Does this mean that Irvine Welsh is on next week's podcast?

In a way he's been doing the same thing ever since.

Fianna Fáil MEP Barry Andrews said his cousin Ryan Tubridy was “vindicated” following last year’s scandal in RTÉ.

Mr Andrews said the former Late Late Show host “handled himself well” during the payments controversy that dominated the headlines for most of last summer.

    Vindicated ?

    In what way ?

That looks like a gutter press link so I wouldn’t be giving them the click.

He thinks that he was vindicated by the report. Same thing as Tubz was saying in the statement before he was let go.

Demoted to redtops, like Bertie Ahern.

Vindicated by scarpering with over €300,00 of public money ?

Ridiculous for Andrews to comment like that given the family connection. He should just say it wouldn't be appropriate to comment on that but on a personal level he wishes him well in London etc

    The rehabilitation/re-integration begins…..

It took Bertie what 10-15 years to get back in, so they're hoping to get Ryan back into Montrose a lot sooner…

The listening figures must have been 'poor', so the efforts to get him 'back home' will now intensify (so he can walk before being pushed).

“I would say this about Ryan. I wish him well and I was delighted when I saw that he was getting back on the air again. I think that is what he does magnificently and fantastically and I think he needed to get back on the air behind a microphone as quickly as possible."

Another article from today. Think that they're really panicking because I doubt that he has much time left on Virgin. He has been an unmitigated disaster over there. Trying to call in favours in order to get back in RTE. You really couldn't make this stuff up.

I wouldn't say Bertie is back in, an attempt to run for the Aras would rekindle a lot of bad memories and more bad press for Fianna Fail at a time when they're already sliding in the polls.

All that's happened perhaps is that the hate for him has probably degraded to a simmering that can easily ratchet up to an inferno if stoked.

Cheerleading for Tubs looks like a risky move atm. Dobson hasn't really anything to lose but it could backfire on the politician cousin.

Q102 is on in a taxi I’m in at the moment. It’s like speed gibberish. Hard to understand what he’s even saying. It’s babble and at x3 normal speed. He’s clearly not well

They should ask David Andrews aka David McSavage if he agrees with his brother that their cousin has been vindicated by the report!

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 1,559 ✭✭✭hawley

He has defended Tubz on numerous occasions, so he probably would agree with that belief.

Probably an attempt by Andrews to get attention for himself as the Euro elections are coming up in a few weeks. Might not even have got a mention only for the Tubridy connection.

Has he? Never saw anything like that. I always got the impression he hated Tubs. Primarily because he first appeared on the Late Late Show in Pat Kenny's time and was then blacklisted off it for the whole of his cousin's tenure. He's whinged about that in a few places, including on his own podcast.

You got me thinking there hawley -

The whole retiring thing can be quite suspect

Eileen Dunne for instance. Off ya go there Eileen, have a fantastic retirement, enjoy the hefty pension and thanks for everything -

Oh look, there's Eileen now having a little dance on DWTS and a quick google of the articles on her on the usual rag websites (Evoke etc) looks all very familiar

Eileen: "There are a lot good people in RTE and Ryan is one of them"

    Good girl Eileen

Dr Marie Cassidy - Off ya go now and enjoy your retirement, enjoy the hefty pension and TYFYS

Oh look, there's Marie now having a little dance on DWTS - Here's Marie's media career that only seems to be RTE related mainly on Forbesy's (GWS) watch:-

Since retiring as state pathologist in 2018, Cassidy has fronted series for RTÉ including Dr. Cassidy's Casebook where she revisited some of the most memorable investigations of her career.[7] In August 2022, she took part in the documentary Cold Case Collins, a retrospective look at the assassination of Irish revolutionary, Michael Collins on the hundredth anniversary of his death.[8]

In January 2023, Cassidy appeared on the sixth series of Dancing with the Stars Ireland. She was partnered with Stephen Vincent and was eliminated 2nd overall in week 4, finishing in 10th place.

