West Ham are so bad to watch.

i'd say liverpool have the 2nd best squad in the league so are really under achieving this season

Dour first half. No atmosphere and the game being played at walking pace at times.

Diaz hit the post and Bowen scored a header and not much else happened.

Has to be better than that.

Obviously many didn’t think that at the start of the season. Chelsea had signed 2 DMs Liverpool were after and were in many pundits predictions to improve.

Anyway I’d probably agree with you on squad strength, but id say Arsenal have the best starting XI, who they’ve managed to keep fit for most of the season.

So I’d disagree that they’re underachieving. Not good enough to compete with City but good enough for a CL place is about right.

Bizarre incident towards the end of the West Ham v Liverpool game. Referee blows up play with Gakpo charging down the ball. Was it a free kick to West Ham, I didn't hear a whistle? Was it that Areola was injured? Didn't see him gesture to the ref.

Gakpo should have just stuck it in the net and let Taylor sort it out imo.

Putting Salah on with just 11mins left when they needed a win is crazy imo.

Down to 2 now you would think for the title...

While I understand there is a bit of common sense to this one….its another Taylor controversy…

Areola take a bit of a knock collecting the ball and takes a bit to get up, but whistle is NOT blown

He then proceeds to drop the ball (He thinks he has a free) way out in the box and nowhere near where he took a knock, he fixes his socks

Gapko charges down, Taylor realises the mixup and blows…even though technically the ball is in play

What makes it worse is Taylor seems to talk to Aerola and tells him to go down and call for Medics when Aerlo clearly does not want them!!!!

He then gives a drop ball, (Not the free kick) to restart play, confirming ball was actually in play the first time….😁

But remember Taylor is the Best UK ref for the Euros…

Maybe another audio release is in order…and again in this case I do think it was common sense, but its still important to hear these events and what is said.

I think the ref has made a massive mistake there. I'd love to hear the ref's mic. It looked like Areola feigned injury when the ref went over to him to save both of their blushes, possibly at the behest of the referee. Maybe I'm wrong.

Of course he should have - no reason not to.

No whistle was blown when the keeper caught the ball, so when he threw it out Gakpo had every right to score.

Ref then went in and said he was stopping the game because the keeper was Unwell - utter tripe.

The keeper fucked up and then the ref fucked up in stopping Gakpo from shooting.

Gakpo should have shot no matter what.

"Gakpo should have shot no matter what."

Ya, but then he risks getting a yellow card.

He couldn't have booked Gakpo for kicking the ball (taking the shot) as the ball was in play though?

Doesn't matter. A forward has to go in and hit the back of the net when an opportunity arises in that situation.

    Argue the case afterwards.

There was a few incidents with Taylor alright, that last one will take the attention. The non-red card was bad too, especially with VAR able to see it again. You can somewhat understand that Coufal corner thing near the end as it he might not have had full view as it came in quick but the stopping Gakpo scoring was just odd.

Glosses over 2 average performances from the clubs playing though, who are limping to the end of the season. Liverpool unlucky perhaps, hitting the post a couple times. West Ham took their chances. Bowen is some player. For his own sake I hope he gets a good attacking manager next season. I think he is a bit too old for a big move now, given the money that will be required to acquire him.

Its one of the more thinly veiled Tribalistic posts I've seen around here in a while for sure!

Liverpool have been overachievring for the last 10 years. What they achieved under Klopp has been nothing short of incredible. Its not surprising they've come back to still overachieving, but just not as outrageous as before. In the last 5 years United, Chelsea, Arsenal, City, Newcastle, Spurs, Villa and West Ham all have a higher next spent then Liverpool. In the last 5 years United, Chelsea, Arsenal, Spurs, Arsenal and West Ham has all spent more money on players than Liverpool. Its very difficult to consistently keep challenging for titles in those conditions.

In the last 5 years United have a net spent of -£594m, Liverpool’s is -£221m. In the last 5 years United have spent just under £1BN in player, Liverpool have spent £660m. Last season Uniteds wage bill was £211m, Liverpools was £158m.

It's mad to think that despite spending so much money, all United got out of it was a "notorious collection of failures." while Liverpool challenged for titles and won trophies.

I thought the ref blew the whistle as Gakpo was running towards the ball?

Ah jaysus, net spend is back.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 5,638 ✭✭✭The White Wolf

Yellow wouldn't have mattered if VAR was triggered anyway, assuming Taylor was shown to have fucked up.

It's one of those things where wileyness is needed, and Gakpo was probably just too green to show it. If it was a cuter player like Nunez I think it would have been vastly different fallout.

    Incredible really.

They should be winning the treble every season. Talk about underachieving

1 pl in 9 years. What you'd expect from the amount they've spent

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 527 ✭✭✭bdmc16

Vast bulk of those players were all injured for large chunk of season and the whole midfield was sold and brought new at the same time this season having to bed in . Clueless comment

Given awful finish season last season, trophy and CL was all most Liverpool would for wished for. He’s over achieved massively until mid march’s .

What United and Chelsea have "achieved" given the money both teams have spent is amazing. Probably two of the greatest examples in the world as to how not to manage and run sports teams.

Stay off twitter, hopped on earlier and xg made an appearance.

Poor first half in 1230 match, second was decent in fairness....and another clean thread which is always good to see

Again you'd swear Liverpool were lining out with the likes of Grbic, Holgate, Woodrow, Townsend, Aina and Sangare as 1st choice players when this hilarious underdog card comes out.

They are simultaneously underdogs while also having some of the greatest players ever in the team. Amazing.

You'd swear united was full of academy players rather than lads they spunked 100s of millions on just to be in a battle for 6th

Klopp can't be at Liverpool for 9 years considering he joined in October 2015 and will leave June 2024

That was his mistake - no foul had taken place, a mistake by the keeper to throw the ball out is what happened, spotted by the ref who Blew the whistle stopping Gakpo from scoring. A big mistake in fairness. He then went in to try to cover up his mistake by bringing on the physio for a keeper who didn't need it. A complete mistake by the ref which would have been shown up had Gakpo scored.
