Michael Rockefeller's disappearance on trying to make first contact with an isolated tribe in Africa. Captured and eaten by cannibals? Eaten by crocodiles? A case of Stockholm Syndrome?

The disappearance of some of the first English settlers at the Roanoke colony in Virginia.

The identity of the person with the English accent observed by surviving witnesses at several of the worst atrocities in NI during the troubles, most notably the Miami Showband Massacre and the Kingsmill Massacre.

According to Miami Showband survivor, Stephen Travers, the person who appeared to be in charge at the scene of the incident had a "posh, clipped English accent". The band were fired upon after UVF terrorists Harris Boyle and Wesley Somerville blew themselves up when the bomb they were planting on the band's bus prematurely exploded. All of the shooters have been identified apart from the person with the English accent. Many believe it to be Robert Nairac, who was linked to one of the guns used in the shootings. The botched plan was for the bomb to be primed to explode upon crossing the border into the Republic to make it look like the band were transporting weapons for the IRA, and to put pressure on the English and Irish governments to seal the border and make it harder for the IRA to get in and out.

Similarly, the sole survivor of the Kingsmill incident has said the person directing the IRA shooters had an English accent. Likewise, this person has never been identified.

Incidents like these, and several others in the same timeframe, add credence to the belief that rogue forces within British intelligence wanted Loyalist and Republican terrorists to keep wiping out civilians on both sides in order to foment all out civil war.

Remember, whistleblower John Weir has said that British intelligence tried to persuade loyalists to blow up a Catholic primary school in Belleeks shortly after Kingsmill but the UVF drew the line at this and declined.

If all of this sounds far-fetched, remember that British intelligence's complicity in the bombings in Dublin and Monaghan that killed over 30 and maimed hundreds of others has been proven.

I'm after watching a documentary on MH370. More interesting than the pilot suicide I thought was hypothesized.

I lived in Greencastle and although I wouldn't know a lot about it, I did meet a lot of the families of the fishermen. I actually stayed with the family of one for a few months. It really devastated that place. It was a small community and everyone knew someone on it.

I think they did as well. Interesting that the police either attempted a cover up, or were just incompetent in not telling people that they had found a raft.

Many years ago, I presumed they had drowned, but in light of recent evidence, I'm convinced they survived. They were better prepared than John Paul Scott who managed to swim to the mainland, but was caught due to exhaustion.

The three who supposedly escaped would be between 94 and 98 years old today and are unlikely to be alive. I'd love it if we could get definitive closure on it through DNA, but that seems unlikely now.

While I would nearly hesitate to say unsolved, as it seemed the NYPD cracked it just before the perp killed himself, this is certainly one of the most bizarre and to my knowledge strangely forgotten cases in Irish history.

A transatlantic probable double murder stretching from the streets of NYC to the cliffs of the west of Ireland. Almost fiction like.

One link above and one below are a fascinating resource, proving that we had far far more genuinely horrific crimes (child murder, stranger/ serial killer in training type murders) in our past than we do in our supposedly more violent present (Ireland being at it's most peaceful, safest, low crime period in decades, with the hype train blown by our constant exposure to media- whereas some of the hoorendous murders on this list may well have been forgotten if they happened to coincide with a huge news story of the day such as a major IRA attack, John Lennon dying, Challenger, you name it)

Just a plain old plane crash i think. Debris has washed up.

It wasn’t a plain old plane crash though . The last time a plane turned off their transponder and deviated from its flight plan was 911 . Not an ordinary plane accident

The way he used a wasp or bee in the house as a metaphor for what Hamas did on 7th October was utterly disgusting (and I'm a critic of Israel, but also of Hamas - some seem to think it can only be one or the other).

my guess is that MH370 will never be solved

Over ten years since the crash. Nobody apparently knows where it crashed. Nobody knows apparently how / why it crashed.

The only debris recovered is that which washed up. Tens of thousands of kilometres underwater have been scoured with some of the most modern technology and sea craft.

Seriously experienced captain, who was an instructor and examiner, co pilot was ok, pretty inexperienced.

All post crash investigations point to the fact both cockpit crew members had stable and happy outside personal lives as well as work situations….Neither had links to terrorists or nefarious political organisations… . but the transponder was switched off, so was ACARS, and the plane was flying with it off as it was identified on military radar, deviating course significantly for hours, changing altitude…

We don’t know who did it, we don’t know why, don’t know where or how…. Really odd.

There was a question as to why nobody on the plane tried to contact people on the ground with their phones. One theory was because of hypoxia. But the crew, who if they were behind it, they don’t apparently have any means from the cockpit to inhibit the passenger oxygen masks… those just drop automatically…..

The fact that the transponder was switched off along with acars suggests whatever went wrong was down to personal involvement by one or both of the flight crew members….

    MH370

One or two new locations suggested recently, closer to Australia than expected?

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 27,541 ✭✭✭✭Strumms

Yep, I read that, it will require some amount of will and millions more dollars to get to go looking. From one article…

Separately, Vincent Lyne, a former researcher from the Institute for Marine and Antarctic Studies (IMAS) at the University of Tasmania, who's published numerous papers on the topic has also been conducting his own independent investigation and is certain that the location of the plane is not a mystery.

"The precise location of MH370 is in a very deep 6000-metre hole about 1500 kilometres west of Perth and along the longitude of Penang," says Lyne. "That location reconciles all evidence."

Ok, 6000 meters, that’s just a touch under 20,000 feet…. Bit of a coincidence that of everywhere it would crash, a massive underwater 20,000 foot deep black hole would swallow it up. But something must explain it’s disappearance….

    MH370

Can't see beyond the fact that a member of the crew killed the other one and deliberately cut all systems. Made it as untraceable as possible. Then flew the plane to the spot in the ocean where it would be the most difficult to find it, so the 6,000m deep trench makes sense.

Plane did as controlled a landing as possible in the ocean, thus little to no debris. Possibly used live shipping maps to ensure it was being dropped nowhere near a large ship.

Plane had little to no fuel when it landed (could have jettisoned some) so no real explosion. Possibly opened some doors just before landing to ensure it sank there and then when flooded.

Doubt it will ever be found and ten years on can't see any reasonable evidence being found to corroborate or dismiss any theories.

    @KevRossi

" Possibly opened some doors just before landing to ensure it sank there and then when flooded. "

I'm having difficulty with this, Kev. Running around the plane, opening doors. Saying, " Nobody Panic! ", as everyone sits and watches?

Is Auto Pilot capable of managing soft landings, on water, while the pilot is elsewhere, opening doors?

Just a knee jerk, from me. Never did grip me, this one. Probably simple lack of media input. I just never really Heard about it! 😐️
