A gobshite too thick to realise or care that just because that can be done in the US, it can't be done everywhere.

HR probably paid RTE level Exit Packages to make sure they did not end up in the WRC.

Immunity from any case being taken against them.

So you can be dismissed on a number of ground. The employer must then give notice of the dismissal or they must pay the employee depending on the lenght of time they spend in the company. The employee may bring a case to court on Unfair dismissal.

Bakhurst would have spoken to Coveney with Coveney's lawyers present.

    13 weeks no payment

13 weeks to 2 years one week

two years to 5 years two weeks

five years to 10 years four weeks

    10 years to 15 years 6 weeks

    15 years + 8 weeks

6 weeks pay would amount to 23k, but he could have been dismissed for gross misconduct, in reality none should have been let go until RTÉ were satisfied that they had committed gross misconducted so that no payments could be made.

But likely that the lawyers suggested an unfair dismissal case.

    ______

In the end they were just greedy, they all knew one another and knew what to expect more money for no return, it was a secure cash flow, but in fairness they looked for what they wanted and fair dues to them for that, and wouldn't you be doing the same!

Just one more thing .... when did they return that car

One of the biggest mistakes at the start of this debacle was the board of RTE and the Minister accepting Dee Forbes resignation, that should never have happened until this mess was cleared up. By accepting her resignation they allowed her to waltz off in the sunset breaking her hole laughing at the mess she left behind. The same of the rest of the incompetents that were running the place with Forbes, none should have been allowed to resign

Martin is just saying that to save her own ass. She has been a complete disaster and these people have been running rings around her from the start. Now either she doesn't care or she is totally out of her depth and hasn't a clue what do to.

I'd seriously question the competence of Catherine Martin, T.D. - Minister for Tourism, Culture, Arts, Gaeltacht, Sports and Media.

Note the order of her responsibilities - all we hear from her is commentary on Culture, Arts, Gaeltacht, Sports and Media. And even then she spends a lot of time on media, the end of her brief.

Like Roderic I think she's out of her depth, has far too many briefs to handle and is utterly compromised on her main area of responsibility which is tourism. Compromised since her party buddy is shafting Irish tourism on a weekly basis.

But we hear Catherine on regular about the media, sports events, artist supports. Despite her frequent enough interviews in recent months re RTE and funding for RTE, I haven't once heard a reporter ask her while she's there.... oh, what is happening to Irish tourism in xyx county or abc town. Not once.

Could I take issue with the description ‘rest of the incompetents’ on those running the place with Forbes.

A lot of folk would say they were far from incompetent, in fact they managed to run a publicly funded company as their own personal fifedom for a long long time, aggrandizing both themselves and a considerable coterie of others with eye watering wedges, while batting off all attempts to rein them in or get real ‘figures’ from them.

It was only pure chance the walls were breached after many many years of untrammeled corn holing the taxpayer.

    Becoming almost untouchable.

That takes a fair bit of competence?

Catherine Martin completely useless. She is confusing editorial influence with making sure RTE isn't abusing their funding.

She seemed almost idiotic on the radio today.

I will accept that critique but does it take that much competence to do what they did when no one is watching?

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 4,019 ✭✭✭Kaisr Sose

Or they (the board) allowed her to go knowing her absence from PAC sessions would protect them all ?

I hope she can be compelled to get up early and attend. It's just far to convenient that she fell ill when the country needed to hear from her most.

PAC need to be careful as Angela Kerins took legal action against it for being asked some difficult questions about her role in Rehab debacle.

Kevin Backhurst, if reading, this is who Arthur Cox is 😀

I see Breda resigned from her 6 directorships on the same day, 25 July 2023. She knew what was coming down the line

Give them away during the next several LLS Toy Shows.

Give gift packs to viewers at home, and can just give 'one for everyone in the audience' for the next several toy shows.

Easy peasy to cover their costs.

Oh I don't that merch could be worth something considering the infamy of the show now. Some collectors could be looking for it. 😀 Or am I watching too much Pawn Stars?

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 8,417 ✭✭✭Floppybits

Well cynical does think that is the reason why she was allowed to resign to protect all their asses and as one of the TD's or Senators said at the PAC hearing the other day its very easy to blame everything on Forbes. You'd have to wonder did they get together and say Dee you resign and then pull a sickie and we will look after you when its all over.

2.6 million given in hand shake payments at RTE during the very sick Dee Forbes time as DG.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 854 ✭✭✭kazamo

Dee Forbes was leaving anyway before this story broke.

RTE had even decided on appointing Kevin Bakhurst after an interview process, about two months before this all started.

Asking for her resignation at the end of June 23 was a pointless act as she was going in July anyway.

I agree that more than Dee Forbes knew about this, but the committees keep referring to all their powers, time to start using them.

The cost of back funding pension schemes for the Bogus Self Employment could make the current figures in the public domain look like chicken feed.

Her contract was up and she was already out of there, using up holidays so the resignation was symbolic only.

Lookit, a question which always puzzles me is why governments from years back did not notice the outlandish wedges given to RTE people.

Those canny canines, the dogs in the street, knew that there was shenanigans going on, out of kilter wedges, side deals, nepotism on a grand scale, insiders growing fat on the hog, uncontrolled spending all from a publicly funded company via the taxpayers euro.

Very strange that nobody in Govt. seriously put up their hand and said stop?

I mean they put themselves forward at these committee meetings as 'defenders of the taxpayer'.

I would suggest that they as a body of folk especially those in ministerial jurisdiction of that area should keep a bit quiet and keep the head down.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 8,607 ✭✭✭jmcc

Think that she was suspended by the board and that RTE tried to keep that secret until it was forced to confirm.

The light today seems to be getting shined on the amount to be disclosed for the Coveney payment despite him handing in his resignation, could be box office.

Why should he have got any payment beyond in lieu of wages if told to leave before the notice date of finishing.

The gravy train at RTE has continued under Backhurst - millions of licence fee payers money is still seen as their own personal honey pot

Let's not forget that the board/RTE put it in the public domain that hotly tipped David McRedmond would not be getting the job..I thought it was apalling to publicly announce someone as being unsuccessful at interview like that. IMO, he was never going to get it having being a strong critic of the board while head of TV3. However, he must be delighted he avoided all this.
