I think their point more that it id impossible to subducate a people with violence indefinitely. 30k dead now and I don't believe Israel had any clue how many hamas fighters are left. They definitely don't seem to have a clue where the hostages are

That only matters if you take their "excuses" at their face value.

If you consider the reality that it is simply more about sating bloodlust and killing as many as possible (ideally for them all) Palestinian men, women and children. This stuff about them wanting to free hostages or kill Hamas has as much basis in reality as the debunked official State media publications of photos of markets full of fresh food in locations which had already been obliterated.

That man looks like he is on the verge of a nervous breakdown. Completely unstable and incoherent. Just the sort of person required to vote on arms to Israel

Israel don't even have a clue how many Hamas fighters they have actually killed.

When it emerged that 2/3 of all deaths had been women and children and was put to some government spokesman, he came back with an off the curr remark that 1 in 3 deaths are Hamas. Saying in the current situation it's was a good ratio. I think they are just using the Hamas figures to guestimate. Basically any adult male = Hamas.

This thread is not about Ireland though or our defence capabilities or lack of.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 21,337 ✭✭✭✭Donald Trump

What sort of nonsense is this? Any Irish plane flying near Gaza would be quickly shot out of the sky by Israel. No point pretending otherwise. Or even the US. One of the first reactions back last October was for US naval carrier and other ships to position themselves in the Red Sea

Walter Mitty stuff to be complaining about Irish military might or lack thereof.........calling for conscription or investment in fighter jets so that we could defeat the Russians etc.

I already posted a link of an Irish boat being sabotaged.

Do you want other links of high profile Irish people being warned by Israel to not attempt to travel on flotillas trying to deliver humanitarian aid? Some links of Irish official government aid being destroyed and bulldozed in the West Bank? Some links about summary executions committed by the IDF against other nationals trying to deliver aid on a flotilla previously? Irish citizens on their way to deliver aid being kidnapped by the IDF in international waters?

It just comes across as another whinge or moan tbh. Completely irrelevant. Blaming the Irish State for not having enough military cargo planes and fighter jets to not be bullied by Israel so that it can airdrop aid rather than blaming the ones actively committing the genocide in the first place. Any plane flying there to deliver aid is only getting to do that in coordination with the US. The US eventually had to break and do some token act. So it is allowing some of its allies to come in on its coattails.

What will be the next Walter Mitty complaint - that Iran haven't even supplied any relief aid by airdrop from its military planes?

Also the men were shirtless, clearly unarmed and waving a white flag. Looks more a case of indiscriminate killing.

The Irish people are well know for their charity and Aid work. The UN are having trouble.

no, it's the ireland that is part of a club and abides by (well most anyway) of the rules it signed up to as a member of that club.

long may ireland be a part of the EU, way better then being under british rule that's for sure.

I'm very highly educated. I know words, i have the best words, nobody has better words then me.

Biden has such odd behaviour in this campaign, providing military aid to Israel to continue the bombing indefinitely and humanitarian aid to Gaza at the same time. I don't think they even each other out. It would very dangerous to provide aid into a war zone

Bother doing what ? Giving military aid to Israel or giving humanitarian aid to Gaza? If he did less of the former he would have to do less of the latter.

Instead of applauding Biden for trying to help he instead gets criticised by the usual “but but America is evil” nonsense from the left

Some might have the opinion that dropping 30k meals might not quite counterbalance or compensate for the vast deluge of US supplied military missiles and other hardware that have flattened their homes and killed and maimed many of them.

    You can try.

But I think you are overestimating your own contribution to the Zionist cause with your fervent and blind support of their genocide on here. It's likely that the chances they get away with it or not will not be affected by your contributions on boards.ie

A lot of people crapping on Israel and claiming that their actions are meaningful in some respect. My problem with this from the beginning has been that I don't think anything Israel does or can do will have any impact on the broader picture.

And that is very simple: lots of people/groups in the region (and beyond) do not want a Jewish state to exist at all in any form whatsoever. And they have the means to continue attacking Israel in perpetuity. It does not matter what Israel's borders are or how it treats the Palestinians. Israel will always be under attack by its mortal enemies. Iran and its proxies Hamas, Hezbollah etc don't want peace with Israel, they want the Jews dead. There is nothing Israel can do to change their minds.

Should this reality not be considered when critiquing Israeli strategy and actions?

Well it was the Zionists who chose to create a state in the middle of hostile territory against the wishes of the people who lived there. The Zionists were well aware of the challenges they would face and that it would gurantee bloodshed. As early as 1920, the King-Crane report commissioned by the US, rejected the idea of a Jewish state in Palestine knowing full well that the local population were against the idea and that it would be a disaster. If it were not for the British, Jewish immigration would not have continued unchecked and even by 1947, the British realised it would be a disaster and abstained in the UN vote on partition, which says it all really. Israel may always be crying foul, but they always knew the consequences of creating a new state where they did. All the warnings were there as far back as 1920, sadly western forces did not take heed and put their own interests and those of the Zionists ahead of the local population.

Ah God help Billy No Mates. Maybe if they stopped grabbing land, arresting children and treating people better they might not be regarded so badly by their neighbours. Stop being a pariah country and begin peace talks with their neighbours.

This doesn't seem realistic. I don't think Iran et. al. cares how nice Israel is to the Palestinians. They (among others) just want it gone. Full stop.

If we accept this, should Israel withdraw to historical borders (such as the '67 or even '47 borders, when they were attacked previously) or militarise to fortify their tiny patch of land as best they can?

Not saying or arguing it is a correct or a moral policy, but basically he is in an bad electoral bind where if he finally and belatedly tries to pressure Israel's govt. to change course he will lose votes, but if he keeps on as is + confines US displays of displeasure with Israel and disgust at what they have done to verbal criticism he will lose votes too.

On the danger, I do see some dangers for Israel if the US is stepping in now and trying to deliver the aid directly + has lots of its own assets and people buzzing around Gaza.

Do they carry on their usual policy where everyone doing that up to now is sort of "Hamas" or "Hamas Adjacent" and every so often the IDF might either block them from delivering, or even get trigger happy and light up a suspect aid truck (or even ship or plane...!) through carelessness or just to send a message?

I can't see that going well, but it is going to hard for their military to change its spots and filter down a "leave the American's well alone" message to those lower down the totem pole who have their blood up and are used to lax(er) rules.

It's is not correct or moral. Biden has been a staunch ally of Israel for years so hard to know whether he would have acted differently outside of an election year.

I presume they will only deliver aid during any ceasefires that are agreed. Hard to know of bidens ceasefire plans will bear fruit.

Israel are heavily militarised already and backed up by the most powerful army in the world. Israel is not going anywhere. The Iranians know this only too well.

The Iranian are limited to using proxies. These proxies might have less support to draw on if Israel was nicer to the Palestinians.
