I Just purchased a brand new mauser m18 in 308 any recommendations for what bullet they like the most. Its primary purpose is Deer hunting so what ammunition does yours like best for that purpose. Thanks

I don’t have an M18, but my M12 loves Norma tipstrike.

I picked it up yesterday and the lads said it's not a picky rifle they suggested a Winchester power max bonded and fiocchi performance lline both in 150 grain . I haven't shot it yet but we'll see .Neither of the two would be considered premium price so if it kill deer it kills deer imo

ah lad. I’m sure it’ll hit and all that - but on a previous rifle of the same make - Winchester just couldn’t do the job and had no expansion - your call - but if hunting, you might only shoot 10/15 rounds a year… so getting performance ammo for €3/4 a round isn’t that expensive.

It's not that expensive when you break it down like that. I have used the super x winchester 180G before no issues dropped pretty much on the spot .I've got a box of 178g persission hunter too my old rifle didn't take to it . See how this one goes. I just dont want to spend a fortune on ammunition 50/60 quid a box for 20 shooting 5/6 different loads and brands to shoot paper and theres 300 quid of ammo the safe that it doesn't like. I've a box of FMJ to run her in and 3 different hunting loads to be getting on with hoping one of them is consistent grouping after that I don't care what works as long as something works. If they are all consistent then I'll have to see how they work on animals . I would have picked up a box of the Norma you suggested if I had your message earlier if none of these 3 work out then I'll given them a go . Thanks again. 👍

Well I tried out the 3 types of ammunition Fiocchi came out on top then the hornady and the Winchester was third gonna grab a box of the Norma and give it a go too but as far as groups go the Fiocchi giving me very good group's.

Yeah but I think there's an issue with them. The bullet is a hornady and fiocci seemingly don't have the licence to produce them any more. I've had 3 holes touching out of 5shots in a sub inch group with them can't fault them. How you like the American white tail. Also hornady is it?

I just zeroed my Sauer 100 (very similar to the mauser)

I was given a box of Hornady 150ge SST by dealer as that's what he and others have been using on deer.

I was able group 3 shots touching one after other. Not a cheap round but accurate and i would say neck shot only on deer as they are ballistic tip

Yeah the EPN is an SST bullet in a fiocchi case from what I was told. Hornady licenced fiocchi to produce it. Sauer and Mauser are part of the Blasser group. I'd imagine the 100 Sauer is an M18 with better bolt on bits the stock seems heavier nicer to the touch and more dence the bottom metal is actual metal probably the ceracote is probably better too. The barrel and action seem to be the same from looking at them side by side. No offence ment. I'm happy with my set-up

i think there are a lot of interchangeable parts. I find the sauer bolt very smooth but a the ejector pins are so strong it takes bit of a hard push at end to overcome them and engage the extractor lug.

should break in after some shooting.

Yeah they're smooth as slik without slop . My dream one is the 101 ATA but I couldn't get a lefty on short notice and I didn't want to miss part of the season waiting for 1 . I've absolutely no complaints with the mauser. I put a kalex cheek riser on it got a minox rs4 3-12x56 scope that's great in low light and a spartan tac long bipod can't fault the set up. It'll out perform the shooter
