Those values look like very poor value. Quick question, is it an ID3/4? But it sounds like your local garage doesn't want a 3 year old car back as a trade in. They can't offer you less than your GMFV. It means guaranteed minimum future value. And you either take that value as the amount you need to pay to own car, or not. And walk away, like a 3 year lease.

Sad to see zero equity, after your outstanding loan after 3 years. Deposit gone, APR cost of finance gone.

The car has to be worth paying the 17k for to keep it instead of paying another 1.6k and then walk away with nothing. PCP is a real pain in the neck in the current climate, you pay good money monthly for 3 years and are then pretty much forced to take another loan to pay the balloon not to get into the same mess again in 3 years time.

The HP over five years would be more preferable in my opinion because then you actually have something to show for your monthly payments.

As VW sold lots of ID.X on sky high prices since 2021 the second hand market will stay depressed for years to come. You know your current car so the best is to just keep driving it for a few more years. You can't buy any comparable second hand car for 17k minus the 1.6k over mileage charge.

Just a question- I understand that if he traded the car in against another car the dealer would have to allow the full value of 17k. However given that finance could be with VWFS has the dealer no flexibility in pricing to shift the car? The other thing I wonder about is that a high mileage 3yr old ID3 should be worth about 20k?

VW themselves think so. I just cheked the website and the new ID.3 Pro 77 kWh with basic everything is 41k new, 20k balloon, 4k deposit (minimum) is 631 per month on 36 month PCP. This is pretty grim. HP over 60 months is 692.

I think pcp is brilliant as you are protected against depreciation. Especially if you had a 0% finance deal as I’m sure op did.

I agree with PCP. It's a decent financial product, that allows people to get a new car for less monthly. But in this case buyer has lost depreciation value, and deposit, and APR cost of finance.

I've had 4 PCP cars now. And there has always been some equity on top of GMFV after 3 years. It usually matches size of initial deposit/ trade in. It's just all a very expensive exercise.

If it was me I would keep the car, as VW wants up to 20 to buy a 3 year old car. So at least you get to keep a car you know has been looked after.

^ that’s why you should minimise apr and deposit and monthly’s and maximise your gfmv. Mind yer own equity. That’s my way of looking at it anyway.

Thanks guys/gals: APR now with VW is 6.5 which it much less attractive.

I will keep the car but will explore the BS they came up with.

USING ANROD PHONE WITH GOOGLE MAPS.

Smashed my One plus One android on site last week so had to buy a replacement one in a hurry to complete a job.

It's an Honor 70 Lite which is running android v 12. was 160 in Three

Anyway it doesn't work consistently in the car, says searching for GPS at some stages, drops off at other stages and at other points just leave me with blank screen: in all a pain.

So is the issue the phone? or some update to the already crap VW software.

The old phone worked seamlessly with maps.

My iPhone works fine in the car

    Any thoughts?

    Thanks as always

You sure the PCP figure is right? VW are doing 0% PCP on the ID3 as far as I'm aware so the payments should be - (41,000 - 20,000 - 4,000)/36 = €472

I did a quick search at the website on the day. The rates may also have changed between then and now. I was just curious.

Worked first time, no drama so the Honor s/w is the issue

85k on clock, what can I expect, will it fix auto dim, bendy lights, app on phone or do I need to ask them specifically

    Thanks

on the bendy lights, do you have the front bad weather lights/ fog lights switched on? It’s a while since I used them but I noticed that the headlights didn’t bend around corners (the same way at least) when they were on.

    No, never used them.

The two items failed after about 6 moths and the first recall/service 2 yrs ago failed to fix them.

Al Hayes in Portumna couldn't be arsed which is why I am going to Limerick

That’s really bad, I’ll be steering clear of Al Hayes.Hopefully the Limerick service dept is better.

Got good service this am : processing was done in 7 minutes including sorting the insurance.

Collecting it next Monday, unless they brick it😂

Got it back at lunchtime yesterday, when I asked why so soon, computer worked!

What did the update do?: don't know, they dont tell us.

Service 199 euro, looks like I missed the 30k and 60 k services so not bad for 3 years!

Must say was impressed with the service experience from Frank Hogan

Paid off the PCP today, so c 38,500 in total for some think which is hardly worth 10,000

In passing, anyone have the wheel nut torque setting to hand for the ID3

why €10k? Is there something wrong with it?

I got a trade in value of €16k on mine as have others and that’s for the entry spec.. you have the higher spec one I think so you should get a bit more.

    90k on mine too.

You should be getting €16k+ for yours, which isnt that bad for a 3-4yr old car that was €37k new. Its about 50% depreciation which is the right ball park.

Sounds entirely correct, or has the usage over the first 36 months been mysteriously forgotten?

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 13,357 ✭✭✭✭Calahonda52

Post service brakes seems to be more aggressive.

    any thoughts?

Am I correct in understanding that this was the car's first service (at 85k)?

What did they do for the service?

Did you get a loaner while the car was in?

    Thanks!

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 13,357 ✭✭✭✭Calahonda52

12v battery was charged at about 15k and the computer data for service said 2 years out from there, said nothing about mileage

yes re loaner as it was a"sort of recall" and not a routine service. will dig out invoice next week

    3 questions:

1: what ambient temperature does it need to be so as the battery heating does not clock in?

2: when would you expect to see range reduction in the ID3: its just gone past 91,000 kms after 40 months

3: other than less range on full charge how can it be accessed?

    [58kW battery] [showed 287kms at 100% this morning, ambient 10.5 C]

[range reduction is obvious in the Leaf with the 12 bars]

    Thanks as always
