I think that's harsh. Not so much on Ross but there were horrific decisions made around the team. He's an easy scapegoat but realistically, who put their hand up today bar Josh.

because the Toulouse one wasn’t a knock on.

the question was whether he deliberately slapped it into touch and he obviously didn’t.

Thought I was having a minor freak out there when I saw 2 zebras on the pitch 🤣

It was. Drifted to the left at the dying moment. But I think there was a scrum advantage, he probably shouldn't have taken the drop attempt. A scrum would likely lead to a pen as we were killing their scrum.

I felt it when we beat La Rochelle that the rock, paper, scissors was going to invert and we'd lose to Toulouse.

    **** shite buzz

He was on his arse. He wasn't the reason we lost but he rode us dry.

unlucky leinster, played the better rugby , but need to keep the scoreboard ticking over when you get the opportunity.

No shame in losing to that Toulouse side.

Leinster played the better rugby. Toulouse played the smarter rugby.

They need to move Cullen upstairs somewhere and let Nienaber run the team.

Seems to be a similar trait with Ireland in the World Cup.

They just cant seem to deliver a performance when its really needed.

Pressure seems to get the better of them unfortunately.

But it wasn't a YC all day long as in the first half when Roumat (?) Did similar.

Attempts at drop kicks were brutal!

Yes but it's a yellow card for slapping the ball into touch.

The only remotely marginal decisions Leinster got were called by touch judges. It was pretty farcical to watch

Watched the same game you did, and disagree. And I'd be willing to bet I'm more objective than most Leinster fans.

If you think Carley was remotely objective watch how long it took to give the holding on penalty against Sheehan's line break versus Sheehan's (?) for Leinster on the half way line. He has little interest in giving Leinster a call

3 finals lost and as far as I can remember ref got blame 3 times..,... Same as when Ireland get knocked out. Time to look inward and learn to play a ref. I though maybe the yellow card the ref was clear in his decisions. Team needs to adapt their game. Points left out there by simply thinking that you should go for the corner at all times

Good for you if you feel you're more objective but I did watch the same game. He was lightning quick to penalise Leinster in the ruck, let Toulouse ride the clock etc.

As I said, he's not the reason Leinster lost. Their lack of ability and mentality failed them but Carley was very very poor.

Carling was inconsistent but those inconsistencies were irrelevant to the match outcome. I'm following this thread because all the cribbing and moaning is entertaining.

Meanwhile people in Toulouse now don't give a flying f**k what Leinster fans think about the referee

Blaming Ross Byrne and Leo Cullen is ridiculous.

Yes you need a top quality ten but he'll be there next year as I'm assuming that's where Jordy Barrett will play.

Ross Byrne did not cost Leinster the Champions cup today.

Leo has got you to three consecutive Champions cup finals. He's not a problem. Just because you haven't got over the line, and through mistakes on the field on each occasion, it's not his fault.

Id disagree, Byrne was not good eneogh, nor was the midfield, but with a commanding quality 10 Leinster would have won that.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 259 ✭✭Cork29

what if they did not kick the corner all the time?

The Leinster coaching collective not forcing an injured, underperforming Byrne off the pitch was pretty incredible too.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2, Paid Member Posts: 42,698 ✭✭✭✭eagle eye

Well I'm not a Leinster fan and I'm objective and I disagree with you. Carley was awful.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 5,280 ✭✭✭Paul Smeenus

I don't like the way Carley refs, but he was Carley. Consistent, if slapdash. Watched Henshaw play the ball to the backline from the back of the ruck while on his knees, for example.

If we're honest, the team was generally fine today up to a certain point. Once it got into the 22, they just lacked composure and intelligence. Too many terrible calls in attack.

    It's between the ears.

Toulouse, and particularly Dupont, had it. Leinster couldn't have exhibited less game intelligence.

Hugh Cahill and Donal Lenihan are poor - biased and emotional.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 5,280 ✭✭✭Paul Smeenus

Fine. I didn't think he was good. But I didn't think he was inconsistent.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 37,259 ✭✭✭✭SlickRic

Cullen essentially has the Irish team at his disposal. Finals are a bare minimum. He has every advantage imaginable.

    My 2 cents:

Furlong: good stamina, scrummaged well, several jackle chances he shied away from. 7.5

Sheehan: mostly good darts, good scrum, great line break, unlucky penalty on their line- I thought DuP just flopped on him. 8

Porter: an amazing shift, pinged in a scrum, plenty of effort but not much end product. 7

Jenkins: loses ball in contact too often, good heft but we need more from a lock. 6

McCarthy: needless pen concession, good shift, will be a mainstay for a few years. 7.5

Ryan: good shift for such little rugby of late, but couldn't really impose self on game. 6.5

Connors: tackled everything that moved but didn't seem to carry that much. 6.5

Baird: honest effort, good line out work but more needed. 7

Doris: great carrying, good lines, bad decision making as captain, criminal penalty concession at crucial moment. 6

Conan: didn't impose himself on game. 6

VdF: should have been on at the start, a great effort. 8

JGP: solid but bossed by the boss. 7.5

Byrne: good but not great. Leinster 10 needs to be great. 6

Henshaw: tough day at the office but didn't do much wrong in defence, not as effective in attack today. 7

Osborne: was targeted all day, stood up to it quite well but it was a big ask for someone as fresh as him, he'll have better days. 6.5

Lowe: should have done more, couldn't impose himself into game, unlucky yellow. 6

Larmour: lively but not much attacking end product, JOB would prob have been a better call. 6

Keenan: a reliable performance but nowhere near the heights he can hit, pressure of Toulouse kept him in his box. 6

Frawley: pity he didn't see more game time, hasty decision to drop goal when we had scrum advantage, but correct to attempt second drop, his cameo was a better performance than Byrne. 6.5

Healy: got isolated and coughed up a crucial pen, looked a bit unsure in open play, disappointed he couldn't make a difference. 6.5

Kelleher: did relatively well, unlucky that his career coincides with Sheehan, might have done more had he been on for more minutes in regulation time. 6.5

Ala'alatoa: didn't do much wrong but couldn't make much of a difference. 7
