A thread in AH looked like it had 120 new posts, but there was only 1 new post.

When I opened the thread it brought me to a post from days ago. Very slow to load pages too.

  • Moderators, Social & Fun Moderators Posts: 4,609 Mod ✭✭✭✭TherapyBoy

Yeah I have this too - on iPhone using Safari. I click any link on the site, the page loads then jumps up & down a number of times randomly before landing somewhere.

Same here - on a few of my bookmarked threads not all.

I've reported this a number of times over the last few months

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 31,325 ✭✭✭✭HeidiHeidi

The spammer thread showed 9 new posts, I opened it and the first post showing was from 2 days ago (17th) and was about 9 posts from the last one - but as I read down through them, I see that the third from last (posted yesterday, 18th) was by me!

The intervening posts I had not seen before - why or how did they only appear 2 days after their posting date??

And while typing this, the page scrolled up on me. Again.

Morning all! The schedule is still showing that the php update is going ahead Wednesday next. This disruption was likely some other changes or updates made, prompting the bit of downtime. There was no incident report sent here anyways.

We will take whatever improvements in performance come our way.

    Happy Friday all!

Earliest unread post brings me pages back - e.g., in one thread I was brought back to page 263 (May '23) i/o page 279 (yesterday).

Sorry @Boards.ie: Mike, not your fault but you do have to wonder sometimes who is the client in this relationship with Vanilla?

Are links in signature to another boards thread not allowed?

Saw this notice on this thread

Please note that it is not permitted to have referral links posted in
your signature. Keep these links contained in the appropriate forum.
    Thank you.

    https://www.boards.ie/discussion/2055940817/signature-rules

Is that a personalized message to the user? Plus link to rules is broken?

Opened a private window and the message was still there.

So just a bug on that particular thread? Was able to close the notice.

    @Boards.ie: Mike

Edited my signature to remove bullet points so it is on one line.

My signature had #latest at the end maybe triggering the referral warning.

Maybe put a link to the rules in Signature Settings window?

Referral links are links to a product or service that are linked back to the user that shared the link. It could be, for example, a link to sign up for a service that offers a financial reward to that user for attracting more signups. So that rule wouldn’t affect links to other Boards threads.

    That's what I thought too.

So just a bug on that thread.

    Hey guys,

This notice is posted across the motoring forum. It is not a bug or an accident. There was a lot of issues there with signature rules breaches and referral link spam.

Your suggestion to link the signature rule to the signature settings window is noted.

    Thanks,

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 46,874 ✭✭✭✭muffler

Signatures shouldn't be allowed at all imo.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 8,389 ✭✭✭corkie

You do know that you can turn them off and never see them again?

Just a reminder and there shouldn't be a need to post bugs etc?

Vanilla are planning an update to the site on April 24th (Wednesday). It is a major PHP8 update which is expected to boost performance across the site. The site will be down from 7pm and it is expected to take about an hour to complete. We appreciate your patience during the update.
    Thanks all.

    It also collides with https://www.euronews.com/next/2024/04/19/meta-tiktok-x-invited-to-stress-test-dsa-election-guidelines

So other social media platforms might be behaving weirdly as well?

I am still getting a notification alert but nothing new is there @Boards.ie: Mike

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 8,246 ✭✭✭The Continental Op

Mines improved. Was up to 11 notifications that when there was nothing new then a few days back it went down to just the one notification thats always there. It goes when I "Mark All Read" but as soon as I refresh the home page or any page I'm on that one notification (of nothing is back again).

Wake me up when it's all over.

I get sent back years (in one case, to posts from 2021) with some unread posts. It's mostly in private fora.

    Hey Guys,

I know this is so frustrating. I am also constantly having to "mark all read" and refresh the page with lingering notifications. I bump this ticket every month or so with Vanilla. It is a know issue across their forums. It still has not gone through their developments QA. I keep an eye on upcoming release notes but so far, nothing.

    Thanks for highlighting.

Images are all being stretched …….

I mean there's stretch and there's go go gadget arm. Actually incredible how elongated they are.

Page jump and jumbled initial type, due to some late load issue things, still very much present. Maybe time difference could be the thing. Night lads hope we're all about when boards wakes up

    Was the update cancelled?

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 31,325 ✭✭✭✭HeidiHeidi

Well something has broken the displaying of images! They're distorted all over the shop.

You can't get to the first page of some threads since the update. It brings up the "Something has gone wrong." error with the large emoji background. Page 2 onwards seem to be accessible.

Page one of this thread for example.

I've noticed that the avatar for the OP of a bunch of threads doesn't show, but it will show in all subsequent posts by all posters, including the OP themselves…

Rich Text Editor. To edit a paragraph's style, hit tab to get to the paragraph menu. From there you will be able to pick one style. Nothing defaults to paragraph. An inline formatting menu will show up when you select text. Hit tab to get into that menu. Some elements, such as rich link embeds, images, loading indicators, and error messages may get inserted into the editor. You may navigate to these using the arrow keys inside of the editor and delete them with the delete or backspace key.
