Just checking playoff dates to see am i off, bringing back bad memories of derby.

Realistically Ipswich just need 1 point from two games. We won't beat Southampton.

Our form and confidence is shot to sh1t.

It's the hope that kills you

But this is the same Southampton side who have lost their last 3 games, and will probably rotate players to keep them fresh for the play offs.

Also in the top 6, West Brom have lost their last 3 games, Norwich drew 3 out of their last 4. Literally no-one is in good form going into those play offs.

It doesn't take a lot to score against us lately. Summerville is predictable, his cut in is being dealt with. rutter is off the boil tries to do too much and loses it even in our half, our set pieces are poor, we don't have a striker we can rely on, gnonto seems to do a lot but I can't see what his "thing" is, crosses? Beating lads on the wing? Cutting inside? Link up play with give and go? Finding space on the edge of the box to hit the target??

I don't know what it is but we seem to find it extremely difficult to get space in midfield and when we lose it the opposition has acres.

I struggle to see what Piroe brings, be it when starting or coming off the bench. Never seems to be the better of criticism [on here anyway].

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 3,156 ✭✭✭Ceist_Beag

Piroe has been a big disappointment. He knows how to finish but adds very little to the team. Maybe in a better team he would be great but he's a luxury we can't really afford.

    everything will be fine.

V disappointing. Had hopes he d be nailed on starter. Seems v cumbersome and touch is poor. Certainly won't be pl starter.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 3,113 ✭✭✭iseegirls

It's also amazing how we seem to offer zero threat from corners.

yea, maybe, I just never try to overreact to the teams i support, it’s not easy, you have every other team trying to achieve the same thing, not enough room for everyone. Obviously when owners or teams at time clearly don’t care or consistently make bad decisions then yes, criticism is justified but for me, if a team like Leeds this season that absolutely we’re brilliant for 90% of the year then how could anyone complain, it’s just unfortunate now we are struggling a bit, I just think we ran out of steam a bit. Stil not over for automatic and we have a very very solid chance in playoffs, I would have a lot of confidence in Farke in the playoffs

I think it's all on Tuesday as I expect both us and Ipswich to win our final games. If Ipswich get a point or more on Tuesday then we're done as they are definitely beating Huddersfield. If Coventry beat Ipswich then I would have us as huge favourites to go up.

Yeah, absolutely no criticism from me, this season has been great, especially after last summer and the doom and gloom around the club. Someone on here made the very valid point that none of the teams in the playoffs are in form so it's a lottery really.

Sad thing is as bad as the top 6 have been, Coventry have been worse. Over the last 6 games, only Rotherham have less points. And that's when they thought they could get play offs. They have gone off the boil completely, the FA Cup took it out of them.

This for me too. You always get games where for whatever reason, you just don't show up. It's just a pity that ours had to be this one. We all new that two wins would get us up as Ipswich were going to struggle to win the last three.

Overall, I've loved this season given where we were before the window closed at the end of August.

Someone mentioned the away end emptying out on Friday. Guilty as charged. Left at 3 - 0 and heard the roar for the 4th as we were heading for the tube.

What happens now ? Ipswich beat Coventry and we go into the final day just as we did last season, hoping for a miracle, hope that will last as long as it took Harry Kane to score for Spurs that day, all of 2 minutes.

Assuming we stay in the championship, thoughts on what we will need to do squad wise? Obviously there are a lot of assumptions here that may not bear out.

    Summerville, Gnonto, Rutter all sold.

    Cooper, Ayling, Shacks all released.

Rodon, Anthony, Roberts go back to parent clubs.

    Then positions we will need:

GK - Ok here for champo

RB - Need a RB here.

CB - Need one CB, though we are ok with Struijk, Ampadu and Cresswell. Not as good as Rodon but good enough for this league.

LB - Ok here with Firpo

CM - Gray, Gruev, Kamara. Fine here.

Wingers - James. Going to need a lot of signings here of quality.

ST - For the way I reckon DF wants us to play, we will need a striker, a clinical one who can press.

I'd love us to go for Sara from Norwich, Clarke from Sunderland, Latte Lath from Boro as our attackers.

8 minutes is all it took.

Ipswich are not inflicted with the bottle-jobbery gene to the extent that Leeds are.

Ipswich the better team all around this season.

Can overcome a low block in their sleep.

Absolute joke defending. That's that anyway.

I'll be back when the transfer window opens

Overcome a low block in their sleep.

Or in 3 more games than Leeds did. We both won the exact same amount of games.

I'd love to go to a home game next year.

I seem to rember hearing about an exchange of some sort. Does anyone know where I sign up to it or how to get tickets?

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 21,993 ✭✭✭✭Mushy

Imagine it'll still be hard to get tickets, but think you've to be a member of some level for it. Going through something like Champions Travel could be best way to guarantee a ticket, albeit pricier.

So what now? WBA, Norwich or Hull in the play-offs. Despite our form we’ll probably win over two legs. Final v Saints? No way of predicting how that’d go.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 3,156 ✭✭✭Ceist_Beag

I honestly couldn't predict how the playoffs will go. Form has gone out the window so it's really down to who can regroup, defend well as a team and get the little bit of magic or luck needed at the other end. Despite what some posters continue to claim, our defence is good and I would think that gives us some hope. However as I mentioned last week, the lack of options at the back is a worry should anyone pick up a knock. No Struijk or Roberts, can Byram play two matches in quick succession, do we have to sacrifice Gray in midfield if not, none of that is ideal. I would hope that Gruev and Kamara can regain the form they showed in January, February and March. If we are to go up via the playoffs I think it has to be our defence that gets us there.

We have the best team and best squad of any of the teams in the Playoffs. However we are in terrible form and the heads seem to have gone completely. Farke has a big job on his hands to get them going again. If he can then we will be favourites to go up although we all know our Playoffs record!

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 5,609 ✭✭✭10000maniacs

That means they ground out 3 more results than Leeds did.

And while Leeds have a better record against the top 6 sides, Ipswich have a much better record against the poorer sides who tend to low block to get a result.

They have 3 players who seem to be able to stick it in the back of the net to order when they are needed against the "low block" sides.

To be honest, and it pains me to say it, but Gray has nice touches in midfield, but doesn't dictate a game. He seems to me to float around without doing major damage to the opposition. He is limited at RB when pacy wingers really expose him. One thing is, round 2 versus the same wingers, either he, or we as a team, play them better.

Waccoe is full of the usual doom merchants regarding Farke. "Leaves subs too late", "puts on subs too early" "Shouldn't play Piroe, Bamford, Gnonto or whoever………" Fake went into that job with one hand tied behind his back. We made late signings, and a January window signing with Roberts. I don't think for a minute Piroe is a Farke player, but was the best available at the time. I'm sure if you had turned around to Farke at the beginning he would have bought players more suited to his own system. Who was he supposed to bring on with 20 minutes to go to change a game? Piroe - not a game changer. Joseph - same as Bamford, but more liable to be sent off. James = Summerville = Gnonto = Anthony. Rutter was brought back too soon after surgery, he wasn't the same player, but his invention and skills were badly missed.

I think the effect of a season long chase really banjaxed us at the end. To reel in 17 points and go top was an achievement that will live long in my memory even if we don't go up. Get big money in, clear out the rat bastids and give Farke the team he wants. We have a good management structure now, if we can generate cash and keep within PSR I think we'll flake this division next season.

Let's also hope the three coming down don't do a Leicester.
