Not to go too far off topic, but keep going with The Wire if you get a chance too. It's jarring at the start of Season 2 with the new setting and characters, and that happens in each season with a new aspect of the city added in, but it's so worth it. The first half of each season can feel slow because of it, but it always comes together in an incredible way. If you do get past Season 2 (which is actually my favourite but that's a minority opinion), the show starts to deal more with politics and media. Succession also incredibly worth watching.

Succession in many ways also clearly mirrors a lot of the Fox and Trump stuff.

The other "not good thing" for Rapey McRapist about Corcoran is that he is a man that keeps copious contemporaneous notes of all his interactions.

So , he has massive amounts of details notes, provably taken on the dates stated of every single one of his interactions with Trump and team.

Those notes could do very serious damage.

I think the below was posted before. Apologies if so. But still, he needs to be repeated! My favourite is " he is a Shakespeare of sh!t"

Republicans against Trump@RpsAgainstTrumpSubscribeNate White, a British writer penned the best description of Donald Trump I’ve ever read:

“Why do some British people not like Donald Trump?”

A few things spring to mind. Trump lacks certain qualities which the British traditionally esteem. For instance, he has no class, no charm, no coolness, no credibility, no compassion, no wit, no warmth, no wisdom, no subtlety, no sensitivity, no self-awareness, no humility, no honour and no grace – all qualities, funnily enough, with which his predecessor Mr. Obama was generously blessed. So for us, the stark contrast does rather throw Trump’s limitations into embarrassingly sharp relief.

Plus, we like a laugh. And while Trump may be laughable, he has never once said anything wry, witty or even faintly amusing – not once, ever. I don’t say that rhetorically, I mean it quite literally: not once, not ever. And that fact is particularly disturbing to the British sensibility – for us, to lack humour is almost inhuman. But with Trump, it’s a fact. He doesn’t even seem to understand what a joke is – his idea of a joke is a crass comment, an illiterate insult, a casual act of cruelty.

Trump is a troll. And like all trolls, he is never funny and he never laughs; he only crows or jeers. And scarily, he doesn’t just talk in crude, witless insults – he actually thinks in them. His mind is a simple bot-like algorithm of petty prejudices and knee-jerk nastiness.

There is never any under-layer of irony, complexity, nuance or depth. It’s all surface. Some Americans might see this as refreshingly upfront. Well, we don’t. We see it as having no inner world, no soul. And in Britain we traditionally side with David, not Goliath. All our heroes are plucky underdogs: Robin Hood, Dick Whittington, Oliver Twist. Trump is neither plucky, nor an underdog. He is the exact opposite of that. He’s not even a spoiled rich-boy, or a greedy fat-cat. He’s more a fat white slug. A Jabba the Hutt of privilege.

And worse, he is that most unforgivable of all things to the British: a bully. That is, except when he is among bullies; then he suddenly transforms into a snivelling sidekick instead. There are unspoken rules to this stuff – the Queensberry rules of basic decency – and he breaks them all. He punches downwards – which a gentleman should, would, could never do – and every blow he aims is below the belt. He particularly likes to kick the vulnerable or voiceless – and he kicks them when they are down.

So the fact that a significant minority – perhaps a third – of Americans look at what he does, listen to what he says, and then think ‘Yeah, he seems like my kind of guy’ is a matter of some confusion and no little distress to British people, given that:

    • Americans are supposed to be nicer than us, and mostly are.

    • You don’t need a particularly keen eye for detail to spot a few flaws in the man.

This last point is what especially confuses and dismays British people, and many other people too; his faults seem pretty bloody hard to miss. After all, it’s impossible to read a single tweet, or hear him speak a sentence or two, without staring deep into the abyss. He turns being artless into an art form; he is a Picasso of pettiness; a Shakespeare of ****. His faults are fractal: even his flaws have flaws, and so on ad infinitum.

God knows there have always been stupid people in the world, and plenty of nasty people too. But rarely has stupidity been so nasty, or nastiness so stupid. He makes Nixon look trustworthy and George W look smart. In fact, if Frankenstein decided to make a monster assembled entirely from human flaws – he would make a Trump.

And a remorseful Doctor Frankenstein would clutch out big clumpfuls of hair and scream in anguish: ‘My God… what… have… I… created?' If being a twat was a TV show, Trump would be the boxed set.”

You’d wonder if the looming spectre of next week might be pushing him a little over the edge. Assuming the courts don’t give yet another baffling & undeserved break (or he somehow scores an actual bond in the next few hours), next week will see him starting a criminal trial that could see him convicted and he might also lose all his assets. All starting off in the same week.

So this weekend must be tonnes of fun for Donnie. Would love to be a fly on the wall at Mar-a-lago today to hear his desperate ranting to his “Best People”; demanding that they somehow get him off the hook.

The bond is for the James case, because it's been decided. The criminal trial is the NYC DA Bragg case, which is about hush money to shut up Stormy Daniels, so getting a bond has nothing to do with it, for now. He could have to pay fines if found guilty in the Daniels case, up to the Judge and the sentencing guidelines.

Michael Cohen, remember him?, will be the star witness in the Bragg case. Cohen thinks nothing happens for a month as the defense will wrangle over the jury.

Oh yes, I know. My meaning is that the Stormy stuff is due to at least start the process of trial tomorrow, and at the same time the 10-day deadline for the bond on the SDNY Fraud appeal is expiring. Both seem to be landing at roughly the same time.

Season 2 was my favourite too. Loved the Sobotka and the Greek storyline.

Not a good idea to be a fly on the wall, as you'd get spattered with ketchup😁

A presidential debate with Biden would be very interesting…..Biden showed at the state of the union that he can still do it, Trump I’m not so sure, he could implode

Still think Trump related movies almost need a 20 year gap to work. It's still very much so ongoing drama and I don't want to go to a cinema to see more Trump.

Also yes, Overheal needs to watch both Succession and The Wire!

Trumps too chicken. No chance of a single debate this cycle.

(I personally think refusing to debate your opponent should mean you are taken off the ballot for not doing the job, but that's an argument for another day)

Great description of Trump, he does indeed seem to lack a sense of humour, just sneers at people he doesn’t like. Don jr is the very same.

psychologists call it “sundown” part of cognitive deterioration where the elderly lose function as they get more tired in the evening. Sleepy Don Trump

If you want to know how a debate would go, all you have to do is look at the 2020 debates and imagine Trump being twice as nasty and crass.

As for Trump imploding, it depends on in who's eyes you're talking about. Trump's base would love to see him accusing Joe Biden of wearing a nappy and not knowing what month it is. Undecideds maybe not so much, but then again, these people are still undecided where one of the candidates is looking down the barrel of several court trials and has already been found civilly liable for sexual assault, massive financial fraud and defamation, as well as inciting a riot to overturn a democratic election. How undecided are these people, really?

I think in a debate there is a chance he might get very confused, doesn’t know who he is debating, do word salad or drop an n bomb.

    Very well said.

Trump is a sick bully , who has nothing to offer except chaos and division.

He has no place being anywhere near the Oval office.

Trump not going to court tomorrow quietly anyway but kicking and screaming and self martyring like a big baby

Bizarre that c.50% of Americans still want him to be the next president.

Do they? The country has over 330 million people and 60 million voted for him in 2016, not even a fifth of the total population.

In fairness though, 74m voted for him in 2020. The only fair metric to use is the 2020 popular vote, because even though that's 74m out of 330m, Biden also only got 81m. Not everyone votes or can vote, but can't really say none of those would have voted for Trump either.

Trump got just under 47% of the popular vote, so it's reasonable to say in 2020 at least, 47% of the country supported him.
