I appreciate that and this was my first experience of dealing with Tesla.

Overall, I found that the transaction was more about Tesla and very little about me.

Even the pick-up on Friday was strange. I walked into a portacabin in an industrial lot and was given a cardboard wallet by a (polite) chap, containing two "credit card" keys, who told me to find my car, check it out and, if I'm happy, drive off.

    Which I did.

This is my first EV and I'm enjoying the car so far.

But I certainly can't say that Tesla value me as a customer and, perhaps, that's their way. I'm not a snowflake by any means, I just found the experience a bit strange!

Nadia and journalists will get publicity/a story out of this if they're on the ball

"Tesla slashes prices heaping further depreciation misery onto existing owners!"

Yes it’s a different way of doing things alright. There’s no glass show rooms and fruit bowels that you end up paying for in the price and service costs and days spent waiting around in the dealers to sort minor issues (hopefully you have none!).

They way I explain it, is the buying process is the worse part. Just like buying a Samsung. You buy it online and then just collect. Using it should be the enjoyable part.

    Safe driving by the way.

It was my first new car, and first ev too.

I enjoyed the process of buying mine, I ordered and paid for it from my couch on my phone. No shite talk at the dealer from smarmy salesmen who know less about the product than I do, no cheesy awkward photos with the car or drawn out handover when all I want to do is get on the road.

Hi, here's the cards, five minutes looking over it, five minutes changing settings and out the gap. Perfect 👌

I paid €50k for a base Model 3 in 2019. It's a kick in the balls but you're getting a far far better car than I had for considerably less, not even taking inflation into account there either.

New price has me interested but I would need to trade in my ICE..Is it worth getting a trade in price from Tesla or where is the best place to trade in a ICE car, maybe zucar? 222 car

    Anyone experience of this?

Try lots of places, could also look at private sale but that doesn't suit everyone.

Good luck with it. If you need a referral code for Tesla, dm me.

    Cheers

Try them as a base. Some cars get better offers than others. It just depends on the small dealers bidding on them.

Advertise privately is always the best option. Always has been but some are not into that.

You can still return it and place an order for a new one if you have a runaround.

I think that you have 14 days to cancel a contract but not 14 days after you have paid for and collected the vehicle?

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 16,267 ✭✭✭✭AndyBoBandy

Tesla used to have a 7day/500km cooling off period whereby you could return the car for a full refund, but it's long gone by now….

Surely by ordering online your purchase is under the distance selling directive?

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 640 ✭✭✭antfin

It is and there's a 14 day period from collectio during which the car can be returned, with some limitations.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 1,729 ✭✭✭PGE1970

I'm looking into this and you may be right.

    €3k is €3k.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 640 ✭✭✭antfin

When I collected last year the right to return the car within 14 days and the limitations were specified in the region specific provisions of the order agreement.

Personally, if I had just spent €41k or whatever on a new Highland, I would enjoy the car and stay off boards, facebook etc for a few months..🙂

So as not to see any more price decreases.

There is a way to get out of the purchase as others have said. A well know ev car seller talked be thorough it few months back mentioned he has cancelled orders for others and managed to get the 250 back

If (big if) I got something back, it's worth a go.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 4,580 ✭✭✭eagerv

Fair enough, it's just I would be happy with what I have. After you take away the hassle, mileage plus other expenses it may not be as full a refund as expected.

I paid about €49k for my 2022 Model 3 RWD MIC when new. I don't regret it for one moment, the best car I have ever had. I have driven the new Highland and imo is better in almost all respects. And mine is a good 'un..

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 1,729 ✭✭✭PGE1970

I absolutely get what you are saying.

If they met me half way, it would pay for a good night out 😉

If you don't ask, you don't get!!

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 640 ✭✭✭antfin

They absolutely will not negotiate. It will have to be a full return of the car within 14 days in line with the T&Cs and they will refund the amount less the allowable deductions. The downside is the length of time that I might take to get the refund and then needing to re-order again. Its worth bearing in mind also that a good portion of the reduction is the VRT rebate so any extras such as paint or wheels etc results in a much lower price difference.

    3 grand is 3 grand. That's a holiday.

These are the types of conversations Tesla's idiocy in throwing price drops willy nilly will raise.

Prices change, Tesla and others, live with it. I would really hate if I had bought an ID.buzz for 70k and then saw the same van going for 43k some months later.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 34,436 ✭✭✭✭listermint

Yada yada, poster has the option to hand it back. 3K is not to be sniffed at its alot of money to some. People can be flippant about what a couple of K is to people.

3k is probably the average price of the cars I bought pre EVs so fair play.

The €250 refund is standard practice. I’ve got mine back on a few occasions that I didn’t proceed with the order.

    It’s in their T&C’s that it’s refundable.
