash doesnt buy weapons that dont exist , 2 it takes trained soldiers/airmen to use advanced weapons which may not exist/or are running short