Also on the LLS and radio interviews with CB too - How could that possibly happen to a spleen disecter? I'm at a loss to even hazard a guess

Could the Dobster end up on DWTS partnered with maybe Gina Murphy (Hugo's restaurant and friend of RTE)? - Could he get a CA slot on RTE radio on €170k pa for an hour long show once a week for c40 weeks pa? - Is there a powerful individual in the media world capable of arranging that? Who knows

Bryan Dobson - He's not gone away y'know

Ryan Tubridy’s cousin David McSavage has defended the presenter amid his ongoing pay controversy and believes the RTE star shouldn't have to pay back any money to the station.

The comedian reacted to the former Late Late Show host being paid €345,000 more over a five-year period than was previously declared, causing outrage among license fee payers and staff at RTE. He told us that the barter account is a "crazy" method for a company to operate - but didn’t believe Ryan owed it to anybody to pay back any money – unless it was illegally obtained.

Ryan Tubridy’s cousin has said that the former Late Late Show host was thrown “under the bus” as public outrage over the RTÉ payments scandal continues.

Comedian David McSavage, whose real name is David Andrews, was speaking after it emerged that his cousin received €345,000 more over the last six years than was publicly disclosed.

“He’s had a very good run and I’m sure he will continue after this to have a very successful career,” he told the Irish Mirror.

McSavage said that Tubridy was thrown “under the bus” or “used as a scapegoat”

Knowing David McSavage's twisted humour and his barbs at Tubs in the past this really is him being a devil. It's almost like he's goading Tubs to attack RTE again.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 1,143 ✭✭✭Hyperbollix

@hawley Fair enough. I suppose it's possible he could think Tubs did no wrong and owes no one anything while still thinking he's a little bastárd for keeping him off primetime RTE.

The pomposity of Mr. Dobson's retirement was odd in the extreme. Again perhaps it was because I am always looking for stuff about RTÉ and a lot of the celebrity stuff gets in the way. It followed the death of an RTÉ producer and no offence to the producer but he had a number of articles written up about him over the course of 2 weeks, I doubt that any body in a similar role in CIE or ESB or An Post will get the same kind of send off.

Perhaps it is my distasted for RTÉ at the moment that cause me to think why any of these people deserve any kind of send off other than the normal wake.

Mike Murphy is gone from RTÉ at least 25 years, honestly who under the age of 30 remembers him, he's a lifetime away. And sure didn't he get a return on some chat show during the down turn, bit of a dig out no? But wait for his death or his return to TV or Radio and it will be as if people know who he is. (Though perhaps he could bring back Candid Camera and do it properly).

I see Zoo Live has returned the 2FM star replaced by an "someone who thinks she is someone and a former TV3 presenter".*

*Sorry the 2FM star was just one of the celebs put to work in the ZOO.

Is it really that odd? RTE likes to laud its own and they were saying goodbye to one of the station's heavyweights. Whether you like it or not, TV and radio presenters have a very different relationship with the public than the CEOs of 99% of companies. They're business people and they're not meant to be well known.

Bryan Dobson is a household name and has been a fixture on current affairs radio and TV for decades. He had a very solid career in RTE and was good at his job. Unlike Tubridy whose shortcomings have been highlighted here, Dobson is a presenter who would've done a good job on British TV. You can argue about how well he was paid, but he was working in an era when RTE were overpaying everybody. You can be sure that when Joe Duffy hangs up his headphones, Bryan Dobson's departure will be overshadowed in a big way.

Dobson was a (well-paid) professional that put some others in the RTÉ newsroom to shame I thought.

In other news, today's guest is … Paul Howard. The joke that stopped being funny after the Celtic Tiger choked.

I haven't watched it, but saw there's 8 episodes listed in the channel bio. Also interesting to see the other NK podcast with Matt Cooper and Ivan Yates pull in 5K viewers compared to 1K on average Tubridy's bookshelf.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 5,786 ✭✭✭yagan

Is it now a case of everyone else's fees to the NK stable funding the maintenance of the RT brand?

Tubs discussing the final episode of Seinfeld, where everyone involved in the show got an engraved Cartier watch

He then starts listing many of the gifts he got on the LLS: Guitar from Ed Sheeran, Vespa from U2 etc

"But I never got a Cartier watch"
