Ward has a good physical game. Abrasive and always seems to be around the 🎬. I like this lad.

Would McKillop be big enough to play 2nd row at senior level or is he more of a hybrid row/back row?

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 828 ✭✭✭Hey boy

and lacking consistency with the academy players doing the hokey cokey all season between injuries, irish academy for 4 matches, u20 and some not being allowed to play…

Out and out 6 imo but could do a job at 2nd row. He’s about 6ft 5

Started three games in 2022. One in the 6N (home to Wales) and two at the summer tournament in Italy which was a replacement for the U-20 World Cup. He also made two sub appearances in the 6N (away to England, home to Scotland).

He was largely behind Rory McGuire in the THP pecking order during the 6N and shared duties with Darragh McSweeney and Kieran Ryan in the summer tournament in 2022.

He started the first game of the 6n and got injured. Came back in the bench as McGuire had performed well

Interesting. He looks a better prospect than Maguire now.

Been very impressed by him for ulster.

Kinda shows 20's is often so subjective

Any news on Glesson's availability for the game against Wales this weekend

Brigg in after getting a couple of games for Queens. Give Mckillop a couple of games and he’ll be in for Corrigan imo

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 1,460 ✭✭✭Locke_Lamora

Corrigan has been very effective off the bench though, so it might be tough to drop him even if he has another year. I would love to see another Ulster player but didn't McKillop go off early in the second half at the weekend? Was that an injury?

Think it was first game back don’t want to rush him sort of a substitution. He seemed quite confused (and rightly so) to be subbed off

Not surprised to see so many changes in the pack after the forward performance against Italy. I'd go so far as to say that those who were retained can count themselves lucky that there weren't suitable candidates ready to step into their spots too and make more changes. I thought Hopes was very good against France but awful against Italy. Good to see a bit of a message being sent out to the team though.

No changes in the backline but I think the halfbacks can breathe a sigh of relief and Hugh Gavin is fortunate that he has shown his quality already as he'd be dropped from the 23 if his Italian performance was the sole metric for selection this week.

I'm a little disappointed for Spicer. At 18 years old though I suppose he needs a little more time.

Dont see why you should be disappointed. The other 2nd rows, o connell and hopes are in their year and also have an extra year out of school playing adult rugby which is huge help especially for 2nd rows. All thr players are 18/19 at this stage so need lot more time anyway

Disappointed for Spicer. He wasn't bad v Italy. Hopes had a mare.

This is a weird year. The highest upside leinster players are more raw than they would usually be (also younger). The team overall is a bit more raw. But i feel like there a good few guys with star potential.

Spicer was a total non-entity. He didn't have the error count of Hopes but he contributed next to nothing and Hopes completely outplayed him in France.

    Vs Italy:

    Spicer - 50 minutes, 3 carries and 2 tackles (2 missed also)

    Hopes - 80 minutes, 9 carries and 12 tackles (2 missed also)

Yeah, Hopes mixed the good with the bad against Italy, and had a couple of clear fluffs, but "mare" is a bit strong, and he didn't embarrass himself in defence like quite a few others. Spicer is just potential at the moment, on account of his size. Doesn't even look in particularity good nick fitness-wise.

Just read on the union site, per Dundon, that the management is looking to build depth. That's certainly the way to go, there's plenty of talented players. I'd imagine that Berman would be involved if he was healthy.

Every year at 20s thats one of the principal aims. Its a frade all about developing players for the provinces and national senior sides

    Try sean edogbo. 10-3

Good start. Pack well on top so far

Less so in recent years with Murphy, his rotation has been questionable up until this year. Getting results, but squad members losing out as a result.

On the match: Christ Edogbo is a strong boy

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 946 ✭✭✭johnh6767

Murphy playing better, Edogbo fantastic, slippy ball for sure tricky for Coffee

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 3,122 ✭✭✭Shehal

Not bad so far but we can't ge any coherent attack going and needlessly putting ourself under pressure due to the fact we cant see to go more than 2-3 phases without a handling error.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 14,163 ✭✭✭✭thebaz

half backs not great again, team not really delivering

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 3,122 ✭✭✭Shehal

I know the rain isnt helping but there is a clear lack of concentration from Ireland tonight just like against Italy. They need to cop themselves on here and get their heads in the game otherwise they could risk being drawn into an arm wrestle.

Bit meh. It wouldn't take much for this Welsh team to get their takes up either, I'd say.
